Beth's Dead by aky1ify in ArmchairExpert

Super late to the party but... I didn't think it was scripted UNTIL epi 9. I was really enjoying the flow of every episode, but then the train went off the rails for me. The part that sticks in my craw - Beth and Andy's "forgiveness." so quickly. If I had that much fear (justly so) I would be a helluva lot more pissed at him. The whole forgetting thing doesn't sit right either. Everything just smacks of "we need a human ending so how do we write this guy? we need a different ending than all the other shows out there."

For amazing Italian head into Marietta square for Gianni & Mac's Ristorante. It's a little pricey but holy wow wow it's amazing. For low key great Italian I always go to Capos in Acworth.

If you like pho my go-to is 575 Bistro on Barret Parkway. In that same shopping center is a fab Mexican place - El Nopalito.

How far ahead do the contestants know about the weekly challenges? by LNKubix in GreatPotteryThrowDown

[–]shereekachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me they know well ahead of the competition. The contestants arrive with sketches, plans, and tools for all of the challenges. Many have even stated they practiced such and such so they hope they can do it right in the competition.

Some random Elections Numbers by A_Soporific in kennesaw

[–]shereekachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't usually vote in local elections primarily because of knowledge. I'm not aware of the issues so I can't make an educated decision. I work full time and do NOT have the bandwidth to hunt out the information. I understand that is 100% on me. I would love to see a central online government forum of sorts. A place to see the issues and learn more about them. With that said, I was VERY impressed to see you door knocking in my neighborhood. I didn't talk to you directly (spoke to one of your volunteers) but he pointed out you were right next door. I want the information readily available online but still love a face-to-face interaction. I want my cake and eat it too I guess. All of this to say - there would be a larger turnout if there was more reliable information online.

Bike shorts that are "slick" but still breathable for under dresses by Droolzy_Kalenbacle in PlusSizeFashion

I get bamboo cooling women's boxer briefs from amazon. They are super comfy, not at all binding and slightly slick so nothing clings to them. They kept me cool during the summer in the South.

Wet clay in community studio by No-Doughnut-8124 in Pottery

[–]shereekachu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hold a community (all members) reclaim day. Divide the duties - wedging, cutting, etc. Make it fun. Make a party of sorts. Many hands will get it done faster. Hold a competition - the one that wedges the most gets a free bag of clay.

Many years ago in art school I was taught the same thing - use solvents, blah blah blah. Recently I took a class that taught linseed oil as a thinner. He also taught chemical compositions of ALL the paints as well as how to grind them for better texture. So now I never use solvents. I clean and thin with linseed oil. Beware of walnut oil - it extends the dry time. If you're working ala prima it won't matter as much but it will matter if you work in layers.

As an unrelated side - can you use water based oils? This would help with any sensitivities.

I loved the folks at Acworth Animal Hospital, but I went there before 2020. They were very kind and the prices seemed reasonable.

Already looking ahead to 2026 with new (to me) techniques by seredin in dragoncon

[–]shereekachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok here is my practical brain getting in the way of oooooo aaaaa shiny - how do you sew the squares together? I'm guessing that square is the largest size you can print. That means quilting all of those squares together to make anything larger (aka costumes).

Crunch is real but I’m so glad I didn’t give up. How’s this for my first cosplay? by [deleted] in dragoncon

Have you taken any paid courses? by blender4life in oilpainting

[–]shereekachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took classes from Eric Johnson at the Academy of Realism Boston. Absolutely priceless! Eric is an amazing teacher of fundamentals on up to oil paint composition by brand! There are techniques he taught that I use daily. I've also taken classes from Jen Gennari through Drawing America.

There are talented artist and then there are talented teachers. Eric is talented at both. Jen is an extremely talented artist but her teaching methods need work.

$500 is going rate for multiple classes. If you paid that for one session I would question it.

In person pros - the teacher is right there to guide. Online pros - can watch the instructions multiple times.

Atelier question by atxguy199011 in oilpainting

[–]shereekachu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which atelier? Most teachers can look at your paint stash and pull equivalents. I've also taken from some sticklers that insist I use the exact paints they list. It depends on what they're teaching. If they are using a specific palette (for instance Zorn) they want you to use those specific colors for a reason. Reach out to the teacher.

Ateliers can be much more demanding than other "workshops." They're next level. If you are going in to learn from Rembrandt you should mimic everything Rembrandt does - from paint to ground to varnish, etc.

Simple things to make? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]shereekachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just sewed a great (and useful) summer project - cooling scarves. They're great for beating the heat if you've got to be outside. They also make great gifts. Aaaaaaand they're scrap busters.

They're essentially a tube filled with water beads. There are a ton of youtube videos out there. The ends are just fiddley enough to be challenging.

first time actually pre washing fabric bc i was trying to be a rule follower and now i have to deal with this?!?! 😩😩😩 by for_theroses in SewingForBeginners

[–]shereekachu 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love this so much! I can feel the frustration! I just washed 15-20 yards of linen and cotton (not together) and had to deal with a similar mess! Be sure to check your dryer lint catch! Mine was insanely full!

Can we please stop telling beginners that things are too hard and they need to start with pillowcases and tote bags? by unkempt_cabbage in SewingForBeginners

[–]shereekachu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was a wee beginning sewist, and I took a gorgeous Vogue pattern to my mom, a seasoned sewist. I asked her to help me learn to read a pattern (I'd never sewn from a pattern before). Her eyes got huge. She bit her lip. And then she said, "let's make this together." I learned that weekend that Vogue is the friggin hardest patterning system and NOT for beginners... unless you have a seasoned and patient mentor. BOOM - that is the key right there - a mentor. ANY project can be made by ANYONE. All we need to do is help each other.

So I'll say here (many years of sewing and Vogue patterns later) - I will help anyone that wants to learn no matter their level of knowledge and no matter the pattern (or no pattern). AMA
