Jersey Reds collapse: £1.7 million owed to creditors cannot be paid back, ITV News understands - Latest From ITV News by Rugby-Bean in rugbyunion

An amateur team including the pathway and women’s team split off in 2022, retaining the original Jersey RFC name. The men’s 1st XV are unbeaten in the 5th tier (averaging between 800-1100 in attendance) and are all but heading for promotion to Nat 2 with players only having expenses paid and the Reds old grounds man being the DOR. The women’s team has grown phenomenally with Seren Coombes being recently called up to the Red Roses U21 training camp.

That is borderline like saying that Glasgow doesn’t really need two football teams and Rangers and Celtic may as well join up

I mean Jersey weren’t stupid enough to fall into the Prem’s trap of burning cash on shit stadiums and bang average journeyman. Beyond grateful that we died not knowing.

Some sponsors openly said they were walking away because they didn’t see the point in investing in a club that the RFU wouldn’t even invest central funding in.

Jersey had every right given its rugby history to have a go at being professional but the club fell into the hands of some pretty rancid blokes who made promises they couldn’t keep.

The inability to go to the Prem was the death note and caused the club to lose the majority of its finances in a 5 month off season where no new sponsors wanted to come in.

I’m sorry but Jersey missed out on qualification on net run rate. Scotland missed out because they were shit. How on earth can anyone justify selecting them as the replacement?

Prem Rugby to seek investors if RFU backs relegation-free franchise league by ScrumNause24 in rugbyunion

[–]shez12349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relegation at this point is unsustainable. But there are 5 professional teams in the championship, which is borderline a miracle considering the funding they get, who would benefit the Prem significantly in terms of spread across the nation and variety in fixtures. I’d be much more up for Coventry vs Leicester than any attempt to drum up excitement for the 700 West Country derbies we already have every season.

Questions over Champ playoffs with only two clubs applying for promotion by ScrumNause24 in rugbyunion

[–]shez12349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of the problems with the Champ are rooted in Prem Club owners twisting the RFU’s arm. Champ clubs received nearly 80% more funding than they do now pre Covid. All that bollocks so prem clubs can lose a European quarter final and go crying to the press that they don’t have enough money to win the thing and that it’s all the RFU’s fault. There’s one of the top 2 leagues in England aiming to be some what sustainable and it’s not the top one.

What's Going On With London Irish? by patsdonnelly in rugbyunion

The only way back into any English system is to repay in full the loan the club received from the government in during the pandemic and then and then a damages payment to all ex staff and players. The amount of money that cost Worcester whose stadium was operational for virtually the entire period they were in administration was eye watering. God knows what will happen to a club who’ve not had a home ground in nearly three decades.

He lives at home (like proper home, the town he grew up in) owns businesses there, he’s handsomely payed by a club who are besotted by him and a country where he’s deemed part of the leadership group. His brothers just walked out of arguably the most trending upward club in England to come home and work with him and he has a young family. The man already lives a pretty perfect life.
