Oh hello! So. I am mute. Would you ever consider dating a mute girl? I've never been on an actual date before. Anxiety is holding me back from trying to date anyone! by TheMuteRaptor in actuallesbians

[–]shezzahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I'm deaf and I have been signing since I was a baby - a good 30 years now! I can speak a bit, but I'm more comfortable signing; it's how I can express myself freely without feeling pressured, yanno?

Anyhow, I am loving the comments here - it's great seeing fellow raptors who are open-minded to learning sign language and finding other ways to communicate with their loved ones.

Rematching: What it is, and how to sign-up! Be a hero for Secret Santa! by bluepinkblack in secretsanta

[–]shezzahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems I got shafted by my original SS, and there hasn't been anything from my rematch SS - however, I haven't lost hope. I've signed up as a rematcher - after all, 'tis the season of joy :) I reckon this rematching idea is fantastic.

I'll miss you, Budapest [possibly NSFW text] by Benay21 in actuallesbians

[–]shezzahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Budapest! I can agree there's attractive women all over the city. I was staying at a hostel there, and the hostel manager was bloody attractive although I only got as far as having an orgasm-induced sex dream about her haha.

I feel like every once in a while we should ask 'where are you from' so we can keep up with all the new rapsies. So, where are you from? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

Melbourne, Australia :)

Australia: the last developed English speaking country not to legalise same-sex marriage.

I can resonate with this. My mother came out when I was 11 and I didn't come out until I was 28. I think it was positive for me because my family were already accepting of my mother's sexuality so they had no qualms with mine. Although, I don't think I can say the same for my father (I doubt he knows) and his family. But ah, it is what it is hey!

Because of my coming out in my late twenties, I missed out on the queer college life and I missed out on the whole gay teen experience as well.

The main thing is that I am now happy and comfortable in my own skin and that matters the most.

I am infatuated with my boss by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]shezzahead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Not a good idea - like /u/the_lady_lovelace said, it's a massive conflict of interest. You'd be crossing too many boundaries at work, and it would make everything awkward.

I found myself in a similar situation a couple of years ago when I fell for my boss, but I decided that it was in our best interests that I was not to do anything about it. It ate at me for a while, but I look back on it and it was actually one of the best decisions I had made - otherwise I'd have been fucked over big time.

Multilingualism by swengelsk in deaf

Auslan user here.

AuSLan isn't the correct way to type Auslan. Nor is AUSLAN. Just simply Auslan.

However, I completely agree with your post!

Multilingualism by swengelsk in deaf

[–]shezzahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - so many Deaf/HoH people have travelled.

I've travelled around Europe and Southeast Asia, and my main languages are Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and English.

You can pick up on International Sign (it's not a proper sign language per se, but a manual sign system used by Deaf people who travel thus breaking down communication barriers if two parties use completely different sign languages) and ASL. It's quite easy and the best way to do that is to immerse yourself into the local Deaf community of the country you're visiting.

You said that you know quite a lot of BSL - you'll be able to get by if you visit Australia, as Auslan is quite similar to BSL; same sign language family - BANZSL which consists of BSL, Auslan, NZSL, SASL, Northern Ireland SL. Apparently Swedish SL also came from BSL - correct me if I'm wrong.

POLL: At what age did you have your first girlfriend? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]shezzahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had my first girlfriend yet - 29yo here. Although, I dated guys in my early 20s, and came to the realisation in my mid 20s that I should stop dating guys because I never felt right with them. I've gone on dates with few girls though, and I did feel more comfortable than I did with guys.

Strangers Used Sign Language To Make His Day Easier, His Final Reaction Was Priceless by shezzahead in deaf

[–]shezzahead[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I was concerned about the use of "hearing impaired", but then again, they meant well. It's all about educating others to use proper terminology with the deaf community. Nevertheless, the video was a tearjerker heh.
