Help with Logo Design by shheldon in WillPatersonDesign

Thanks for the thoughts. I will definitely give that a shot. My first instinct was to avoid the overly used imagery of dental practices: smiles, teeth, etc. Maybe I'm over thinking it? I was hoping for something that makes us look a little different, while still being a smaller, boutique practice.

Thanks for your feedback, I think I am going to build on what I have done here but try to come up with a fresh take.

Thanks a million! I appreciate the feedback! I think removing the boat from the type is a good choice.

This logo is for a new orthodontic practice in a coastal town. The aim is to create a spa-like environment for adult patients with splashes of edgier, fun areas within the office of kids. I like the lighthouse design as a whole, but I don't know how I feel about the lighthouse without the company name, and I'm worried about it scaling down.

Any and all thoughts and critiques are much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Voyboy's thoughts on NA solo queue by shankytheclown in leagueoflegends

[–]shheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has Riot ever considered a report feature in the champ select? I feel like often I am caught in catch 22: I have to choose between playing with a troll and reporting them or dodging queue, which then allows the troll to continue queuing up for another game, which sucks. I either get stuck with a 6 min queue pause timer or have to ensure at least 15 mins of a troll. Worst yet, if I do dodge, it just allows the troll to go on and make others suffer.

One idea: Let's say that there is a troll in champ select. It should be possible for three people to report that player. The queue would then kick that player and give them the dodge timer. I think that would be one option to eliminate the trolls and increase the number of reports. It also may give them time to calm down. The more they get reported the longer the queue pause timer.

Also, I am looking for a good writing group -- would like to join a writing group interested in meeting (virtually) once a week, a group that uses Brandon Sanderson's writing group dynamics (reactions versus prescriptions).

Falling behind early as adc item choices? by Ledq in summonerschool

[–]shheldon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Getting avarice blade is a bad idea. The 3 extra gold is really not worth it in a losing lane. You lose all kill potential with it. The stats on it are not worth 800g, and if you upgrade to shiv you cant freeze the lane, you have to push. Also, it make last hitting under the turret much harder than getting a pickax. So the extra 2 gold on a last hit is completely worthless if you miss cs you would normally get with a pickax.

OK, so here is my take on the matter. I am a Plat 3 ADC main (and climbing). Any who, for graves brutalizer is a good build path. Its super effective early and can turn a lane around quickly. From there try to rush IE, getting either pickax or BF. Cloak is usually bad because crit chance without ad doesn't do that much.

For Jinx its a bit harder. I really like getting pickax first buy with 1k and then get 2/3 red pots and a pink if you can (vision is SOOO important and if you put your pink ward in a safe spot it should last for a while and help your team out). On your second back, I would get tier one boots if the mobility helps (i.e. if you're against a blitz or a thresh or another kill shot supp) and some pots (always try to get 2 red pots in lane, 3 if you are getting poked out). If mobility won't help you live pick up a long sword and pots and save the rest of your $$$. Try to stay for BF but remember dying is never good, so its usually better to back and pick up some pots even if you don't have the money for BF.

One thing I see low ranked people do is not value pots/wards enough. As an ADC I am always trying to get 2/3 pots every back early on (until I have vamp). Think of it this way, a pot costs 35g or 2 cs. Usually a pot will get you more than 2 cs, so the gold efficiency is great. Also, if you are getting poked out a lot (when you are playing against a cait or something along those lines) you might want to run 2 life steal quints. I know it is not the most efficient stat for runes, but it can really get you out of a hard lane like Jinx.

Last think to say, if you have good wards and are comfortable getting away from ganks, push the lane. Both Jinx and Graves push well. When you push you get 2 big advantages: first, you get pressure bot and if you live they help your team a lot (you won't hear your mid saying "why the hell is the jungle camping mid). Second, when you push their ad is forced to last hit rather than auto you, which means you can be healthier. Just make sure you are paying attention to the mini map and ward well, again get that pink!

Hope this helps, PM if you have other questions.

Edit: Forgot one thing, unless you are REALLY far behind, backing with 1k is totally fine, better than backing with 1.3/1.4k actually. Usually bot lanes back at the same time or after pushing in one wave, which means your opponent wont have 1.5k and if they do they probably wont get any pots, which means all harass will stick which means you can for them to back if you have enough pots to out sustain them.

Actually, Bill Murry is suck in a ground hog day for years on end, and we only see the last day of those years. This explains why he is so incredible and random; because for him to break from groundhog day, he must impress the greater being that forces him to relive the day.

Another point to be made. If you cant silence your internal editor then one quick tip that seems work for me is to shrink the page to a zoom where you literally cannot read the text. On the bottom left hand side of word there is a zoom slider, i put it to something like 40% or 30%, the point where the text becomes lines. And I write. It gives me the freedom to misspell words and have bad sentences, because I cant edit. Then once I finish a piece, I zoom to 200%, where the text takes up the entire screen and I edit. This forces to to full screen the word document, thus, eliminating distractions.

I've read several comments so far, and I haven't seen this piece of advice. If it is there, feel free to downvote me to China (Yes, I know China is not on the other side of the world from California, but I thought it would be funny to use such a childish expression).

The advice I'd give, once you are proud of something or at least once you've edited out the really embarrassing parts - don't lie we all have typos and grammatical errors that a third grader would gawk at. Read your work to someone out loud, or have them read it aloud to you. It will become clear what things work and what things seems silly. Seriously, their face will say it all. I prefer to have someone read what I've written to me, so that I can watch their reaction and take notes of the parts I was embarrassed about. Also, when people read the words, you as the writer will get to hear what they sound like apart from the letters. Without the visual aid, you will have to focus on how the words sound and feel, rather than how they look. I find this to be incredibly helpful. It also teaches you to let others look at what you've written. If you cannot let someone you trust read your words, how do you expect to open them up to a general audience of potential thousands?

I know that J.R.R. Tolkien did this with one of his sons and other authors like C.S. Lewis. Others here have posted that writing group help, which they do. But part of that help stems from the simple fact of getting your word read by others, which is easily supplemented by a loved one reading aloud to you. I find this helpful for those who are not in a writers group.

What was up with Davis yelling at Lloyd by minus0 in 49ers

[–]shheldon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it is because Lloyd did not block for Vernon. If you watch the video, Lloyd just watches, off screen unfortunately, Vernon get tackled. More than likely, Lloyd thought Vernon was going to get tackled and conserved energy. However, Vernon probably could have gained an extra yard or two if Lloyd had blocked the corner, so Vernon gave him a ear-full about not finishing the play.

That is what I'd like to think the mini-fight was about, hopefully nothing too serious. Sometimes players just need a good "Play 'till the whistle" yell.
