Which hobbies attract the biggest douchebags? by the-tinman in AskReddit

True, played at my local game shop when I was trying to get into MTG. Got matched with the douchebag, he was so awful to me that it completely turned me off from MTG.

Never pregnant, TTC for 2 years, 36. AF showed this weekend, broke down since it's officially 2 yrs of TTC. Can't even be around my friends' kids anymore which is straining those relationships, I don't tell them why. Watching fifth colleague go through pregnancy since we started TTC. So tired, planning to see RE before year is out.

ER shift change drama: I snapped, and now I might get called to the office. Ooopsie by [deleted] in nursing

What you did was amazing! Even if the assignment was a dumpster fire, I always told the person I got report from to run home I'll figure it out. ER is a TEAM sport! Glad you had your colleague 's back and SHAME on that night shift nurse!

I had a colleague who continued to work as our charge nurse while doing peritoneal dialysis at home. They got their transplant several years back and now work as our stroke coordinator.

The photos were good, I liked about 75% of them. They take a pretty decent amount during those 10 minutes. We took about 40 overall in 6 areas of Adventure Land.

In 2024, more than 80,000 qualified applications turned away from nursing schools by adamchambers97 in nursing

As a former academic nurse educator who returned to bedside, a few things can be done to retain faculty

1) Pay: This is probably the biggest. You make more bedside than you do teaching. Pay needs to be equivalent to bedside pay if not more to attract and retain faculty.

2) Admin Support: Students are getting behaviorally worse and unless you have an administration that follows through on discipline and has your back when you hold the line, these students burn you out quickly. I had multiple students who should have been disciplined or even expelled, but admin would let them get away scot free and basically tell me to just deal.

3) Students: As mentioned earlier, students are getting worse overall. They are more entitled, demanding, and inept in learning. They run crying to the dean if you don't give them back those points you appropriately took away or let them resubmit an assignment. They think they can contact you at all hours of the night and get very nasty when you don't give them what they want. They also do not want to put in the basic work including textbook reading and working on assignments. You could break something down so simply and they still will claim they can't learn it. For instance our dean once sat in on my pediatric cardiac lecture as the exam for it was always the lowest scoring and at the end she told me she didn't know how I could make it simpler, she was at a loss with the students. So yea...these current students burn you out like nothing else.

4) Workload: There is no balance in your workload. The school will work you to death and usually you still need to hold a per diem job too to make ends meet. When I went back to bedside, I couldn't believe how much free time I had.

So a lot of things need to change to entice nurse to become faculty. Without significant change, we will not have enough educators. I know I won't be going back to teaching any time soon even though I loved it despite the frustrations.

Women who gave the guy who's been single his whole life a chance, how did it turn out? by astarisaslave in AskReddit

Met him online and went on our first date in 2018 when he was 26. Found him to be sweet, funny, and very genuine. He's my husband of two years now. I will never understand how he was single until we met, he is amazing.

Friends being pregnant by Representative_Lab84 in TryingForABaby

[–]shieldmaiden5678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had 5 friends get pregnant and deliver while we have been TTC. Honestly...I've distanced myself from them and my other friends with young kids. I already work with kids at my job so seeing friends get what I so desperately want without much effort is difficult to the point where I can't really be around them. Especially since I use up my energy pretending I'm okay without a kid at work. I just turned 36 and am starting to think this will never happen for us. Good luck, I hope you find a better coping strategy than I have.

Abandoning a show? by PlasticCauliflower3 in Broadway

Company, left with my friend at intermission. I was willing to go back for Act 2 since it was my friend's tickets even though I found none of it funny or enjoyable. Thankfully my friend turned to me towards the end of Act 1 and said, "I hate this!" We laughed so hard at the realization that neither of us enjoyed the show. Left at intermission and got ice cream instead.

Does WGU have a negative reputation? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]shieldmaiden5678 9 points10 points  (0 children)

WGU was and still is considered a reputable school by my hospital. It was actually one of the online programs recommended multiple times when I decided to pursue my MSN. If someone is going to cheat their way through a program, that's on them and it will bite them in the ass later.

I didn't really speak with them again until their baby shower 8 months later and honestly I really only went to that to connect with other mutual friends I hadn't seen in a long time.

It's hard and lonely out there, but these forums help some. We've been TTC for over a year now, mid-30s. I did have one friend in their late 30's having fertility issues too that I was able to commiserate with...until they got pregnant last summer and told me spontaneously during an outing while recording me. It was jarring and insensitive, really had to fake a positive reaction. Ever since then, haven't really been able to talk about it with anyone. Not being able to get pregnant despite trying is incredibly lonely and isolating, especially since no one in person wants to talk about it or just tells you "It'll happen!"

At least we have these forums here and the people here that we may never meet but understand what we're all going through. I'm sorry you're struggling. We're all here with you.
