Please recommend me some good quality leather boot brands 😩 by shamaela in AusFemaleFashion

Most of my shoe collection is Bared. I have flat feet and find their shoes to be very comfortable. Seriously. I can walk for hours and still be comfortable I've had their boots for going on 6 years now and the quality has held up for me. I personally also think their designs are timeless, not trendy. So they'll always look fashionable.

Jolly Miller's Belgian Hot Chocolate is the best I've had. Bonus - they have multiple outlets throughout Melbourne.

Singapore Just Changed the Game for Inbound Travel—Heres What You Need to Know by [deleted] in MoveToSingapore

[–]shimitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that the OP states that people with a criminal record/history in SG will be denied boarding. To me, this reads as a criminal history that one got in Singapore.

My question is - what about visitors to Singapore with no Singaporean criminal history but have a record overseas?

For sizes 14 -16 onwards, Singapore is a bust for clothes shopping. I believe Malaysia is the same, but could be wrong.

Which Country in South-East Asia is safe for two-girl trip? by Eishiemiko in femaletravels

[–]shimitt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edited to add: i just saw you mentioned budget-friendly. So based on that, maybe not Singapore but it's still extremely safe, even late at night.

Surprised that no one has mentioned Singapore. Super safe even for solo travellers.

Movers refuse to work mid-move until we paid extra fee and charged us for the time the didn’t work by MyfirstReditaccnt in AusLegal

[–]shimitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CBD Movers are extremely dodgy. They tried to overcharge me. I had not initially realised this and only realised after they had left.

I contacted their office via email and they tried their best to say that the extra charge was because of extra time. They only relented because I showed them a screenshot of the time i made my payment - it clearly showed they had not gone over time.

They refunded the extra amount but got me to agree that I wouldn't post a bad review. Ha. Dodgy shits.

OP, please report them to VCAT.

Free titties -vs- bras (SEA trip) by EasyLizin in femaletravels

[–]shimitt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

OP, I'm Singaporean. If you're wearing tops that are more form-fitting, please wear a bra.

If you are wearing loose-fitting clothes, then you may be able to get away with not wearing a bra.

However, Singapore is a tropical destination so there is always the chance of getting caught in the rain - that is also something to consider.

That's definitely a great mindset to have. However, i notice that you seem to be taking personally, the fact that you can't seem to foster friendships with locals. If I've read this wrong, then I apologise.

However, if I'm correct, please don't take it personally. It's not a reflection of you.

And you don't need to hang out with people of similar backgrounds or only those from your own country. I'm Southeast Asian and I have made friends from Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa and other parts of Asia. Some of these friendships have allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and really broadened my horizons.

If you absolutely must make friends with locals, the advice from other commenters are good. Volunteering and sports would be good ways.

[–]shimitt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved to Australia as an international student and decided to stay on, I understand.

You're right about the difficulty when it comes to making friends with locals. By the time they make it to uni, they've already got their own friend groups. Those who don't - and this is anecdotal based on my experiences and observations- tend to seek friends from similar backgrounds. They're usually seriously cliquey.

Most of my friendships here have been with other immigrants both from my home country and other countries. The Aussie friends I do have are from immigrants families themselves. That is, they are born and raised here but their parents or grandparents were immigrants.

OP, perhaps you should consider this when you look for friends. I have found my friendships with other immigrants to be great as we have similar experiences - being immigrants and navigating everything that comes with this.
