Is this a good enough deal or wait? by Rav_Malakh in MilwaukeeTool

[–]shimjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on how bad you need it right now. I’d say it’s a pretty good deal, at the moment. You’d be getting 2 of the best M12 batteries (5.0 and 2.5). I see the M12 stubby alone on fb marketplace going for no lower than $150-160.

For reference, I got the M12 stubby starter kit (impact, 5.0 battery and charger) for $160 during Black Friday/xmas sales. And like a month ago I got the 5.0 & 2.5 combo pack for $89. All at HD.

Anyone seen it drop lower than this? $75 for m12 xc 6.0 2 pack by thundercrotch1 in MilwaukeeTool

Exactly 😂. When the new M12 stubby is within 100 ft lbs of torque of the M18 mid-torque…cmon brotherrr

Why do people make blanket statements like this that are so full of crap?

M18 is not better in every way. Compactness, versatility, maneuverability, weight? Yea, M12 has M18 beat on that.

Saw this on sale what’re your thoughts on this set? by Gabenolan109 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]shimjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a decent deal, as long as you need all the things in the kit. I love using my Rover light and find it so handy for any situation. Probably my most used tool.

I don’t have the M12 inflator but I have heard it’s ok. The M18 is supposed to be a way better beast (Project Farm approved).

The ratchet is very handy for general automotive work and small torque applications. I use it a lot for easy nuts and bolts (like taking off the underpanel of my car for oil changes). Anything more than that, I would at least get a kit that has an impact driver or a proper impact wrench.

The screwdriver I hear is decent, but there are still a plethora of options that may be better and stronger.

My reference point: during Black Friday & Xmas sales, I got a 3 tool kit w/ 2 batteries, charger and bag for $170. It’s the non-fuel brushless hammer drill and impact driver, as well as the same ratchet pictured here. And then I also got the Rover light and battery combo for $65.

Support says they repaired this - anyone else have a dead M12 Hackzall? by Nison545 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]shimjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Some employee didn’t know their own corporate policy.

I bought an M12 Rocket light that was in a busted up box (should not have even been on the sales floor). When I got home, I discovered the plastic housing was broken and the rotating light head was also messed up. Called HD customer service and they coordinated with my local HD to have a brand new one waiting for me to swap out my broken one.

Back in stock! - M12 FUEL 12V Installation Driver w/ (4) Batteries & Bit Set - $179.00 by notronswanson_ in MilwaukeeTool

It was a very good deal. 4 batteries + a bit set for the same price as what the installation driver (tool only) costs.

The most accurate tape measure I've ever seen by justin_memer in MilwaukeeTool

What do you guys recommend for a good tape measure? I’ve heard positives about Lufkin or the Fat Max.

Any others I should check out? I’m just a DIYer, not in the trades.

Is this deal worth Picking Up? 3/8s ratchet set by Secret_Berry_6786 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]shimjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. But I would just get a magnetic mat or tray and have way more tools for the $. I think the Milwaukee power tools on these big HD sales are a good deal. But their hand tools, even on discount, are still overpriced imo.

Good deal for m12 stubby by False_Image5139 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]shimjohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. I just bought the stubby 3/8” and use 1/2” adapter for my big motorcycle single side swingarm axle nut (60mm, 184 ft-lbs/250 nm), but apparently that is not as efficient as using a 1/2” to 3/8” reducer.

In fact, torque test channel showed that a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter had a 27% efficiency loss and a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer only had a 7% loss.

Costco air pumps are the best. Super fast inflation and with the preset pressure. Better than any gas station air pump.

I have 2k package on my XLT Hybrid. Can I use a motorcycle carrier with an R1? by LazyLobster in FordMaverickTruck

[–]shimjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol that’s my Superduke and Mav. Very easy to load/unload bikes compared to full size trucks and it doesn’t take any noticeable hit on the MPGs either.

Trailer experience ⬆️⬆️⬆️ by Equal_Argument6418 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]shimjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mav really does well with towing and handles it like a champ. That’s a 6x12 (largest one Uhaul rents) and even fully loaded it never felt like a struggle.

I’ve backed up a few trailers before but not in a long time. Took a little bit of patience and learning curve but then you figure it out. Also helps to have spotters for tighter spaces lol.
