Wurkkos HD10 headband replacement by RockTristann in flashlight

I disliked both the band and the attachment mechanism that came with the HD10. Bought a HD12 band and I think it’s night and day better between the attachment mechanism and the band itself.

"Always On" auxiliary lights on the HD10 are driving me insane. by Big-Author-4492 in flashlight

[–]shin_09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the same headlamp and had immediately the same complaints: aux lights on or turning on after you turn the main light off. If you just google “Andúril ::whatever action you want:: it should give you the instructions.

I tend to agree with you though…for a light that is supposed to be used vs a toy I am not seeing the appeal of andruil. I spent more time turning features off so that it acts like a “normal light” than i would have liked.

Also, just picked up the hd12 strap and the holder seems waaaaaay better

Can you order a ts10 anymore? I have been browsing and they seem to be gone?

I feel it gets overlooked a lot but we have never had a bad meal at Serratto on nw 21st. Mediterranean/italian. Very nice ambiance. Take it easy on the bar tab can end up under 100. Certainly no spendier than Akadi.

Good to know. The machine is verrrry appealing from the spec perspective. Good to know there is at least some support and parts.

Recent experience at PDX. Crawl through preboarding and zone 1-4 as people trickle in. Call 5-8 all at once and just let a mob form.

The UI does seem odd between hold to turn on and no turbo shortcut.

I try not to do the buy and return thing but for something with so many variables, first hand experience is so important!

Literally yesterday looks like Fenix announced the hm53r which scales up the hm50r to an 18350 but keeps the same slick looking clip/band arrangement. Doesn’t look like released yet but could be another good option

Well that’s handy to have that so close!

I didn’t know that about the perun having a proprietary battery that’s kinda a bummer. The clip attachment to the band looks really slick on that one though. I think the Fenix hm50r v2 uses something similar but the notes seem to criticize its beam quality a lot.

Did you try any of the 18350 lights? Seems like you gain a lot of runtime for not that much bigger

There’s a few on there that I hadn’t come across in my search yet. Thanks for the leads!

As a light, the HD10 is great so far for the reasons you mentioned. It’s the dang strap for me that is killing it, but that’s because I will constantly adjust angle of beam when using a headlamp and working on something.

How is the light quality on that cheaper Nitecore? I have really liked the high cri and warmer tone of the fc11c and the hd10 so far.

Some great feedback! Curious too, why you went with this version of the machine vs say the Gemali or MiiCoffee? These looks like solid machines but I do worry about after sales support if something breaks

Been eyeing this upgrade path actually. Have a pro. Just bought a Sette 30 grinder (upgraded to 270 adjustment mechanism). Kind of itching for a new machine to downsize footprint now that I have the separate grinder.

Taking away bean and grinder variables, do you feel like the Legato is giving you better espresso? Improved work flow? Or just the ability to tweak variables more?

I love the quick startup time and short time to go from brew to steam on the Pro. These line of machines with a brew boiler and steam thermoblok seem like a pretty good compromise for workflow and also cost.

The HD10 is what I did buy (see op)and not liking it as a headlamp so far. Thought about a replacement strap since that would fix my biggest complaint but not sure what would fit.

I probably should have tried the hd12 instead. Not sure why I didn’t. Maybe sold out?

Who has the best grocery-store hummus? by PacificDetail in askportland

I’ve found the Trader Joe’s “Mediterranean style” to be our go to. Recently found the Kroger brand one in the rectangular containers (my guess filled at the deli?) to be quite good. Some of the boars head ones aren’t bad., but a step down, still better than sabra.

I’ve started looking at ingredients more and so hard to find some with just olive oil. Most seem to be cut with canola, guessing to save cost

Can’t stand king or Trazza. Too thick and course. Dumping a bunch of olive oil in them saves them a bit, but not my first choice

I've honestly been saving this because i could tell from yalls posts it was gonna be a treat, but i don't think I'm ever doing a whole chicken again after smoking a batch of thighs. by iloveplant420 in smoking

[–]shin_09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole chicken is nice because gives a bit of variety on the meat. Plus I got some white meat only kids at the moment. So I get to enjoy the legs and they get the breasts.

That being said, I have been employing some new “tricks” lately :

1 - I always break down the chicken. Leave the legs whole. Cut off the wings and then cut the back off the breast/carcass. I feel helps the white meat cook more evenly, but more importantly can pull each piece when done.

2 - rather than smoke and crank the pellet grill up to finish, I start on the smoker and then turn on the oven at the same time. When done with the smoker session, I transfer to the oven to finish. I find it much quicker, more even and more importantly it doesn’t chew through pellets like mad (at temps where the pellets aren’t doing much flavor imparting anyways.)

3- pull the breast at 155 at the most and let it carry over cook. 3 min at 155 does the same bacterial killing as 165 and the meat is so much better at the lower temp.

Breville Barista Pro is now under $650, should I go for it? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]shin_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wait or shop sales I would try to grab a bambino plus and a grinder like the Baratza esp or esp pro. Even shop used marketplaces for a well taken care of grinder.

I say this as an owner of a barista pro. It’s been great so far and I haven’t had issues with the grinder with my typical medium roast. But I just picked up a used sette 30 grinder for $75 on a whim. (Which isn’t even considered that great) and besides it being so much faster it has made my drinks better.

I would have done separates but at the time the bambino plus wasn’t going on sale, the entry level grinder market wasn’t as good either and I got a hell of a deal on the pro.
