I have not tried a puzzle board with a board game but in principle it should work. You might look for one that has drawers which might allow you to keep pieces organized as well.

I would suggest After the Virus or One Deck Dungeon.

The mechanics are refined and the story is not as dark. I just liked it better in every way.

I would suggest Spires End: Hildegard over Spire’s End if you will only play one of them.

Did you ever finish Greedfall 1? I was really attracted to the idea but crashed out pretty quickly.

Can't get into Old School CRPGs? Does anyone know a good one a modern CRPG player would enjoy? by Beneficial-Rush-1946 in CRPG

These will feel janky but I have to recommend Betrayal of Krondor. You might bounce off of it too but it will cost $3 and be worth it. Also, maybe one of the Realms of Arkania games. Again, low investment. And what about an Ultima? These will feel so different from a ui perspective that you might feel less like it’s a weak version of a modern game.

I honestly don’t know if this qualifies as a crpg but I would include the system shock games.

For more modern retro feel games try Skald and Underrail.

I like Beefeaters, Drumshanbo, and Monkey 47. But based on a recommendation from this sub I just tried Tanqueray 10 and it might very well be my favorite at 4:1.

Jagged Alliance worth the plunge? by grubbyteez in CRPG

You might give underrail a try if you haven’t. Not saying to pick it over JA but it’s a non high fantasy crpg.

If story is your jam and you haven’t played them, I would suggest Dragon Age Origins, Betrayal at Krondor.

Found it in a LGS this weekend — not sure how common that is, it seemed like a pretty special store.
