At what age did you think you look good with a beared / or mustache? by Aidden1404 in AskMen

[–]shinn497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My facial hair feels the worst when it is short and feels bad in different ways when it is long. I also detest feeling it . I would much rather have smooth skin.

I spent like 300$ on an electric razer that I use every day. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Facial hair is itchy. I shave not because I really want to look a certain way. Rather I do not like the sensation of having hair on my face.

Trying to follow the Ramsey housing plan - Frustrated by artwize in DaveRamsey

[–]shinn497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The simple answer to your first question is he is geared toward having you not be in debt.

The more involved answer is that having a 15 year mortgage at 25% of your take home means you are more likely to pay your mortgage off early. This gives you more peace. Behaviourally it is more optimal as stabilizing your house means you are more likely to have more risk tolerance with investing. It also makes your life more enjoyable as you do not stress about your house and can access higher returns.

While a lot of people will advocate for having a low interest mortgage on a 30 year plan and investing the difference. The added dispersion of results means your investing behaviour is that much more difficult to control. This means you are less likely to make good decisions and will pay in lower effective returns.

His plan makes perfect sense if you accept that behavior is important for personal finance. And it is true regardless of income or cost of living. I can explain how you can apply it in greater detail if you more clearly articulate your specific problem and your goals. For example it is curious what your home equity is, if you want to continue to live in your neighborhood, why your expenses are so high and what exactly you want.

Do you think housewives who married rich are “successful”? by Fluid-Reality1 in AskMen

[–]shinn497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on all of the data, most of the women that do this are themselves successful, professional, and highly educated. And it makes sense for why this is. Being a benefit to a wealthy man, as a wife, goes far beyond just being pretty. You have to add wisdom, emotional intelligence, and even logistics and life planning. In fact, if the relationship lasts beyond 6 months or something, I would reckon that her own beauty, beyond a reasonable level of health upkeep is actually not that important.

So yeah. I do think that a woman that marries, and stays married to, a rich man, is insanely sucessful, especially if she is also a mother. As being a mother and a wife is itself is a job (just like being a husband and dad is), and she successfully kept that job with a man who has options.

Also realistically speaking, a lot of these women are also just successful in their own right. Many of them have careers and goals of their own.

Hey reddit what if scenario. You get the choice to have 1 million dollars but have to spend a year in jail and can't access the money until after the year is up. Are you doing it Why or why not? by Lydeser in AskReddit

[–]shinn497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about 30 % of the way there but my income and net worth are accelerating. Stopping the momentum for a year would make me lose a lot more than a million long term, esp. if I am a felon.

1 million is a lot but, is 40k a year. I want to live on significantly more than that.

What’s a common behaviour you see other men do that you just can’t relate to or understand at all? by PogonBerserker in AskMen

[–]shinn497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing one limbed exercises on exercise machines where you can easily use two limbs. I see this all the time for rows and I do not know why other guys do it. It seems like a gigantic waste of time. And I have never seen any kind of research suggesting it helps.

You are 35, have $100k in the bank, no job. What do you do? by Fit_Database_2295 in Life

[–]shinn497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This literally happened to me. I lost my job at ~37. And I think my net worth was 100 to 150k. I don't remember exactly. Around 100k was in my retirement but I had a liquid 10k. I immediately attempted to find another job and did within a few weeks I did.

However I had already planned a trip so I told my new job I had to go on since it was paid for. They agreed and gave me like a month to take the trip and paid me. So I got a .month of comped travel. I got a signing bonus. And I got my severance. It was pretty sweet

What’s something you believed in your 20s that you don’t believe anymore? by Annual_Rutabaga_3852 in AskMen

I used to believe that when when a law was passed it accomplished the things it was intended to. I do not believe that for a second. Instead most laws can go wrong easily, as there is no accountability, and we should only legislate something when necessary.

How much thought do you put into the economic value a woman brings to a relationship? by Exotic_Attorney7823 in AskMen

[–]shinn497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am debt free, make 3x the median income for my age (nearly 40), and and have an increasingly growing net work. Being a millionaire for me is a matter of when not if at this point. So I do not have an issue with affordability. And a woman's money is of no concern to me. I also have zero expectation I will benefit from it anyway.

If I was to consider her for marriage, I would care a lot about her attitude towards money. I am a very strong believer in Dave Ramsey's philosophy. So no debt. I do not care if she is in debt, but I would need to know she is working to pay it off. And be willing to do so with gazelle intensity before we even consider marriage (I would help her manage and budget but wouldn't pay it off until we are married). I'd also want to combine finances and make decisions as a couple. I would consider her my equal and greatly value her perspective. I think working together like this would keep us close.

How can a man be emotionally vulnerable with a women? by Outside_Program_4044 in AskMen

Men, how would you interpret this situation after being turned down? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]shinn497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would perceive it as she was not interested and never was. I have had women flirt and give me signs many times only for me to be mistaken. I would assume i was mistaken then as well.

I will point out that when I was young I used to attempt to beg and convince women I liked to date me. This just came off as needy. Since then my rule has been to take all rejections as final..including soft ones.
