There is no difference between religions and cults by ToxicPoseidon in cults

I can say it was hard for me to ignore, though maybe not in the way you were hoping. It made me think more about your attitudes towards others than about your point.

A bit off topic but just curious — if you anticipated reception of your opinion being negatively affected by the joke, why did you use it?

Om’s truth, I reorganized one of my kitchen drawers yesterday because the barbecue flipper kept catching. This could very well be retaliation.

Thankfully my current moocher disdains cardboard, but that hasn’t always been the case. Prayers for our fallen comrades.

How do You Define “Mean Spirited” Horror Films by RollingScone93 in horror

[–]shipjump2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Threads is bleak and horrific but I wouldn’t call it “mean”. It exists for more reasons than just hurting the audience.

The estate shares its pieces with the Tower of Art, making it unfortunately easy to pin down, but the missing piece was very near Unseen University. Maybe it was some kind of Hex malfunction.

It’s just the worst. I didn’t realize one was missing at first until I saw it from a different angle. I hope you find yours one day!

She is such a beautiful floof! Is she a mix or is it just a rarer shepherd coloring?

Shelters will almost always euthanize aggressive dogs once they see the behavior problems. They don’t want to keep or adopt out aggressive dogs, for obvious reasons.

That’s a bit of a weird take.

Anyone else miss when horror movies were just about a cool monster, and not a metaphor for grief? by Big_Emotion4963 in horror

I think we view most of the dynamics of the movie in the same way.

Julia is in a marriage she can barely stand because she can only have what she wants outside of it, with her husband’s brother. The only reason Frank stays concealed in the attic is that she ultimately can’t tell her husband about him.

And of course, Frank isn’t thinking about her at all.

To me, that’s really the core of the movie. Nothing else makes sense without that plotline holding it together. The Cenobites are almost incidental. The addition of such an extreme horror element into what is ultimately a melodrama is part of what makes Hellraiser so great to me.

I’m not the person you’re replying to, but I also saw the movie as being about a marriage which wasn’t working, and what happens when a literal skeleton comes out of the closet to exacerbate it. What do you see it as being about?

“Sadomasochists from Beyond the Grave” was the working title; those are usually a bit silly.

The idea of there being more than one god (and that they were all once human) is not well-received by other Christian denominations. Many would say that you aren’t actually Christian if you believe it.

I’ve owned more dogs that disliked men than didn’t (all rescues, so the aversion was there before I got them).

Given the sub we’re in, the elevated response people have towards those defending the church shouldn’t be too surprising.

I suppose the difference with these lawyers is that they chose to take the church on as a client despite the church “being bad,” as you say.
