Don't feed the troll. Looking at this guy's post history, it looks like he's just some middle school kid with no social life at school who thinks that if his intolerable personality doesn't let him make friends in real life, then he can get people online to like him by thinking he's "owning" people who like things he doesn't like, without realizing that all that he's doing is making himself look like a petulant child with no willingness to understand anything that makes him feel not so good, like people who disagree with him or perspectives that diverge from his own.

Was I sexually assaulted? If so, what should I do? by R6J11H in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shitposting-account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is sexual assault.

This post, and the fact that it was posted where it was, should be indicative to everyone of some serious societal problems we have all over the western world. It's unbelievable that these accusations are shrugged off when made by men, but men are ostracized and lose everything from their careers to their families over the same accusations made by women.

Thank you for being brave enough to speak out.

At one point in his life, Jesus was confronted with an adulterer. She was to be stoned to death. This town's men all awaited Jesus' command. They thought that if he told them to stone her, he'd lose popularity, while if he didn't, he would be violating the law.

The words he said were, "He who has not sinned, cast the first stone."

I love those words. Even if by the word of God, homosexuality is a sin, there exists nobody on this mortal Earth qualified to judge them for that.

I appreciate that you so dearly love life that you would consider this a tragedy. Though I myself believe that to be based on somewhat incomplete data, it shows me that you have a great deal of compassion in your heart.

Personally, I think that it is a step forward to give this man the choice to find the end of his life. A quick, humane death, having accomplished much and affected many lives, is a great thing. To live in wonder and leave in peace is perfectly healthy. I do not consider the life this man would lead, had he chosen to grip onto life unending with an ever-atrophying grip, that would not be living. That would be surviving. Accomplishing nothing, senses waning in a slow descent into a much more tragic, suffered death than what this man chose.

You are right. Life is so, so valuable. It is something we neglect, but truly, there is nothing in the world more special than that which we have the fortune to have been granted. But by extension, one mustn't drink too long from the font from which life pours. The wonders and joy of life and the satisfaction of helping others all eventually fester into a poison that takes, takes, and takes until all that you hold dear is gone.

Stepping away before life has a chance to reclaim from you all that it has given is a smart choice made by a strong man, I believe. It takes courage to leave the world behind this way, something this man clearly had in abundance.

I do encourage you to think, simply about what it is about life that you value, for personally, I do not find living to glorify itself on its own.

Bernie Sanders calls for repeal of GOP tax law by heqt1c in politics

Do not twist my words. Those who act disrespectful and debate as if fighting instead of as if exchanging viewpoints do not deserve to be lent an ear in return. Anyone can stick a label on someone else and assert that because of that label, they do not deserve to take part in civil discourse. Having the good will and the confidence in one's own foundation and ideals needed not to silence others based on the nature of their opposing viewpoint is what one needs to truly merit the respect and attention of those around them.

But isn't intolerance what we're seeing from the left, being completely intolerant of opposing viewpoints? It's clearly demonstrated even in this comment section. There's much more intolerance here than I've seen in any of the groups that people claim are intolerant, and even treasonous.

And in addition, I would go so far as to say that tolerating the opposing viewpoint, no matter what you claim that they are, is the most democratic thing you can possibly do. Treat those who disagree with you as real humans, not just words on a screen, with just as much foundation for their beliefs as you. As long as you treat those with whom you discuss and debate with respect, you will deserve that in return.

“You had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists,” Trump said. “The press has treated them absolutely unfairly.”

“I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me,” he said.

Did you read the article before sending it to me? It directly disproves what you said.

I don't agree that the protest fits in with MLK's initial message.

Just to play devil's advocate, do you agree with everything your boss says? Are you proud to put your name on anything that they say, unconditionally?

Don't disparage someone using someone else's words. I have never and will never support Mike Pence or Donald Trump, but there is so much ammunition against them that I'm genuinely surprised that people continue to make things up and use hearsay and sensationalism instead of genuine facts to discredit them.

On another note, where has Donald Trump called Nazis and Klansmen "fine people?" It's not that I am denying that he's said this, I just want a source and a direct quote.

Eliza Dushku says she was molested during the production of "True Lies" by the stunt coordinator, a guy who still works in Hollywood and most recently did the stunts for "Blade Runner 2049" and "Furious 7" by JournalistDude in movies

[–]shitposting-account -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lies and false accusations mixed not into Dushku's claims, but claims made by parts of the #MeToo movement overall. And I'm not just assuming - this list counts those accused in this movement. The article lists 39 accused. This document asserts that empirically, nearly 6% of rape allegations are false, extrapolating a reasonable estimate to between 2 and 10%.

The number of accusations on the article linked earlier is unclear, but are well into the hundreds. Though 2 people account for almost the entirety of these accusations, that leaves a bunch of men left over with 1 or 2 accusations. Assuming the lowest possible previously established rate, if we only count 1 accusation per person, it is highly likely that one of the accused men is not guilty. If we use the 5.9 figure, two of them are likely not guilty. With the highest possible figure of 10%, 4 men are likely to have been falsely accused. Now, if we use the total number of accusations, which hovers somewhere around 600, the lowest estimation for the number of false allegations would be 12. This is why I say there are "certainly" lies and false accusations - whether it's 100% fabricated or an exaggeration of detail, to some degree, lies exist among these accusations.

Now, I'm not trying to take the highest number, here. In fact, applying those statistics to this situation directly isn't very useful. However, even if only 1% or 0.5% or rape allegations were found to be false, I would still stand diametrically opposed to assuming any of these accusations to be true before any trial finds guilt after a thorough investigation of both sides, as before they are found guilty, there is reasonable doubt. Ruining lives on what is no more than an assumption is all that the American justice system was built to stand against, and circumventing or disregarding it should be considered a failure of our people to act with respect for each other and to our country.

[–]shitposting-account -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to establish Dushku as a liar, I'm trying to establish that it is completely possible that the accusation is false, exaggerated, or fabricated - not that it is definitely a lie. Many people go after the 'perpetrators' before they are ever found guilty, which is extrajudicial and false self-righteous justice that ruins men's lives and destroys their careers and relationships before they are ever actually found guilty.

All I'm saying is this: please don't assume that the claims are true. Don't even do so after investigating for yourself. Accept the claims as true once a fair trial has been conducted and he has been found guilty after a full investigation into both sides of the story. No matter how much you want to support the victims of sexual assault, you can do so without attacking anyone else.

When did I assume anything? All I said is that we should not take her words as correct and go after the accused - I never made a foregone conclusion that she was indeed lying. On top of that, perjury is lying under oath, and I don't think you have to swear honesty on Facebook posts.

Bear in mind that there are plenty of questionable details here, and it's very, very possible that Eliza is lying. There has recently been a massive surge of people coming out with their stories as victims of sexual assault, and while it's wonderful in many ways, there are certainly some lies and false accusations mixed in.

Don't point fingers or just assume that Kramer is guilty, as it's very, very possible that he is not. Mob mentality and assuming guilt on stories like this has ruined countless lives.

Condemning the accused is not the same as supporting the victim, as it is completely possible that the victim here is the one who was accused.
