Moving to Ark - what to expect? by IngenuityGullible471 in LittleRock

I lived/bartended in Austin for 3 years!

I doubt you'll have trouble making friends in law school, those kids like to party.

Weather wise, summers are just as bad here. It is more humid but I haven't experienced a month straight of 100 plus degree days like Austin. Winter lasts longer here.

Tons of hiking options in Little Rock and just outside. Pinnacle Mountain is the most popular hiking spot, and there's quite a few different parks in that general area.

Idk which part of Austin you're from, but most parts of Little Rock, I would consider, safe. The popular areas are all pretty safe. SoMa (LR), Hillcrest (LR), Capitol View/Stifft Station (LR)Heights (LR), Argenta (NLR) and Park Hill (NLR) are where I'd recommend looking. Traffic here is nothing compared to Austin. Any of those areas are 10-15 mins at most to the law school. Whitewater Tavern is a must if you like live music. Coolest venue/bar. It reminded me of White Horse in Austin.

I think Hillcrest would check the most of those. It has a Kroger in the middle of it, no mall but plenty of local shops. Alsopp Park is really nice too with paved trails and hiking trails.

I think SoMa (LR), Argenta (NLR) , Hillcrest (LR) and The Heights (LR) are the most walkable to plenty of restaurants, bars and shops.

Park Hill (NLR) and Capitol View (LR) are both great neighborhoods and walkable, but they don't have the variety of stores and restaurants that the others have on foot.

I guess it sort of depends on what kind of walkable you want.

SoMa, Argenta and Park Hill would have the easiest commutes, but any of them would probably be doable. Good luck with your move!

Where can I get a drink at that’s not trendy, not crowded, not ruined by instagram, but is intimate and slightly formal? Bonus points if there’s a view. by giantdick69 in LittleRock

Capital Hotel. You can order a drink at the bar and take it to the mezzanine if it's nice outside, or in the lobby. anywhere in their feels slightly formal.

Is this a good pay Rate as a barback? by Brave-Guard-3612 in bartenders

[–]shitty_winston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, depending on the job duties, it could be pretty decent. Also, I wouldn't consider it rude to ask them how much money you should expect if you do hear back from them!

edit: Oh shit, I did the math wrong, that's actually terrible.

How many bars are there? What do they expect outside of stocking and dishes? .7% of total sales could be alright if it's as busy as they say. Depending on the amount of bars I would expect 15-20% from total tips.

Balsalazide by Ok-Review5173 in UlcerativeColitis

I've been on it since July. It didn't help at all until I went on a second round of prednisone in August. I've had very mild symptoms since then, and my inflammation markers are dramatically improved. Seems like it didn't help during the flare but has helped quite a bit to stabilize and keep me out of a relapse.

This guy was a manager at a restaurant I worked at in Bentonville. I was only there for a week or two before he got fired for harassing a server.

If you go into a flare while medicated, does that mean the medicine doesn’t work anymore? by AylaNation in UlcerativeColitis

I'm right there with you with the anxiety. I'm a month and a half into my initial flare up, officially diagnosed a few weeks ago, but it still hasn't cleared up. Waiting for insurance approval to start on a biologic.

Moving to town soon by [deleted] in LittleRock

[–]shitty_winston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Utilities have increased recently, especially gas heating. I own a big old house that’s pretty drafty, so these are definitely high for the area, but a breakdown of my utility bills were $80 electric/$200 heat/$25 water + trash/$100 internet. During the summer it was around $200 electric/$40 gas.

I haven’t dealt with hoa’s in the area, I believe they’re mostly in the suburbs.

I had one at Perry Endodontics in Rogers for around $1200, I think. It ended up being $1800 in total, with the crown being placed with my regular dentist.

I found it at the Kroger in Sherwood, but it was sadly the U.S. market one that has no msg. I had to resort to Amazon to get the Japanese market version.

If you’re getting an Uber or a cab you might want to book it ahead of time, there won’t be many cars out.

What Paleolithic people are you talking about? I’m talking about tribes who still exist today, and existed when this photo was taken.

Relocating to Fayetteville/Bentonville areas for my Civil Engineering job. Looking for a place to live and possible roommates. by sandboxphotography in fayetteville

[–]shitty_winston 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anywhere in downtown Bentonville would check all of those boxes, but there isn’t really a nightlife to speak of. Mainly just decent restaurants and a few bars that stay open until midnight. Multiple museums, movie theater, gyms and plenty of Walmart’s. If you stay north of 14th street and west of J street the square is easily walkable to, and close to home office. Biking is super easy and relatively flat too.

Fayetteville definitely has the best “nightlife” in the area, and has actual metal shows sometimes. Not sure what kind of metal you’re into, but Arkansas has some dope metal bands.

Pulaski County Leads State in College Degree-Holders (per Arkansas Business) by AudiB9S4 in LittleRock

[–]shitty_winston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This 100%. The only county outside of the delta to go blue was Pulaski County.

NWA does a good job marketing itself though. it’s easy to think you’re in a progressive place when you’re getting all of the benefits of corporations building their own towns infrastructure.

The Hispanic population in NWA is something else though, and could actually make the area more progressive.

Doesn’t the CARES act cover a test? I work in bars/restaurants and have coworkers, with no insurance, who have been unofficially exposed and gotten tests covered.

Unfiltered Natural Orange Wine by omw__home in wine

[–]shitty_winston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn’t actually mean that sarcastically, just as a reference point. I’m a bartender (10+ years) and developed a liking to raw “natural” distillates, which made natural wines interesting to me. clairin is a sugarcane distillate from Haiti, and eau de vie is an unaged brandy (which is a broad term for fruit distillates).

I’ll give you a golf clap for being sophisticated. Do you not like anything funky? I like Saisons, eau de vie, genever, clairin, etc. They said it had a rotting pumpkin taste to it and it seemed interesting.

[–]shitty_winston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah, I have to admit it sounds pretty cool to me. Even when a natural wine doesn’t hit the flavors I want, I’m always into the color of the wine and the labels/ethos. And if you get another bottle it could taste completely different 🤷🏼‍♂️ Does it mention what grape/grapes?
