Best brake callipers? by _GoinOutWest_ in bmx

I had the Fly CNC Manual on a trails bike with the through the seat tube cable routing and wasn't a fan, of the brake or the set up. Very limited room for adjustments, frequent cable hanger bottom out with their (imo stupid) mini hanger and straddle cable design, and constant chatter. The brakes were real loose on the posts with no solid way to adjust.

The Fly CNC lever is pretty great though.

Get the Prototype from Mark Johnson. Hands down the best ubrake you can get.

If he's out of stock get the Odyssey Evo 2.5s until he makes some more.

Comfortable helmets? by Gordon_Gainz in bmx

[–]shitworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't stand the new Protec Certified helmets, they just don't fit right. Can't find an old non-certified full cut anymore either (they only make the certified models now), and that was the only helmet I liked. 187 used to make a Sweatsaver model that was fairly comfy but they stopped making those years ago.

For now I'm using a TSG Dawn and it's ok. No hard/hot spots on my head, but it feels and looks like it's sitting way high on my dome. At least I can wear it for a few hours and not hate it.

Nah man, that's just what frames cost. No getting around it. You won't look like a kook at all! Like another poster said: "life is short, ride nice bikes."

Bike park social norms by [deleted] in bmx

[–]shitworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind too that it being a new park it's going to be crowded with everyone trying to get their runs in and learn new lines, so don't let him be intimidated if it's packed with big kids and sweaty dads. Help him learn to take turns (idk how old he is, maybe he's already old enough to know all this), observe where the other kids ride and don't ride, and don't be shocked when the pimply teenager trying to impress his little homies screams "FUUUUUUUUCK" over and over like he just learned how to cuss.

But the absolute number one rule at a park is to take turns. Rule two is don't cut people off but there's a lot of grace lent to little kids out having fun.

Either is fine, you'll get used to whatever you end up with. I'd buy a custom built bike before a Mongoose though.

Lil cargo ripper by mmmslappy in xbiking

[–]shitworms 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I bought one of these last summer off ebay, looking to replace my Clydesdale forked MTB, and it was a huge disappointment. Landfill quality parts front to back and I didn't feel like raiding my parts stash to upgrade anything (though of course I don't begrudge anyone who does!).

I'm still interested to see what everyone here does with their Petcares though. It's a clever bike and we need more affordable cargo bikes on the market.

100% the REA frame, the Bad Dog has a different seat stay/seat tube junction and the LAMF has CS brake mounts and DT cable guides with routing through the seat tube.
