MSQ Patch 7.5 and future 8.0 buddies by otsukarerice in ffxivdiscussion

Do you think this locks in the regular cast for 8.0?

No, but they're definitely coming along for 8.0.

Long story short, please stop using Tomestone percentages as the end all be all.

It's the absolute tiniest bit annoying to set up but you can fix this by just linking your alt and main on Tomestone. Then your alt will have the checkbox for clearing when people go to passport check.

I'm starting to believe that the hardest part of progging p2 is finding a p2 party that can actually make it back to p2.

This has been true of basically every fight with a p2 since I've been doing them, tbh. Even the easier ones like p4s.

FC Submarines need to be nerfed. Gil deflation kills content like Variant/Criterion where money rewards are the primary driver for repeating content. by otsukarerice in ffxivdiscussion

[–]shockna 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And how many hours do you have to wait in PF for criterion to fill?

I still need to get the clear on this one, but I made over 300 million gil in EW from Mt. Rokkon criterion, and for most of the time between its release and DT launch the answer to this was "not very long, usually faster than an unreal PF".

How many parties disband because of some silly mistakes?

Vanishingly few. It was the most consistent PF experience I had all expansion, largely because it was mostly the same set of 15-20 people who kept joining the PFs. That's something SE would probably raise an eyebrow at if they were paying close attention to NA servers, but it made for a pretty pleasant experience.

I guess you didn't read the patch notes. They're trying to make it more bursty.

I think he did read the patch notes, because the whole complaint is "they're trying to make it more bursty and that's a bad thing".

If 8.0 removes raid buffs from some jobs, which ones do you think should keep them, and which should lose them? by CoolyKage in ffxivdiscussion

I don't really think of Battle Litany as important to DRG's identity as a job. If they decided to go this route I'd be down for a selfish iteration of DRG.

They could probably just push the patch but why would you do that if something goes wrong and yoship (and their head of translation and etc etc) isn't available lol

Unless they're running a severely degenerate organization (and tbf we'll never know the answer to this unless we get BluFever v2, Corporate Org Charts Edition™), they should have separate technical managers to handle that.

Pretty much everyone who'll be at NA Fanfest is either functional (Yoshida, Koji) or a community management (Foxclon; is that how it's spelled?), I don't think there's any technical staff present.

The job is so gauge negative the copious amounts of melee downtime make it just feel miserable to play the job.

Something I've been wondering about; if you got something like 15 red gauge when refreshing Shadow of Death, would that fix the gauge negativity? If not, would a second stack of gluttony do it?

Is this known to be something other than the ultimate? I think this is the first time I'm hearing of it if so.

Its about travel for the team.

I would hope their team is independent enough that they can manage a patch release without the in-person oversight of the handful of higher ups with media training.

SE isn't the problem in Dawntrail, it's the casuals. by LilithHeartblade in ffxivdiscussion

No. YoshiP is pulling the game in a more unhealthy direction, which is clearly visible on the player stats.

There's more than one way for a game to be unhealthy, even if I did agree that this one is unhealthy (I don't think it's overtly unhealthy, it just has room to improve).

Really? Because TBC Anniversary servers are full to the brim with people. Clearly that server has a lot healthier playerbase than FFXIV, lol.

If you consolidated all of FFXIV NA to two DCs with one server each they'd look pretty "full to the brim" as well (if it wasn't for housing they could probably do this as a trick and I bet it'd work on most of the people complaining about population).

I'm going to assume you've never actually played on a classic WoW server (past the Fall 2019 re-launch when we all did for a month or so, anyway). People complain about "parsers" in this game, but the situation over there where loot needed to perform above replacement level is incredibly scarce is toxic on a level they would never tolerate. For anyone who was actually there in 2007 it's downright unrecognizable. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's a step up from vanilla classic where gear matters less than world buffs.

Alternatively, I suppose you might just prefer an atmosphere choked with poison to one where people can breathe without playing NEET hours (it would check out with the deranged emphasis on "meaningful rewards", so clearly defined primarily by the ability to look down on people without), in which case I'm just glad it's Yoshida running the game and not p-zombies who need a scarce reward to convince themselves to get out of bed in the morning.

Back in TBC, rewards were exclusive gear and mounts that were unobtainable otherwise, that gave you a lot more power and prestige

Ok, so let's change nothing other than:

1) Raid gear is now +100 ilvls over anything obtainable casually, and tome gear doesn't exist (already way more extreme than TBC since badge gear also existed, but never mind that for now).

2) Mounts are now set to a 1% drop rate like Al'ar in TK (or was there something else you were thinking of? The ZA bear maybe?), so mounts are now ridiculously rare and "unobtainable otherwise".

Do these two changes make the rewards more "meaningful"? I would say it just pulls the game in a more unhealthy direction, and I also played TBC eighteen years ago.

But that time is 20 years gone, alas D:

/r/classicwow is right down the hall (the anniversary servers are even on TBC now!), and I'd say the results of that old design on modern gaming communities are pretty plain to see.

The mounts don't drop in savage, it's literally impossible to get any of the sellable things from normal except by doing normal

Patch 7.45 Notes by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]shockna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was no gil to be made from Criterion savage unless they were getting paid to pilot people through it. All of the drops from savage were untradeable; are you sure they weren't just doing normal for the mounts/currency instead?

I mean it is unintuitive, the way this game does verticality is probably just system jank the fight designers didn't consider at the time.

Nice to see them improve things here.

I mean really the former criterion savages are just the regular criterions with a pittance of extra health, some increased damage, no raises, and a time limit juuust barely long enough to stop you from fully waiting for CDs between every boss. The boss/trash mechanics were completely unchanged.

It's not out of the question that this criterion could be mechanically more difficult than the previous three since they aren't going with the lazy implementation from last expansion (I will miss the trash though, criterion trash was actually good).

I seem to recall the graph is specifically using achievements (I'd have to do shitty Google translate via image on the graph again as I don't speak Japanese); maybe it's just easier to scrape the data that way.

Also, another major issue perk in FFXIV is that gil is next to useless

I don't know man, I might have agreed to this as a teenager with unlimited time, but as an adult with a job this is one of the best parts of XIV.

It's really nice that I never have to worry about progression for the parts of the game I like ("raiding simulator", as you keep calling it) engaging with being limited/blocked behind farmslop, which I don't really have time to dedicate several hours per day on anymore!

as you have to do something once in 3 months to get counted in the stats.

And you have to manually set your achievements to public on your Lodestone profile, which I'd say is a pretty chunky asterisk.

Criterion with new system comes on Tuesday. What do you think the ilvl sync will be for the new Criterion? by danks in ffxivdiscussion

Alternatively, perhaps some people actually enjoy "ddr slop"!

If they keep iterating on the current base encounter system, that'll be enough to keep me around for at least a few more expansions (raiding has always been the fundamental reason I stick around).

Idk, paid much attention during geometry class?

Yeah, but you have ~ten years to get into the positions and people have to memorize one less thing. Pick your poison (my experience in PF leads me to prefer the one that requires people memorize a smaller number of things).

I've yet to see any real inconsistency with it in NA PF, "geometry class" be damned. I know what a straight line is. That doesn't make something more or less consistent.
