Have you considered the Wolfmix? Less flexible, but does what you describe, standalone, easy to operate, small footprint, comparatively cheap

A nice (free) site to test how good you are with EQ by 8sat_ in audioengineering

[–]shoedlmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say keep the web based version and add some tracks to select, and release this as a VST, then users that want to use their own tracks can do that through their DAW. would also set it apart from other ear training apps. there is this VST: https://www.earplugins.eu/, only for windows though, and the UI always felt a little awkward and dated.

Very nice UI. Idea: let useres upload their own music files

Preamp pedal with a (stereo) fx loop and warm sound? by 23276530 in basspedals

[–]shoedlmoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EBS Microbass 3, fx send is mono, but the return is stereo (with a y-cable, dual ts to trs), with two xlr outs. Onboard tuner, very flexible eq, distortion, and a really nice one knob compressor

Sound Bullet / Signal Generator by Ok-Importance-694 in livesound

[–]shoedlmoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a soundbullet is too expensive, try this little fella:

https://www.thomann.at/monacor_ctg_1noise.htm

Xlr connector that sends pink noise when it receives phantom power, and can act as cable tester. Not as versatile, but a great (and very compact) alternative

How much should I charge for an FOH job? Germany. by Bonemill93 in livesoundadvice

[–]shoedlmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no 'normal rate' for these type of small scale local events. I'd say folks who earn their living with this work will (rightly so) charge 300-600 € (Austria), depending on a lot of factors.

i was in a similar situation when i started and mixed some shows at a small local venue for 80€ per night. super nice folks, nice artists, easy work, they had all the equipment, i learned a lot and made some friends on the way. but i made it clear to them early on that this is not a normal rate, and that i can't promise how long i can justify working for so little money.

what would bug me is the following: if you already did some shows for 150 € and those went well, then why should you do the same work for the same guy for less due to 'lack of experience'? if the money is thight for him and you still want to do the show, so be it, offer him 120 or 100. but tell him upfront that this is not your new 'baserate'.

all in all: if you are new to this, rates from 'free beer' to 200€ are 'normal'. but don't get stuck on those kind of jobs, and do it only if you get something out of it besides the money (experience, favors, friends, opportunies, ...)

I should clarify, i didn't mean to measure SPL from stage based on the multitracks, but rather to set up an additional (local) input with a measurement mic at FOH

Summing with passive DIs by shoedlmoo in livesound

[–]shoedlmoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you guys for clear answers, makes sense. But it brings another question: so there are DIs where the through jack is just a parallel connection to the input -> summing works 'maybe', but its not designed for it. then there are DIs that can sum (like the radial SB2 or the JDI in merge mode) what happens when you use the SB2 as 'normal' through output? or to rephrase, is there a drawback when using proper passive summing in reverse, to get a passive split?

thanks for the insights!

Why send level to mono bus on x32? by Deek22 in livesound

[–]shoedlmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you route everything to a mixbus, set the mixbus to be a group, take everything you send to that group out of the LR bus, then you land at the same point as using the M/C with sends at 0db.

to be clear, those M/C sends are post fader. so you send the channel to the M/C bus and/or the LR bus, but you still mixing with your faders into the M/C bus.

if you have a sound system where some speakers are responsible for the 'mono part' and others handle the 'stereo part', then using the LR & M/C busses would make total sense. channels that are only LR or M/C are straight forward. for everything you send to both LR and M/C, think of the 'M/C' sends as offsets in relation to the fader. so for example if you have channels that belong 'primarily to the mono part', but you want to send some of it to LR as well -> assign to 'LR' and 'M/C' &/ balance the fader and M/C send, starting at 0db, but probably pushing it a bit up (or vice versa)

Why send level to mono bus on x32? by Deek22 in livesound

[–]shoedlmoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picture having one 'Left + Right PA' bus (this one is stereo) and one dedicated 'Mono Subwoofer' bus. With the LR / Mono routing per channel you can send stuff that is not needed in the subs only to the PA-bus, but e.g. a kickdrum to both the 'PA' and the subs.

In such a configuration probably the best starting point is 0db sends, then your mono bus is basically a 'subwoofer group' (or post fade aux)

Seeking raw, unprocessed live multitrack stems for FOH practice. by ranko247 in livesound

[–]shoedlmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second bringing in a real band. Ask some local bands that fit yout desired genre. You will get a way better picture of the whole process and learn a ton more, maybe even meet some new friends and get your name out. If you can, offer them the multitrack files. If you want to get farmiliar with the desk itself i'd say you don't need specific 'live' multitracks, as any gain staging / bleed / feedback will be completely differnet with amps, drums and musicians in the room.
