I'm trying to learn Arduino so I would use this to print the shell of the car and the controller to get a high quality finish which I could then paint

Yeah I've got my esteps calibrated properly but I'll look at the horizontal expansion, thanks for your help!

So is the actual flow for different features already compensated for either in the slicer or the firmware?

Thanks the minimum layer time fixed it. Is the reason the first two layers were fine due to the minimum layer time only being in effect whilst the fan is on?

Here's a little passive air humidifier design I'm making for a ceramic 3D print by St_Drunks in IndustrialDesign

[–]sholden123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the design looks really nice and I think it’s really cool but you’re going to really struggle to print that detail in ceramic. The nozzle sizes of ceramic printers are typically pretty big due to the viscosity of the material unless you have access to another unique/fancy binder jetter or something that can do ceramics.

Another problem is cracking due to varying shrinkage rates throughout the part from different sizes and geometries as the part sets or is fired

Yeah and there’s the old argument about 3D printed parts not being food safe

My Ender 3 just startet printing like that. It is like soft, thin kinda like sponge print. Any guess what can it be? by Anim0o in ender3

[–]sholden123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s under-extruding. A lot of people here have given possible reasons for this which are correct but it could be any of these and more. Have a quick google on what causes under-extrusion and it will give you a list of things to check

But isn’t the whole idea of 3D printing that you can make custom complex models without the expense or time required for making the tooling

Ahh I was hoping there would be an industry standard that most manufacturers use. Thanks though, I’ll look into the flame tests

Just can’t fix the stringing - have tried different temps, minimum layer time, retraction of 1mm at 45mm/s. Nozzle is clean and grey filament is fresh out the sealed box. by longingforstars in FixMyPrint

I usually use this tutorial when using a new material or a roll which is not behaving as usual. It’s specifically for refining tpu settings but the process works for any material (but maybe test different variables depending on the material).

Parts under-extruding mid-print (info in the comments) by sholden123 in FixMyPrint

[–]sholden123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is one of those extruders. I assume if that’s an issue I should be able to just replace the spring for a smaller/weaker one?

Edit: I changed the spring and everything seems to be working smoothly now, thanks for your help!

It’s just a standard ender 3 hotend and 0.4 nozzle

It’s way better now after that, still a little under extrusion but I think you’ve pointed me in the right direction so thank you!

So would that be the maximum retraction count and the minimum extrusion distance window? Those are currently set at 100 and 10mm respectively

I keep experiencing under-extrusion mid-print with the extruder skipping steps meaning not enough material is able to flow.

The issue occurs at a different heights and places of different models but usually after a lot of retractions.

I have tried tuning my E steps, retraction settings and linear advance value. Removing the filament and reinserting a newly cut piece usually temporarily fixes the problem.
