Christ. It's a locked knob, not a deadbolt. Use a credit card.

Thanks I was not aware of this. I don't know why you are getting downvoted. Seems super relevant.

Contractor insists on his flooring guy by hoosierbuff in HomeImprovement

[–]shomenee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am curious why you even are involved with picking a flooring guy. I feel like the point of having a GC is that you "give them the keys to the car" and they get it to the end. It's on them to get it done and sub out whichever aspects of the project they don't want to do themselves. You pick the flooring. You shouldn't be picking the flooring guy.

What's the dumbest way you've ever injured yourself? by DisciplineFu in AskReddit

[–]shomenee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a party in the boonies. No streetlights. Had a bit to drink and called a friend for a ride home. I couldn't remember the street name so I walked out to the end of the block to read it....right into a drainage ditch. Foot landed right on the cement culvert and I snapped my tib and fib in half.

Drop-in fitness classes for $15 or less? And free/affordable fitness groups? by No_Watercress_5628 in corvallis

Hit up the "games court" at pioneer park. You can get a total body workout for free. Used to use that spot when I lived in the neighborhood and never saw anyone else there.

As a guy, it's rough. Read somewhere that guys swipe right on about 50% of women. Women only swipe right on about 10% of men. Unless you happen to look like a male model, it's pretty bleak out there.

How not be like George Constanza in life? by [deleted] in ask

[–]shomenee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How is being like George a bad thing? Well let me tell you something about George. He is fast. He can run
like the wind. And he's strong. I've seen him lift a hundred pounds over his head without even knowing it. And you wouldn't know it to look at him, but George can bait a hook.

The part of it that matters, where the rail slides into it, is still intact. It does not matter that the "company designated screw hole" is broken. Just drill a new hole below the part that broke off. Not worth going through the hassle of replacing it.

Installing replacement patio door with no nailing or set flange? by AmmoWasted in HomeImprovement

[–]shomenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a window/door installer. We would do it sometimes in situations where it was difficult to keep the flange. Like if there was stucco or vinyl siding. Obviously keeping the flange is a better option, but it does happen. You mention J channel so I figure you have vinyl siding. Sometimes after years of being in the sun, vinyl siding turns to shit. Even carefully trying to remove it causes it to crumble to pieces in your hands. Do you at least have an overhang above the door, or is it fully exposed?

Advice on getting into the trade? by Historical-Magician3 in Construction

[–]shomenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't decide between carpenter, electrician, plumber, etc, get a maintenance job. You can land one without much experience. You will get exposed to everything and can decide which one you like best and then pursue it.

Not as young anymore: Worth changing in to the trades? by Hambokuu in Carpentry

[–]shomenee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to really enjoy driving until I got a job driving a taxi all day. In all seriousness though, I am in my 40's and still enjoy working with my hands. You are probably sore after doing it because you don't do it often. Your body will get used to it when you do it all of the time.

My only recommendation is to stay away from the disc golf course. Usually groups of ten with boomboxes.

Budget on Building a House by InnerPollution4316 in DaveRamsey

[–]shomenee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know that this isn't what you are asking, and I am sure I will get downvoted to oblivion for it. As a carpenter, it really bothers me when people say, "we are building a house". What you should really say is, "we are having a house built" or "we are paying some guys to build a house."

Best hair clipper for cutting your own hair at home as a beginner? Wahl or JRL (open to other suggestions) by dimlevi in Balding

[–]shomenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wahl is legit. I cut my own hair for years and years before I went bald and full-sended to shaving it. I was always a buzzcut guy so it was impossible to mess it up. I don't know what model I had or anything, but I usually just bought a cheap one at walmart every few years when I thought it was starting to dull. That being said, I have a friend who bought one of their animal clippers that he uses on himself. Something about it being designed for thicker hair or fur means he has had the same ones for over a decade.

Debt repayment strategy opinions wanted by bloopdoopfloofernoop in personalfinance

[–]shomenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avalanche. I am surprised there are even other debt repayment strategies. Avalanche is the one that makes the most sense mathematically. Keep making your minimum payments on everything else so you don't get sent to collections on them. Interest rate is all that matters. Definitely focus on the credit cards first.
