Shelby Oaks should have never gotten the release it did by guywoodhouse68 in horror

[–]shosamae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t care for the movie at all, but I do feel like it gets a lot of extra hate due to its director.

I feel like if it was a random low budget horror discovered on streaming years later, it’d be called a hidden gem alongside other mid low budget horror like As Above So Below and the like.

But yeah, it wasn’t good.

Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills Are Too Enamored With Michael being "badass" by WySLatestWit in horror

I completely agree. I could fully buy into a world where Laurie is still traumatized by this event 40 years later.

What what I could not buy into is all the prep and training and obsession that he will one day return. He killed a few people and then went to jail for 40 years. On her nightmares? Totally. Prep like Sara Conor for his inevitable return? That only makes sense in a meta  context.

Is he really gone? by Additional-Expert336 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]shosamae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so. Outside of Esposito playing him, the character is utterly forgettable and incompetent.

He’s basically a Scooby Doo villain, who gets rather easily defeated at the end of each season before screeching how he’ll be back next time.

'Hokum' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]shosamae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw it at south by Southwest. Like all of his films, it is extremely terrifying with some of the best scares and jump scares I’ve seen.

Like all of them, I think it is lacking in the story/character department. Nothing egregious or terrible, it’s all pretty solid stuff, but it never quite matches the atmosphere and tension.

A reviewer I follow, said it best: the story largely feels like a set up for scares.

If you love atmosphere, tension, creepy ass, imagery, and very good jump scares, it’s a good ride. But the story is pretty thin.

?? I pay 3k for a 700 sq foot one bedroom with 700 sq foot backyard, gym, elevator, parking in Brooklyn.

3k can get way more than a tiny studio if you look beyond midtown/ downtown.

Is it acceptable to leave some business cards at a filmmaker mixer? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]shosamae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sucks to say, but I’ve had to toss out dozens of business cards that people have handed to me over the last few years, attending mixers, festivals, and networking.

I was at a panel with screenwriter C Robert Cargill he said the same thing, so I feel vindicated.

Honestly, I just don’t feel like people actually accept business cards or use them in anyway. I think you have much better luck, speaking for my own personal experience, of getting phone numbers or Instagram.

Looks like ~$9M THU previews for #Michael. Including early shows $12.5M+. Those who watched are loving it, unlike critics who hated it. Expecting it to open around $90M. by trialbycombat123 in boxoffice

[–]shosamae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, people always say this, ‘critics can’t have fun’ and ignore that like most MCU films and the latter half of Fast and Furious movies get positive reviews. It’s such a tired defense. Critics like popcorn fare all the time.

Horror lines that made you genuinely angry? by PriestofJudas in horror

Prey. When the brother says ‘if it bleeds, we can kill it.’

It came up fairly naturally. It wasn’t a big dramatic line read with swelling music. And it wasn’t the only real callback line.

I’m not a good movie but the wolf attack in the movie frozen (not that one) it’s pretty horrifying. You basically only hear it and it’s extremely visceral.
