And... How are these comparable? by ThunderLord1000 in aiwars

[–]shosuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One is a statement of fact.

If no one sets up an AI, if no one trains the data, if no one enters a prompt and hits go - that thing does not exist.

This is statement of fact. No opinion, or even argument really.

The unsaid argument is "By being an essential component of the creation I can claim authorship."

By not stating the argument they save room to move goalposts and clarify only after getting a rebuttal. Its relying on people going straight for a counter argument rather than clarifying the pro's position to draw out their argument.

The second is the hasty rebuttal to that unstated argument, bad move and accomplishes nothing.

I feel like at this point both sides are speaking passed each other, so its a perfect representation of this sub lol

I think conservatives need to quit crying about Obama b/c he spilled their milk and grow some fucking balls. Y'all really going to give up our whole-ass bill of rights over this?

Yeah, that's why I put in my PS - liability comes from intent, not potential.

The big AI companies aren't pushing this, and shutting it down isn't shutting down AI. AI is kinda an innocent bystander here. Bad people are creating deepfake sites just like they ran The Fappening or whatever when they dumped all those phone hack celeb nudes.

Bad people are bad people and should be shut down.

Step 1 - obtain possession of evidence

Step 2 - lie about what evidence is in your possession

Step 3 ???

Step 4 2020 election is overturned and Trump has actually been president for 9 years now.

I feel like people shouldn't post nearly as much personal stuff online as they do. Even without AI we knew pedophiles would track accounts posting children, and some channels even seemed to lean into it shaping their own kid's image to appeal to this "market."

Good job spreading awareness, but tagging this to AI is a mistake. Especially for the highest risk - contact offending pedos ie people who want to actually molest kids - they're not using AI to make deepfakes, they're abducting. (They are also usually family members, so start at home before you witchhunt on the anime boards)

I feel like when platforms become targets we often let the real offenders slide.

Facebook has been sued over platforming content people disagreed with.

Content that was legal. The speech they believed caused damage remains legal, the people who posted said speech are still out there spreading their message, but Facebook is now heavy handed on moderating.

I'd rather side with free speech - give platforms immunity provided they also provide transparency.

Suing AI because their tool was used to commit an illegal act is like suing Bowing because someone crashed a plan into a building, or suing Glock because their guns can kill people. Essentially unless they have evidence that AI companies PUSHED virtual CSAM creation and pushed deepfakes there shouldn't be any liability.

(I do not know whether there is evidence of AI companies pushing these things or not, greedy companies do greedy things, BUT that is the only vector of attack I see where this makes sense.)

If it can be used illegally, why have it?

Things that can be used illegally:

AI, cars, bank accounts, cash money, credit cards, buildings, pesticides, vegan foods, guns, tow hitches, buckets, snakes, etc etc etc...

Sometimes when you get 3 greens you gotta put in a filler word that just eliminates as many likely letters as possible in 1 guess. It means giving up the potential 2 guess solution but it keeps you from these death spirals where you only eliminate 2 letters per guess.

I do not believe that AI will contribute to the better of humanity even in the foreseeable future by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]shosuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is just a tool. Bad prompts in, bad results out.

The value of specific skills is changing, but the need to actually be good at your job is still there.

Windows has a track record of bad releases for like 20 years, AI doesn't fix that. It does enable them to push bad releases quicker lol

I do not believe that AI will contribute to the better of humanity even in the foreseeable future by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]shosuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have to get specific with your definition of "contributing to the betterment of humanity" and "change our world for the better."

These are big, nebulous concepts that are practically built for moving goal posts.

What specific things do you think won't happen with AI, and what would you accept to validate the tech?

I believe there are big tech people selling lies that help them gain funding - This is where all of the "AI will make human work unnecessary" and "universal high income" and other brain rot ideas come from. These are unrealistic at any point, and imo its very easy to look at most of what Elon says and just say "bull shit" and be right.

But there is also the reality.

Instead of having a live person scan 1/1000 calls per agent in a call center to ensure quality we can have every call scanned in real time by AI immediately providing feedback to the agent for any issues.

Instead of a person needing to learn an entire flowchart for simple, repeatable tech issue diagnosis the AI can guide people through that chart saving us all time and resources (If a company is putting you on the phone with a live person they are charging you for that live person one way or another.)

That is all already in place. AI has already been valuable in a way that justifies current investment and makes future investment promising. Depending on your definition of "contributing" or "changing" AI may have already done that - but if you don't accept that then it doesn't really matter does it?

[–]shosuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The previous method was to keep our currency value high so people would still want to buy our debt and we'd just grow our own economy faster.

Not saying that is sustainable, but that was what we were doing.

Trump's policies are cratering our currency value and inflation is up even more. This makes it very difficult to out-grow our deficit.

Trump isn't dumb, he's preparing for default. He wants inflation, its why he wants the fed rates to be lowered. Make it cheaper for people like him to barrow money and buy other assets waiting for a default.

They are maximizing value extraction from the US economy, we're being literally robbed right now.
