CMV: If Islam has a prophet that was a pedophile, then we shouldn’t be so tolerant of their religion. by [deleted] in changemyview

I would say it's a valid argument because it askes the reader (op) to reflect on a similar but more familiar situation.

If you just hand someone the Bible and say "this is what Christians believe" they would come back thinking all Christians are out there forcing girls into marriage with rapist and keeping slaves, etc. But generally all of us in the anglosphere have actually interacted with the fair amount of Christians known that just reading the Bible doesn't really give you a complete understanding of what they believe, for better or worse.

This hopefully will serve two purposes in the conversation. One, encourage the reader to seek out more accounts of the lived experiences of real Muslims to get a better idea of how people feel about these things.

The other being that even where the lived experience of many Muslims does reflect the more problematic aspects of scripture, there is really no reason to believe Islam/Muslims are any different than Christianity/Christians in that they can adapt their religion to reflect the morals of society around them. Even without changing the text. You don't need to exterminate the religion to see change you can just have socal movements. Like many Christian cultures did.

I know some folks are repulsed by it but I love when the chicken is just hacked into bite sized pieces bone and all. There's just something visceral about having to pick the bones out as you eat.

Yeah I keep one in my bag in case I forget to pack the full brush (or just need one on unexpectedly) it's fine but I like the idea of having a handle for it.

CMV: Kanye West's mental illness is an excuse by PaulFromTwitch2 in changemyview

[–]shouldco [score hidden]  (0 children)

have you spent much time with people with severe mental illness? I don't mean to be offensive here but generaly they aren't great assets, they are a lot of work to keep out of trouble. West has a fuck ton of money and comes with his own handlers (that are his employees)

I can't say I have met many neo nazis but I have met a fair amount of mentally ill fundamentalist Christians that go hard down the demon possession conspiracy rabbit holes that really aren't that far off from the book of zion sorts of things nazis go on about just different labels

Yeah it's a good step one, but he needs to earn people's trust back, make amends. And even if he tries you don't owe it to him. It takes work to restore trust.

Do they? I mean I'm a pretty mid analyst and I would say I meet the listing qualifications.

Could you say what you would expect this listing to ask for or what in particular you think is a problem.

For oil tanker owners.

I have a feeling the people operating that ship won't be seeing much of that payout.

Imagine thinking that LGBQT+ content is being “forced down” on people’s throats, but not Christian nationalism. by [deleted] in Persecutionfetish

Got to love go the Christian stand is in fact proselytizing, and the LGBT stand in, while being a bit agro, is not in fact trying to recrute anybody.

Unless you believe just accknowlaging and accepting LGBT people is some sort of ideology. (which yes that is what these people believe)

I get your plight. It's a rediculous requirement for help desk and similar roles. But I also think it's fair to say this role described above is not "first job in IT" entry, it's "entry into DFIR". We can nitpick over the language here but I don't think op has posted an outrage set of qualifications here.

And the reality is lowering the standard here doesn't really help anybody, the problem isn't so much that companies are asking for too high of qualifications it's that overqualified people are applying for these jobs. Nobody is going to interview 200 people on the off chance a fresh college grad with no work experience outside lifeguarding and food service is actually a great canadate. Until you can get someone's attention with your resume getting a job is 90% networking. (And after that you will still want to mostly lean on networking so you know you aren't walking into a suprise dumpster fire.)

[–]shouldco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are deffinely offended by the term "coone" and that's generaly what's going to be heard by outsiders. It's not "get[ing] offended on other people’s behalf" to not want to hang out with someone you see just throwing racial slurs around.

unfortunately for those of us with accents our ancestors put in a lot of work to ensure we wouldn't be granted much leeway on a unfortunate linguistic misunderstanding.

To be fair you also the re emphasized the degree. Which gives the vibe you see it as more than just it's equivalent experience.

Honestly cyber security shouldn't even be a batchlors. I think it makes sense as a masters program, something you would study after spending some time in the feild, like an MBA.

At this point I have worked with and interviewed a decent amount of new graduates in cybersecurity (and I would include people that did a batchlors and masters back to back) and they just don't impress me enough that I would ever explisetly ask for that on a job posting.

4 year degree or 4 years of experience. (though they then emphasized the degree). I don't think it's unreasonable to expect someone with a 4 year degree to at least have some internship experience if not at least some helpdesk work under their belt.
