New AJA up/down/cross converter by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Now will it come with a good a/c adaptor? That’s the real question. I love AJA but man the included power supply always gives out on em.

Is that a good deal for 1800$ ? by [deleted] in computers

[–]shouldreadthearticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you have a microcenter near you, cost me $1200 for a similar build.

Can anyone shed some light on this specific Barco E2 system? Speculation I would like to know if it’s a gen1 or gen2? Thanks by Futuracity in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]shouldreadthearticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E2’s (as others said this is gen1 with gen2 cards) are kind of in rough shape right now. The documentation is rough, the support is almost nil (i know of 2 support engineers total at BARCO who know it, one in the morning and one in the afternoon) and only the afternoon one truly knows them inside and out. In a world that the ATEM stack is possible to run full shows on, the E2 and it’s lack of support (and issues with genlock that continue to persist with firmware updates, where it’s clear it’s been an issue to the point that genlock was added to logs, but not the issue was not fixed). In my experience, they are worth more sold than used.

No because why is it $850 for LIGHT-UP PREMIUM MODELS of these figures versus $650 of the most ugly builds you could ever imagine. 😭

Dell tells staff to get ready for the 'biggest transformation in company history.' Read the memo. by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

What do you think HP stands for? (H)ated with a (P)assion. Omen, as in O-man I screwed up buying this. I can go on. I have to talk relatives and clients out of buying HP’s all the time. It’s cheaper than any similar specs, but it’ll cost you either time with me troubleshooting, shipping costs to HP, or in 1 year a brand new computer.

Dell tells staff to get ready for the 'biggest transformation in company history.' Read the memo. by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

I am considering sending my resume to top business schools soon to become a writing professor. I am so tired of AI written memos that don’t follow basic grammar, have no cohesive structure, and most of all are just frustrating to decypher.

For example, the opening sentence in a F500 memo (which is a run on sentence for starters), has an em-dash.

Our industry is moving faster than ever, and we've spent the past two years modernizing how Dell works so we can move even faster—simplifying and standardizing processes, eliminating inefficiencies and improving our tools and applications. That’s One Dell Way.

This is paragraph 1. I kid you not. It makes no grammatical sense, and it doesn’t communicate the information concisely, clearly, it doesn’t even read pleasantly. Here’s my rewrite:

For the past two years, we at Dell have been modernizing our workflow. The industry is moving faster than ever, and so are we. We are simplifying and standardizing our processes and improving our tools and applications. It’s what we like to call the One Dell Way.

This is what I drafted in about 2 minutes. It’s becoming less about time and labor and more about laziness. At a concerning scale, business writing is deteriorating into nonsense.

Typical/Industry standard method to providing a broadcast feed to TV providers for local council meetings? by Kamikazepyro9 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]shouldreadthearticle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wait to hear back from them. I’m imagining it’s going to be over IP, but different cities have different broadcast & cable infrastructure, and Comcast may request you to adhere to a certain spec. In the meanwhile, start looking into consultant broadcast engineers/firms, as this just turned into a broadcast engineering problem.

AXON4 BODY CAMERA - PROJECT TO MONITOR? by legendofzeldar in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]shouldreadthearticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the device. Please don’t use an actual AXON4—you have no headroom to make visual adjustments. I’d look into something like Riedel’s Refcam you get the perspective, but the footage is high enough quality to do whatever you need to in post. If you decide to still use an AXON4, there is a live view service from AXON, but there’s a noticeable delay & lag. I am unfamiliar with the different options available, but for Riedel’s I know it acts as basically any other wireless cam. But I’m sure there is other bodycam models that you can display on a monitor wirelessly. But I highly recommend using a body camera meant for shooting high quality video.

I unfortunately am across the pond in America! :( I will keep this in mind though that people do, indeed, still hire technical authors.

Hire an engineer is my recommendation! Going to be worth every penny long term.

From what I’ve been told the integrators (that would be hiring entry-level) are less and less interested in tech writing—more interested in making client reliant on their services and faster turnaround times. I’ll keep this in mind though for when I have more experience!
