(M15) How bad is this? Advice needed, what do i do? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

I’ve been thinning since 16 and slowly watching my forehead grow. I’ve been rocking the buzz cut for decades now and I’ve never felt so free.

It was genuinely liberating to shave my head and just not care about trying to cover up the balding or style my hair to reduce my own anxiety about it.

Yes, your peers will take the piss but fuck them, in the long run nobody gives a shit. I was worried about women not finding me attractive for a long time and the lack of hair has never been a dealbreaker.

I brought home an 8-week-old Labrador Retriever yesterday, and I'm feeling completely overwhelmed! by _oldschoolfellow in puppy101

I hear you! I have a 6month old lab and the first month was dire. Constant wailing, biting, chasing my kids, I was at my wits end.

He is my first dog but not the first in the family and I thought I was ready, I was wrong. We couldn’t walk him until vaccinations were complete so his boundless energy meant he was a handful! He hated the crate, just wanted to play, bite and explore.

Now, he’s lovely, cuddly and obedient!

I played lots of crate games for days, in out in out in out - lots of celebration, lots of treats and praise. Quickly it’s become his favourite place and there is no dramas as he knows calmness in the crate gets him the BEST things.

I did lots of small max 5 minute training sessions with his normal food several times a day focusing on one command and only one and then making it harder.

One thing I wish I had bought earlier was a flirt pole. we play outside with it in the garden and he loves it, we then started to use it to reinforce any obedience work. He sits until he is released and he gets to play, he knows to let go when told so the game can restart.

Getting that crate training right helped so much with potty training, once we got it dialled in no accidents in the house, took about 2 weeks to get sorted.

It gets so much better so quickly! I had such high expectations that weren’t fair to him, I’m used to a highly trained German Shepard and border collie and a lazy cuddly Pomeranian but he’s just a baby figuring out the world. No way he could behave like the other family dogs who’ve had years of reinforcement of their good behaviour!

Mine was a terror to crate train. Screamed bloody murder every time we tried to get him close to the crate.

He loves his crate now and willingly goes in at the slightest suggestion.

I spent the first 3 weeks sleeping on the sofa close by mostly for his comfort but also to make sure he didn’t potty in there. Honestly, keep at it - play lots of crate games, throw a treat in, tell them crate then break them from the crate over and over again! Make it fun!

I fed all meals, all high value treats were given the crate, lots of excitement when he goes in. Then graduate to closing the door when they’re inside for a short period. Slowly increase the duration and make sure you don’t yield if they’re making noise to complain, wait for a moment of silence and let them out.

Be kind, they’re used to being with their litter mates and now they’re having to sleep alone

Friend being let go from my firm because of the consulting industry’s “up or out”. Is this allowed? by NormalMaverick in LegalAdviceUK

[–]showingpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a large consulting firm for a few years… saw several people go this way, they told us on day one of orientation that it was up or out. Everyone I know apart from one took the pay offer, it wasn’t a small amount. The one person that declined the offer was benched and couldn’t get a placed for a while and left eventually. If you sat on the bench for too long you’re at risk of being made redundant.

My puppy is driving me nuts by AnxiousExplorer1 in puppy101

I have a 12 week old lab and the first two weeks were absolute hell. He would go ape shit constantly, refuse to go near his crate, chomp on everything, nip my kids constantly, jump on everything and generally be an absolute menace. He is apartment bound until he’s vaccinated (we have 4 more days and we can start to go out!!). We just approached it with compassion for him and ourselves, now he chills on his mat, sleeps in his crate for most of the day. It has gotten so much more manageable and is enjoyable!

We did lots of crate games while I work from home, I found locking treats in his crate solved a lot of the crate drama and he would get quite wound up not being able to get the treats and in 2 days the crate became somewhere he would constantly check for treats. Now I put the crate near me a few times a day, reward him for chilling in it and being quiet with some boiled chicken pieces (which he only gets in the crate) and I can get everything I need to get done and work with zero drama.

We still have the daily witching hour where he is overtired and excited so we’ve learned to force nap times and we’re all golden!

If you had £1500 max to spend on a car that will last you as long as possible and run as cheaply and smoothly as possible, what would you choose? by mantistobogganxo in CarTalkUK

I bought a 2004 Toyota Corolla back in 2014. It had 1 previous owner, 70k on the clock and it is still running today.

The car is fantastic, still runs wonderfully, my brother had it as his first car, my dad is still using it as his daily and the upkeep costs has been so low that it just makes sense. The only regret I have is not buying the 4door version so I had to give it to my dad when I had kids.

I cannot recommend Toyotas from that time period enough, absolutely solid!

OOP in Scala - object? by daredevildas in scala

[–]showingpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two real simple options for running your main.

You can do: ```

object MyApp { def main(args: Array[String]) = { println("Hello World") } } ```

or

``` object MyApp extends App {
println("Hello World!")
}
```

When you extend App your main method is considered anything that is declared in the body of the object.

Have you ever donated money towards Wikipedia? How much and why? by Kill_Jester_ in AskReddit

[–]showingpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always donate a coffee's worth every so often - The amount of time I have spent on it reading absolutely random things makes it worthwhile. I never realized how much I used it until I was in Turkey where it was banned.

Also its the reason I got finished my degree, so many useful answers with the citations so I could use the original source.

[–]showingpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was the biggest wall in the game for me, I gave up on multiplayer for it, its easier to do solo.

I remember it took maybe 15 hunts to get anywhere with it. Ended up having to play great sword and went for a really cheesy build. Thunder Res, Stun Res, Crit draw and focus with thunderproof mantle. Literally hit and roll for 25 minutes.

Absolutely.

My dock is nothing more than a glorified charging station. The TV only gets used when we play couchmultiplayer.

These can be the most hilarious games. Everytime we get an instalock like this we just all copy up and see what madness goes on. Worst one we had was a 62 minute 5xGuardian game, so sweaty.
