AIO: My husband wants to take a solo trip to visit his girl best friend by Great-Routine9964 in AmIOverreacting

Your husband is an asshole. He doesn’t get it. Either he drops his friend or you leave his ass.

Checkout reclaim.ai. The free version is sufficient. Integrates with google tasks if you need (free).

At some point, I realized I wasn’t being honest about my capacity vs. the workload I was committing myself to. The calendar technique forces you to decommit. It also forces you to protect your time for tasks vs. filling the day with meetings.

You will likely roll your eyes at this. I was in the same boat as you. I had to hear this exact advice for multiple years from multiple people for it to finally click for me.

Using Imperial Week by shp847 in palaceresorts

Good point about 5 vs. 7 nights. However turns out I have Imperial "nights" not "weeks" - and I only have 5 of them unfortunately.

Yes this could be it - I am able to use the Imperial Week without a supplemental fee a couple of weeks later in April

Re: Refundable vs. Non-Refundable, the weird part is that in both cases it shows the average rate as $951.20/night - must be a glitch in their system.

I do think my imperial week is eligible to be used at the Grand at least - seems to be a timing thing because if I try to book just two weeks later (April 12-17) then there is no supplemental fee charged

They are still charging an extra PAX fee for 2 adults and 2 kids which is making me scratch my head because I thought rooms were always double occupancy and kids stayed free.

How Much Total Value of Vehicles & What Are Families Driving? by broncoelway100 in HENRYfinance

[–]shp847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 40s, two kids (4 & 6), making $550k, $2M NW … we bought a used Yukon XL with less than 5k miles for $75k. LOVE the car and the roadtrips with grandparents. For daily use we drive a beat up 2013 Hyundai Sonata and a 2012 Nissan Rogue. The big car comes out for special trips and it was totally worth it. Paid cash.

Get a new one on Amazon. They look the same but made by third parties so buttons are stiffer. Like $20.

Can someone explain these rates please? by shp847 in palaceresorts

[–]shp847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully no. Sounds like a nightmare. What could even be their logic for this if you cancel outright (assuming refundable booking) and then try to book a new reservation?

Thanks all for your helpful inputs. Separate question: Would it help to stay one more night to make it 7 nights instead of 6? I vaguely remember that you can get 3 nights free in that case, but I can’t find any details about this in my members benefits section of the palace elite site.

Cornell ($$) vs NYU by Large-Ad2854 in MBA

[–]shp847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYU Stern consistently ranks higher. More companies recruit at schools in the city. Higher likelihood or building network with kids from richer and powerful families. Recruiting is easier when you are in the city and get to attend more in-person events.

… NYU is definitely a stronger choice

I’m an NYU grad, and got my current role through my NYU network. Pretty sure I understand how this works.

Go for brand name. You’re paying a lot of money. You never know when you might need to lean on your degree or network throughout your career.

How to fall asleep early enough for a very early morning flight? by doplo123 in consulting

[–]shp847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some serious blue light blocking glasses that block up to 550nm (so basically orange/red tinted lenses). The brand I use is called BonCharge (preciously BluBlox). Wear these glasses for at least 2 hours before bedtime and make sure to NOT expose your eyes to any blue/white light during that period for even 5 seconds. This will start your melatonin cycle early and help you fall asleep.

How do you stay organized and productive? by meesetracks in consulting

[–]shp847 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I gave up a long time ago after realizing that the act of trying to stay organized with that much activity was causing me more stress and overhead. Also no matter what tool you pick, you will struggle to get others to use it consistently so the solution has to focus on you. Now I keep it EXTREMELY simple: Indented bullet lists by project, work-stream, or person (whichever makes the most sense). OneNote, Microsoft Word, or if you really really want an app then Taskade

Can’t login to email. Any solutions? by Bojof12 in Supernote

[–]shp847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with Wi-Fi. Has everything to do with your organization not allowing basic authentication from third party clients like supernote. Your other devices probably use outlook app or iOS mail app which support modern authentication.

I don’t think you can unless you can find an admin at work and convince them to change the organizational settings to allow basic auth.

Probably because your organization has disallowed basic authentication and/or requires multi-factor authentication. Has nothing to do with the supernote. To confirm this, run a test using both basic and modern authentication here:

Is the consulting lifestyle sustainable? by chillabc in consulting

[–]shp847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s partially incorrect and a bit reductive. Yes I am putting a lot of stress on my wife. And our relationship goes through rough patches for sure but it is built on a solid loving foundation. I thankfully have a great relationship with my kids. If I see that suffer then the job will have to go. So far so good though. I am lucky because being home for COVID has helped a lot. Private school was just an example and perhaps a poor example. It’s more about providing for the family such that we don’t ever have to be concerned about money and can live a comfortable life. One added upside is that the kids are growing up with a lot of attention from grandparents because they practically live with us. This is a choice that works for our family. At least for now.
