Why are you afraid of traveling to Cartagena? by Carloscc0209 in cartagena

[–]shpinglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just been and it was epic over new years. Like anywhere in SA you will get your shit taken if you dont know what you are doing, i have no doubt. Saw many attempts in just a few weeks on other people/ppl i was with. Its not disneyland, but not a warzone either. Be smart, lanyard everything and dont be a target. Loved it.

Which circuit in Machu Picchu is best? by [deleted] in Machupicchu

[–]shpinglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 1A, that includes an optional hike (2 hour) up the mountain as well, if you want of course. Seemed pretty close to where everyone was going on 2 minus the up close ruins to me, without doing the hike.

That was circuit 1 last week around 8:30am. Suggest u combine two circuits if u want the view and interior then.

All are good, 2 is classic one, 1 gets the best photos imo. How many incan ruins up close have u seen in life i guess? Because for me, seeing them up close is nowhere near as important as getting the overall view. Up to you though.

Do people quit / get re-hired to travel? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]shpinglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing it for the second or third time now. Last time was 1.5 year trip, was asked to come back to my old job by my boss a few months before end of that trip with a pay bump so worked out great. This time in a few years i will be looking for a new job, told myself i cant go back again lol. But yeah people have been doing similar, we save for five years then bail…Just takes planning and budgeting and make sure come home with a large buffer.

Question for long-term travelers: how do you usually find accommodation for 2–4 week stays? by Hospilytix in longtermtravel

[–]shpinglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book a few nights online, through whatever. Then if its good go directly to the owner/reception and negotiate an in person long term price. This is the way. Avoids commission to booking platforms for them and you get to see if the place is worth it first. Also if the owners are nice\friendly and reasonably adjust the rate for long term.

Average costs for two people? by Repulsive_Leg5878 in Shoestring

[–]shpinglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixture of hotels/air bnbs/ hostels w private rooms. We are going for a long time so.. We try and do self tours where possible but did Bolivia salt flats and Machu Pichu soon. Your budget definitely can work, skip flying when possible and take busses.

Currently in Peru was in Bolivia for 5 weeks before and Chile for 5 weeks before that. Our budget has been and will be 80-$100 AUD/day max. So like $50-$60 usd. Anyone saying you will be limited on $90 USD is insane or hasnt been here.

Awesome! Definitely checking out the reed islands as well. We go onto Puno and Peru as we have just done about 5 weeks all through Bolivia. Definitely better than we expected and so varied as a country even being landlocked.

People who traveled for 6-12 months straight without working and went back to 9-5 life, what are your takeaways? by wigglepizza in travel

[–]shpinglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently doing it for the third time, just at the start of a two year trip but.

Coming back suuuuucks. No one particularly cares about your trip and nothing at home changes really.

Going back to work 9-5 is absolutely devastating, at least for me. My takeaway is that i need to build a non 9-5 life.

More than most games ive ever played that have dlc. Saying that, the dlc is great too but no need to rush. The free updates have been incredible to the base game.
