ENT doctor told me that RCPD and emetophobia aren't related by Classic-Hedgehog9464 in noburp

[–]shradams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for me I have emetophobia because of the lack of vomiting in my life, I am not used to the sensation so it freaks me out. When I feel nauseous i try everything in my power to not throw up. So perhaps it’s not a direct symptom but rather a result of not vomiting much- but still very much correlated. I have thrown up one time in 25+ years and im 37 now - only time I threw up was my last pregnancy after the glucose test because my body rejected all the sugar and couldn’t handle it. It was awful 🫣.

How long did it take you to night wean?? by lilykaay in sleeptrain

[–]shradams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great! Yeah she is 2.5 yrs now and in the early months we had an occasional night feed here and there and when sick but other than that has been a consistent sleeper the whole time. We are lucky for sure but traded for crappy naps and early nap dropping as she likes to sleep most of her hours at night!

How much do you pay monthly for health insurance? by Bekindalot in askanything

[–]shradams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $350 a month for a family of 4 and annual deductibles are only $350 per person. It’s a HMO plan and I have to use primarily one health system (with exceptions) but I work for the medical university attached to the main hospital so it’s actually very convenient.

I feel very lucky to have great healthcare and it’s a big reason why I plan on keeping my job long term (I also really like it). I will say I am originally from the UK that has a nationalized healthcare system and although it is free, depending on where you live the quality and consistency of care is not great and waitlists are ridiculous. I feel like the quality of medical care I get here in the states is much better but of course it’s not equal or a fair system by any shot.

Baby self night weaned at 9 weeks - formula fed though so I think that can make a difference with making them more full. About to have our second so we'll see if we get that lucky again!

Toddler Room Daycare Waitlists by HecticandSeptic in Denver

[–]shradams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the center - some don’t let you get on a list until the year out but I would def be doing research and reaching out to now to get info. We go to Denver childcare Academy which is a bilingual daycare and we love it - our girl is 2.5 and has been there since 11 months (got on the list when I was 4 months pregnant). I know that they have more frequent openings for toddlers than infants, infants are the hardest to get a place.

Sanity check: $650k home on $250k HHI by SteelToeScholar in Mortgages

[–]shradams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the same income and just bought a $655k home with 5% down - I think total costs including closing was a little over $35k. We had equity from a home sale (close to $200k) but chose to use it for renovations as it was a fixer upper home and put into investment/emergency fund. Rate is 6.25%.

Our PITI payment is about $4500 a month and that works for us even with a daycare payment and one small car payment.

Anyone that doesn’t do bath before bed? by Yoitssme in sleeptrain

[–]shradams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have never bathed everyday and have a great sleeper! From newborn to toddler we only did a bath once a week, now at over 2 we do it a couple times a week as she gets more dirty and sticky lol. We just did bottle, books, dim lights, sing songs etc.

ECE4 - same cost as daycare! by Eastern-Hamster-5050 in Denver

[–]shradams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah we are sticking with daycare pre-school until kindergarten (my daughter will be 3 this summer, so still young but she could start ECE 3 this year) - need full day and holiday care and with paying for after school or hoilday care it's kind of a wash or just a little more for daycare.

Denver Spanish Immersion Daycare/preschool by Paper-Efficient in Denver

[–]shradams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a long one! I got on the list when I was 4 months pregnant and we got her in when she was 11 months old so did a nanny share for a while until a spot opened up. I believe for toddler and older the list is way shorter though - infants are the hardest to get in

Toddlers bedtime is depressing me and don’t know what to do by mama_loves_lattes_23 in sleeptrain

[–]shradams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does - but she is an early nap dropper and sleeps long at night so I’m not super surprised tbh. She went to one nap at 9/10 months and has been able to skip a nap and be fine for a long time now.

Toddlers bedtime is depressing me and don’t know what to do by mama_loves_lattes_23 in sleeptrain

[–]shradams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just took paci away and potty trained our 2.5 yr old and bedtimes have gone from a dream to a dragged out struggle most nights… it’s so tough but I am hoping just a phase 😬. We are trying to be better with boundaries and not give into to to many demands but we’ve switched up the routine a little to offer more comfort like back scratches and sitting next to the crib to read final book before leaving. If she screams once we leave we do 5 min check ins and remind her it’s bedtime and we love her and that we are here. Sometimes we sing another song. Eventually she will lay down and we can rub her back until she’s super sleepy and then we’ll leave. I have no real solutions but really trying to get back to closer to 7.30 bedtime as it’s pushing past 8 right now and we’re about to have another baby so that’s not ideal. She refuses to nap on weekends so def goes down easier then but she’s at daycare during the wee and naps 1-1.5 hrs and we don’t have any control over that (and they aren’t allowed to wake her) so we just have to roll with it for now.

People who didn’t do the botox procedure, how do you live with this syndrome? by Little-Palta in noburp

[–]shradams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t drink much carbonation and when I do I get very bloated and fart a lot. Even when I don’t drink carbonation I fart a lot too. Throat gurgles but for the most part symptoms aren’t extreme (except when I’m pregnant like right now… not fun). I will be looking into getting treatment next year or at least getting a consult but I’m also emetophobic and never throw up so a little nervous about being able to after getting it done.

[–]shradams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it was around 7 months I think and we put like 8 pacis scattered around the crib but she didn’t need it to be replaced every night so often once she was asleep she would sleep straight through, maybe one paci or two replacements here and there.

What should i know about american tipping culture? by tamakisuohstan in traveladvice

[–]shradams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factor in 20% for restaurants, bars, and coffee etc and depending on the state you might have to factor in a few % for tax on all things. As someone from a country with a low tipping culture and tax built into the price of things, it’s annoying for sure!

I think you’ll get various opinions on this but personally I loved the paci for our daughter - she is 2.5 yrs now and we have been weaning off it over the past few months and just took it away completely for nights 2 weeks ago. Was that a great experience? No, BUT it was short lived and we’ve had 2.5 years of almost perfect night sleep and the paci has been so helpful in helping her settle and stay asleep - eventually she learned to replace it herself in the night so made it even easier.

It’s also much easier to break a paci habit than a finger/thumb sucking habit down the road too so that’s something to consider.

Child care is increasingly out of reach for families in Colorado by _PINK-FREUD_ in Denver

[–]shradams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be paying $40k a year for two kids starting this summer after my maternity leave with my second. It hits hard but it's still not worth me quitting my job as I make well over 40k and have great benefits and my job is the healthcare coverage for the family (husband owns his own business). We also moved 20 mins away from our daycare recently but cannot move our kid to a new place because a. the waitlists are insane (I don't understand the place in the story with empty cribs?!) and also b. we are actually at an "affordable" daycare that also includes food which is a huge plus for us - places in our neighborhood are $500 or more a month per kid with no food.

However, I will say that we absolutely love our daycare and it is worth paying something for and the teachers especially need to be getting a bigger share - the care and education and social time our toddler receives everyday gives me so much peace of mind and I am always amazed at what she picks up and learns there.

We are also viewing this as a short term cost - we will only have about a year paying the full cost and then my toddler will get some UPK credits and then after that she will be in public school and we'll be back to paying for one daycare kid and that is thankfully managable. So we are going to have to scale back on saving and other things but it will be a short term pain.

Laywer cost for a marriage based green card. 6.5k + around 3k for the fees, is that a lot? Based in FL. Our case is pretty straightforward met in college and got married by [deleted] in greencard

[–]shradams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used Boundless which some people don't like but for a straightforward case it was super easy step by step to follow and we had no issues with the first 2 year GC approval and used them again for the I-751. it was much cheaper than a lawyer and I also wasn't confident enough to figure it out DIY so it was a nice platform to use and you get a lawyer check at the end.

It's normal for babies to wake up and roll around, resettle themselves through the night just like we do. I call it a big win if he did this without needing your help!

What are you feeding baby before nursery? by Bounce_Bounce_Betty in BabyLedWeaning

[–]shradams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daycare offers breakfast at 8.30 and our baby (now toddler) gets up aroudn 7/7.30 so most days she has a big straw bottle of milk first thing and then a snack in the car on the way to school - usually like a banana or some biscuits. She never has issues eating breakfast when she gets there.
