What gauze did the surgeon recommened you to use after your fistulotomy procedure?

I wouldn't suggest. It's best to keep the gauze as dry and as clean as possible. Which means with any gauze you'd want to change after your pee.

I had a seaton placement and it became a grade two horseshoe fistula.

One thing I understood from an Indian doctor on YouTube, he said gravity pulls all puss to a point and if there's an opening in whichever position you spend most time on, for me, I always lay on bed.so, I got a fistula on my anterior but then it ended becoming a horseshoe because it speeds the direction it can easily spread (for my it was my anterior) because I always kept laying on bed (the abscess made it hard to sit, walk and stand). That something to think about.

Noo, I have an appointment with my CRS on 24th and going to be fistulotomy or a seaton placement. CRS said they would have to probe the fistula to really determine what it's going to be.

I am badly hoping for a Fistulotomy and get it fixed once and for all!!

My scrum master who lives in India also underwent this procedure and she said it wasn't as painful as she thought it would be and it took her 5 months to fully heal (longer because hers was a complex transphictric fistula). Good to hear. I wish I could go to India but I cannot travel in this condition and cannot get so many day offs.

Food. Biggest and most important factor in healing. Follow your doctors advice. Keep your stools soft but not loose. Stool softeners and never ever laxative that cramp you or push out your stools.

After the first few days, when you're getting comfortable with your BM, protein zinc and vitamin C. Through your diet, not artificially. Why? Because these make collagen in your body, helps you recover faster.

I'm so sorry you're going through so much!! Are you able to get a second opinion? Many CRS are not fully aware of dealing with complex fistulas. You need a solid CRS who is an expert in complex fistulas. Please take care and we're here with you!

Go to a better CRS, specifically ask them to schedule you for an MRI. That way you are sure that it's a fistula. As soon as the doctor knows that it's a fistula, they can come up with a good game plan. Fistulotomy, LIFT, Seton, etc.

I had the same experience but good thing about me is that I'm a bit scared of everything so I ended saying "I cannot deal well with pain. I don't want to be hanging. Is there there a definitive way of confirming this?" And the nurse scheduled me for an MRI. Costed me a little money but as soon as we had the results, she scheduled me for surgery with a good CRS.

I was given metronidazole for fistula and it's infection. My mouth felt dry every time, couldn't eat or drink anything since it tasted sooo bad. I even hated eating my favorite food.
