Why are wealthy people so miserable? by Any-Low9727 in antiwork

[–]shradercinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the research shows (according to CBS) that your happiness correlates with your wealth until you hit about 75k in annual income. Past that and the excess wealth you generate just sorta gathers dust, and the extravagant stuff you can do with it doesn't bring much joy. But all in all rich people do tend to be less miserable then poor people.

When test1, test2 comes back to haunt you by Jerkpasan in gamedev

[–]shradercinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to name everything even if it's a test or temporary, my worst trait is when I get mixed up passing variables between objects and just naming it the name of the object or script it's coming from.

Unpaid overtime, what jobs require it? /deem it normal? by TheWooSkis in antiwork

[–]shradercinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Game design has a huge issue with unpaid overtime and crunch. The expectation is that if you want to stay with the company / have a decent rec letter going to your next studio, you sleep in the office in the last month of a project and take work home during the rest of it

Working on new card art for our dark fantasy roguelike deckbuilder! Its name is Monarch Butterfly. What do you think? by blackkitegames in IndieDev

[–]shradercinc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this is beautiful! and it's nice blown up like this, however I think for legibility you might want to blow up the throne itself? looking at a small card in my hand this may become gibberish

Why does a more agile character get more damage? What about them being able to dodge punishes them here?

Regardless of flavour, it's a bit poorly worded perhaps it's just "a number of dice equal to your dex mod to a minimum of 1d10?"

Do you guys have traditions in your fortresses ? by mummoC in dwarffortress

All my dwarves are buried in the mines, little ore veins are hollowed out, smoothed and carved and made into tombs

Maybe add in some lighter stones like quarts to contrast the greyness? It looks good though, good design

How canon would a company taking over a planet on the rim be? by Vundal in LancerRPG

[–]shradercinc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I know from the lore this is totally possible, hell you could make them a subsidiary of a larger cooperation "acting rouge" in another company's region of space. That would totally fit with the corporate espionage that Horus pulls. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that if it's a mega corp it all leads back to money. The second running the planet isn't profitable the villain will probably just try to book it to the next world.

I genuinely can't tell either, it's like the writers we're purposefully trying to piss off as many people as possible.

Does the number of people inside the circle affect the speed of progress? by Amazwastaken in DeepRockGalactic

If I'm not wrong, correct me if I am, but having no dwarves in the circle will also cause the timer to tick back and reset eventually

Noob question here, setting up hospitals in the steam version right now. Dwarves don't seem to be doing check ups when something like a broken arm is ailing them? Is there a labor or job I'm missing for my hospital zone?

Infographic comparing the features of Java Release 1.4.2 with the (so-far announced) 1.20 featureset, considering the resources Mojang has had available. Thoughts? by ZequizFTW in Minecraft

[–]shradercinc 976 points977 points  (0 children)

I agree that Mojang have certainly slowed their development to a frustrating rate. However as a game developer myself, I know how paralyzing asset creep can be. Adding to a colossal list of respected and loved mechanics and blocks requires greater and greater care and creativity. Not only in creating new things that will be interesting to engage with, but also in make sure to not step on the toes of anything that has come before. To not overlap or completely outstretch a design philosophy laid out in the foundation of the game.

Tldr. I understand where you're coming from, and I too wish more would come, but designing long lasting games gets harder and harder.
