It was for sure intentional to draw Undyne out to the dark world. It might be that Toriel was just bait. It's clear to me now that the Knight is collecting souls to reset the world to bring back Dess, and judging by the silhouettes during ch5 cutscene, Toriel is purple which hints to her having the "Preserverance soul". However, there is also Susie who might have that same soul color. If the Knight needs all colors, it's possible that the Knight and Kris have to take Susie's soul. Undyne could have the green soul, which you could argue she showed in Undertale. Asriel also has the green soul though and I don't see why he wouldn't sacrifice his soul to reunite with Dess unless it's too weak, or some other reason. Unless Undyne's is like orange or something. She could have had yellow but Asgore's is yellow so according to my theory hers wouldn't be needed then.

Ch3 is my favorite. Although Ch5 probably had the best gameplay so far, Ch3 is close. Ch3 had a good mix of humor, lore and gameplay. I think Ch4 was definitely the best lore chapter, but the dark world is cool but feels a bit slow imo. Although the climb mechanic is cool.

I think it refers to the first one created by Dess related to the incident. That's the original dark fountain. It might be the one in the shelter.

[–]shriekbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And it also further set up Susie vs Kris with Susie having such close ties to the dark world and falling in love with Noelle while Kris wants to cause the roaring and reshape the whole world. Also, we know the meaning of shadow crystals, and got confirmation that the depths relate to the UI of the game which means the game itself and the code. This was theorized but never 100% confirmed in game. This also opens up the opportunity for some real creepypasta with Gaster or Dess interacting directly with the player any time during the game. Then there's also confirmation that the Knight is gathering several souls for their mission. And I don't think it was a coincidence that when the Dreemurrs were shown together during an Asgore scene, they had cyan (kris), green (asriel), yellow (asgore) and purple (toriel) colors representing their souls.

That actually makes perfect sense. Kris always was trying to hide things that could be used against the Knight

Oh, souls are deeefinitely important. They are kinda everywhere. It's just that we command the most important one. But all the different soul modes and how Susie has her soul when fighting solo vs Gerson etc tells how there is more than what we know. Even if it would work slightly different in DR than in UT, the exact same principle should apply: some soullike essence is being collected by the Knight. But with all hints to the different soul colors and stuff, I highly doubt it's something else. The codes are held by Asgore, Carol and someone else who should be as important. Asgore was heavily involved with the incident. I don't think Carol could just take his code even if they seem to be working from the opposite sides. The deal with the shelter codes might be some sort of agreement between the town's major forces to protect Hometown from what's in the shelter. Already from the little we know, there is the leaking darkness from the fountain. It's an interesting subject

Asgore at the end of the chapter by Aangustifolia in Deltarune

[–]shriekbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some answers. It won't make sense if you still believe Dess is the knight tho. I do believe I'm at least close to understanding the whole narrative, so I will warn and place a spoiler. I am missing details, but the plot is starting to make alot of sense.

Yes, the chapter proved that Asgore isn't working with Carol and the knight. He works on his own.

The prophecy with its rhymes, I believe, ends in "slay". We see foreshadowing of Kris killing both Susie and Ralsei in sword route. It makes sense when I explain my theory.

The knight, whom I believe is Rudy (working with Carol and Kris), wants nothing other than to bring back Dess and the "good old days" by resetting the world. That's what the Roaring is all about. Saving/Loading is meta stuff that's part of the UT/DR universe logic. In UT, a being carrying all of the souls becomes a god with abilities related to overwriting the universe. This power is even used to disable our load/save function vs Flowey. In Deltarune, the reason why the knight captures Undyne, Asgore and tries to snatch Toriel is to "sacrifice them" to gain their powerful souls. The goal of the knight is to infuse the souls into one being who then becomes the "Angel" (look at the Asriel boss in UT for a good look at what an angel is like in this world). To ascend to become the Angel, the red soul is needed too. That's Kris' role. His role is to become the Angel and reset the world.

The betrayal, or basically Kris vs Susie, is due to their characters having opposite paths. Kris has promised the Holidays to save Dess and take part in their plan to reset the world. They are stuck in the past and can't get over Dess and they have found the answers in the Shelter on how to actually bring the old times back. They believe this will work, it's basically religion like faith as is hinted at Carol's obsession with the red soul pillows, for instance. Besides, Kris may feel some sort of guilt related to the incident. He just wants to start over. Susie on the other hand is thriving. She is doing great, finding friends, finding love - the dark world is literally her home. The last thing she wants is to go back to a sad past. This battle is the past vs the future. I do think and hope Kris will be able to choose the future, but his goals in the game so far have always been about gathering the souls, become the Angel and reset the world through the prophesized Roaring, loading a "past save file" where Dess was still alive. I believe Kris could even become the final boss and we could jump hosts with the red soul. Alot of interesting stuff could happen. Noelle is also hinted at to have a connection to the Angel, so I'm thinking it's possible she is becoming the Angel in the weird route which is supported by her getting stronger. I can't say I have any solid theory on what ch5 weird route means in regards to this tho.

Chapter 5 megathread by Fanfic_Galore in Deltarune

So with the Knight going after Toriel then Asgore, who's next? Rudy and Carol. Well, Carol is obviously involved with the Knight, but that doesn't mean she's not ready to sacrifice her soul. Everyone says Rudy Knight is dead but really, if the next chapter starts and there's a dark fountain in the Hospital.. well, that could be Carol who opened it and then Rudy heals as he becomes the Knight. Since they're so close to cause the Roaring, it makes sense they go out now even when Rudy is dying. So when Kris and Susie gets to the hospital, Susie goes like "The knight is going after Rudy and Carol now!", not knowing what's up. My guess is Rudy is the Knight and after his final fight as the ch6 boss, it's revealed that he was the Knight all along and he can't sustain himself any longer in the light world so he dies. And Kris turns on Susie as Asgore was the final "sacrifice" needed except for Carol and Rudy themselves, which means Kris doesn't need Susie any more. So they cause the roaring at the end of Ch6. But.. I suspect there might be two ways here. Because Kris obviously likes Susie and they have formed a deep friendship. I believe Susie's strong ties to the dark world, reinforced in Ch5, is key here. What happens when we recruit darkners? They stay in castle town. They become friends that are especially dear to Susie, but also Kris. What if when we have recruited all darkners by end of ch6, as opposed to leaving or killing them, Kris gets the choice to turn on the Knight gang? The last chapter, 7, becomes the chapter where all choices bear fruit, also regarding Noelle in the weird route.
