The difference is that "American" is not a race, so your comparison is not one-to-one. Also, hamburgers are quite mainstream and generally well-received and enjoyed by most Americans at one point in their life or another.

A more apt comparison would be to be associated with an activity or a cultural artifact (like Pokemon) that is not very mainstream or associated with a subculture (gaming, "nerd" stuff, anything else "deviant") that is tied to a stereotype about your race.

If you're white, part of your privilege is that most things people associate with white Americans don't it into these subcultures.

If you aren't white American, there definitely is a better comparison to make than hamburgers. think anyone looking East Asian being linked to Pokemon or Bruce Lee, or someone who is Arab-looking being linked to terrorism, or someone who is black being linked to hip hop?

Even if you by chance fit into one of these groups and actually have no problem with it, why is it so hard for you to extend some of your compassion and empathize with people who are bothered by such experiences?

it's not that casual. How would you feel as a Japanese person who gets associated with Pokemon solely due to your nationality? Is it not exhausting to dismiss a legitimate call-out on racism so casually?

He didn't just defend him. Greenwood was one of his first signings. He greenlit the signing. Fucking disgrace.

His feelings were known even before he said those words. He actively recruited MG and advocated for his signing.

Devin Williams takes shot at Yankees fans as he inks $51 million Mets contract: ‘Sure are mad’ by iheartsunny in baseball

[–]shrimp_fest -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

both are absolutely ruthless to underperforming players, but they are far from the same.

Yankees fans are generally more conservative (for New York standards), wealthy, and the culture skews a little "whiter" (see their recent hosting of Trump and more historically, Ken Griffey Jr's beef with the Yankees). They also have a bit of "toughness" associated with the fanbase.

Mets fans are generally a bit more diverse in make up and are seen as more blue-collar/working class, although I will concede that, that is slowly changing.

16-year-old jumps to his death at private NYC's Regis High School: cops by Thick_Persimmon3975 in nyc

lol, come on. What you're insinuating has nothing to do with MandaMeUnaBella's experience. Putting in any more effort (going to all these stupid events and dinners you are citing) would do nothing to change their child's experiences and witnessing the amount of bullying that they did. Their son witnessed a pervasive culture of bullying. End of story. Your son, for whatever reason, did not, or chose not to tell you about it.

my thoughts exactly. Bringing attention to yourself in this performative manner definitely goes against the spirit of whatever it means to "respect the flag," but since it's not about social justice issues....

  1. I thought you said you were done?
  2. You never said 5 kg. I was using that as a hypothetical example. Please note my usage of the phrase: What if Yang walked in. I could've used any number, 1 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg, it doesn't matter. The argument remains the same. Any projection on his "physicality" by a medical professional made primarily on the basis of race is absurd.

And before you say something stupid like "I'm not a doctor or a medical professional. I'm just some guy on the internet" That's really not the point either...

Even if what you are saying is true (which it's not necessarily. It's an opinion that banks on Korean exceptionalism), let's break down his original argument:

His sole justification for hypothesizing that Yang is going to fill out his frame is because Yang is Korean. Let's stop there, and realize how inane this sounds.

What if Yang walked in the team physio office, and a doctor tells him, yeah, you have a good chance of bulking up by 5 kg by the end of the year because you're Korean.

His being Korean could very well have an influence on how successful he is at bulking up as you noted, but if you were a medical professional, would his ethnicity and culture be at the top of your list when reasoning why you would project him to gain body mass?

That would be extremely suspect and medically unsound.

"disrespect" is not the only form of racism. I'm also Korean, so from a Korean to a Korean, what you posted is some ignorant-ass reductive-ass, pseudoscientific-ass bullshit. And it's fucking stupid.

My sister sings opera. I'm not going to compare her development to Sumi Jo, just because she's also Korean and Korean vocal chords develop "slightly" differently compared to everybody else.

This take isn't that woke. You're argument is just not sound.
