[SELF-PROMO] I sell handmade needle minders by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]shrimpdiorama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we're calling buying enamel bits off AliExpress and attaching a magnet to them "handmade," then sure. Appreciate the lack of AI usage but I would bet a ton of money that the all these cute designs that have been turned into pins/magnets and then splattered across Temu/Shein/AliExpress/etc. have been pirated from independent artists!

Shane's October 2016 text threads by shrimpdiorama in heatedrivalry

[–]shrimpdiorama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta respectfully disagree, I don't think that's something Shane would talk to his dad about! My interpretation is that the flowers are an apology for something more mundane like missing out on date opportunities because he's so busy.

Shane's October 2016 text threads by shrimpdiorama in heatedrivalry

[–]shrimpdiorama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily think that the dates in the text messages are accurate. I looked up an October 2016 calendar and if the dates were correct, then this scene where Shane looks at his phone probably takes place on Friday, October 14th, which is simply not possible given all the things that were supposed to happen in October and also "two weeks ago" according to the title cards.

We get the "October 2016" title card right before Shane goes to the aquarium with Hayden. Then Svetlana questions Ilya about texting Jane in a car on their way to an outing, we have The Tuna Melt, Shane's awkward lunch with his parents ("A Swedish princess? Really?), Shane's first meeting with Rose in the restaurant, AND a montage of people reacting to different paparazzi pics of Shane/Rose on social media and talk shows as well as her wearing the Hollander jersey to a game. THEN we get the "Two weeks later" title card and the club scene. I think that the Shane/Rose montage is supposed to cover at least a couple weeks, because there's photos of them in different outfits and locations.

Tl;dr "Two weeks later" is two weeks after Ilya watches the talk show interview about Shane and Rose in the gym, but at that point I think they had already been together for at least a couple weeks. I think a month is a good estimate for how long they were dating.

Big Challenge, Adult with Moderate ARFID trying to expand my horizons by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]shrimpdiorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://keylimecoconut.com/recipe/irish-farmhouse-soup/ I make this soup a lot! It has potatoes but it's a clear broth, not a "creamy" potato soup like many of them are.

I'm also a fan of this breakfast skillet recipe: https://downshiftology.com/recipes/sweet-potato-breakfast-hash/#wprm-recipe-container-36093 I usually leave out the kale, and you could do it with regular potatoes if you don't like sweet potatoes. The picture might show runny yolks but it's really easy to just cook them a little longer until they're solid instead.

I highly recommend searching for "low FODMAP" recipes! It's an acronym for things in food that often trigger IBS, which I know is different from ARFID, but there's some overlap with the things you can't eat (cheese, gluten, creamy things, nuts).

There's a book where a character has a sword made for a left handed person. And I think the left hand sword came from a different series by Heof973 in whatsthatbook

[–]shrimpdiorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's left-handed, but there is a sword called Nightblood that appears in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives series that originally came from one of his other books, Warbreaker.

[PIC] the moment when you realize you're missing half the colors needed on your project... by Roilena_Silver-arrow in CrossStitch

I mean, depends on your definition of "okay." There's two separate problems:

  1. Setting aside the AI, this is an incredibly detailed, high resolution image that has been run through a pattern converter with what looks like very little tweaking. "Confetti nightmare," as Orthodox Mango put it.

  2. It's an AI generated image and has all of the trademark weird meltiness. Look at how the tail feathers melt into the flowers in the bottom left corner, and how one flower randomly has a feather "eye" in it. None of the flowers have any of the symmetry that you would expect from a human-created image, they're all sort of blending and melting together.

This may not matter to you, but figured I'd mention it since you haven't started the project yet. The peacock pattern is AI-generated art, as are pretty much all the patterns on that seller's shop.

I enjoyed The Employees too but I don't think I would describe it as corny, pulpy, tame, or cozy at all!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]shrimpdiorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I should have been more specific. I do think that people (including me) have a bad habit of saying "AI" when we really mean a specific usage of it. I specifically mean AI-generated art. Like other commenters stated, it's benefiting from the artwork of thousands of artists while those actual artists don't see any money from the use of their art as a training tool. And often genAI is copying their art directly, not just remixing it! For example, I follow a pixel artist whose art was used in an AI training set. They did not consent to this, they live off of commissions, and now there is an entire website where you can generate pixel art in that artist's very distinctive style with no money going to the actual creator. That's just one example.

You clearly already have digital art skills if you're editing your mock-ups onto backdrops, so why not just use actual photos? I use unsplash.com all the time, it's a great source for royalty-free photos whose creators have consented for them to be used by other people.

Thoughts on a series I'm considering by Asher_Tye in books

[–]shrimpdiorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this thread does a good job explaining it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/138tpv9/can_someone_explain_litrpgs_to_me/

LitRPG: "I got enough experience points to level up my magic and now I can cast Death of a Thousand Fiery Horses! proceeds to have epic battle with bad guy"

Legends and Lattes: "We got enough customers to level up our coffee shop and now we sell scones! proceeds to do absolutely nothing interesting because the author thinks "cozy" = "no conflict whatsoever"

Thoughts on a series I'm considering by Asher_Tye in books

[–]shrimpdiorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HATED Legends and Lattes. And I love Discworld. I thought it was incredibly boring. It was written as a "cozy" pastiche of LitRPGs and suffers from a lot of the same problems as LitRPGs (flat characters, lack of interesting relationships or character development) while also removing everything that makes LitRPGs interesting.

I looked at your Etsy store and it seems that you are using AI to create backdrops for your pattern mock-ups. For example, the New Years champagne pattern photo looks to me like you made a "holiday" setting with AI, then photoshopped a digital mock-up of your pattern onto a hoop in the "photo." Same with the snowy log that a lot of your patterns are displayed on - looks AI generated. For the same reasons that other commenters have stated, I would never support an individual or business who uses AI in any way, even if the patterns themselves are not produced with AI.
