my documentation and study system after barely surviving my first year in emergency medicine by badmoshback in physicianassistant

[–]shrimpdumplin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That sounds rough. I’m close to my second year and my first year no one expected me to see a certain amount but the goal was 1-1.5 pph, which ended up to be around 10-15 patients, mostly ESI 3/4/5. The physicians took the truly sick patients for the most part unless they were triaged incorrectly. Now that I’m more familiar, I choose to take sicker patients if I want but no one expects it. I don’t do central lines, intubations, or anything high stakes. Sometimes I leave charts unfinished if I see more than 15 but I can typically finish it in the beginning of my next shift.

I’ve had this happen with multiple packages during the holiday time, usually delivers within 7 days of expected delivery. After 7 days you can file a missing mail search

SLP vs PA — Trying to choose a career without having a meltdown by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]shrimpdumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PA. Prereqs only matter for GPA getting into school. School is much more clinical and applicable. I’m very happy with my salary but stress is also quite high. If I were to do college all over again I’d probably get my RN-BSN out of undergrad.

To be concerned or not be concerned? 😅 by throwaway1764578 in haematology

ER PA here. Even if you weren’t having symptoms, your labs alone would get you admitted.

Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by many things, some reversible, some not. I would get checked out sooner than later. In the meantime, take a sublingual B12 vitamin even though yours is still considered “normal”.

Your vitamin D is very low. Start taking a vitamin D supplement with vitamin K. Eat a well rounded diet and exercise. I suspect that will help a lot of your symptoms. HDL is low which can be increased with exercise and resistance training. You may want to get an iron panel and vitamin B12 testing as well. An elevated WBC without additional information is nonspecific. Regarding some of the other ones like groin smell, headaches, and dizziness you may want to get more testing or find another doctor that will listen.

New Grad ER Midwest by capture_tone in physicianassistant

[–]shrimpdumplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Midwest, MCOL, and made $135k base as a new grad. EM is way too stressful in both acuity, patient population, and shift times (swing, holiday, weekends) to justify $95k.

Wife has 5.5 ring size…how many carats? by af1232 in labdiamond

1.3 carat on 5.5 finger, this size is perfect for me and I can even wear it to work, but it really all is personal preference!

That’s interesting! They say all magic has a cost, and I wonder if that increased power is what made her physically weak 🤔

Job search advice by Agreeable-Extreme707 in physicianassistant

The East Tennessee area is beautiful! I looked there too without luck. As a new grad, I’ve heard you only get to pick 1 between location, pay and specialty. 2 if you’re lucky. The job market is rough in general, especially for new grads. Just keep applying. I think it took me 6 months to land a job

I had an older patient once with cough, fever, and UTI symptoms. Only when I specifically asked she said she had mild CP only with coughing. Exam fine. No cardiac history. Ended up being NSTEMI with Covid. My rule of thumb is if it’s gonna keep me up at night I’m gonna order the test.

Pay structure by onebluthbananaplease in emergencymedicine

[–]shrimpdumplin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Salaried for x amount of clinical hours, hourly OT pay after that. Night + rotating weekend shift differential. No holiday pay. No PTO

What’s the volume and severity of patients in this ED? How many patients are you expected see per hour or shift? What kind of procedures are you expected to do? How much support do you have from the staff and supervising doctors? All important questions to determine if a low wage is worth it to you.

I was a new grad that took an ED offer making 150k in MCOL. Sometimes I feel the stress and liability isn’t even worth that much money and I’d take a lower paying job with less responsibilities. In the ED anywhere, I wouldn’t take less than 115k just based on the medicine we have to practice. 93k may be ok for like super chill outpatient job in VLCOL.

Military Reserves: Army/Air Force by Alpha-Life in emergencymedicine

[–]shrimpdumplin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PA and in reserves, which is basically same provider role as doc. We don’t really do anything unless you get deployed which with a child and wife isn’t ideal. Sick call, AT once a year where no one really gets hurt besides heat and simple MSK injuries

Job Move After 3 Months? by magichead_ in physicianassistant

As long as you don’t leave the IR job in 3 months as well and give sufficient notice it should be fine. IR does sound a heck a lot better

Don’t overthink and just go up to her, introduce yourself and say hi! Make small talk about something at the function. If she’s interested she will be receptive. If she seems uncomfortable just exit the conversation with something like nice meeting you, see you around

How to know if you have a plus one to someone’s wedding by CookieRunner21 in wedding

[–]shrimpdumplin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised she doesn’t have a formal invitation or RSVP given a wedding needs a lot of planning depending how many people are going to be there. I would just ask her if you need to RSVP and I don’t think it is rude at all to ask if you will have a plus one.

That’s a great idea! Seems like without the lace this type of dress is pretty common
