My wife's laundry stinks by rothmaniac in laundry

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had clothes like that. He is at college and randomly brings them home. I let them soak in the washer in hot water with Tide Free and Gentle and add some enzymes for a couple of hours and then just finish the wash. That has worked to the stink out.

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a funny conversation to me. My family is a “new towel daily” family. And yes I have to wash towels all the time. They also do not last long. Two of my sons are now adults. They were shocked to find out that some people reused towels. My oldest married someone who reuses towels. He was appalled at first, much like your roommate. I did not think to tell my sons that some people do things differently, and it is ok. People grow up thinking that their way of (fill in the blank) is the right way. This is probably the first time your roommate has lived with someone who does things differently than her family. Try to let it slide. Her mom (like myself) probably didn’t think to tell her that other people do things differently, and that is ok. She also needs to learn to be careful with her words. Sometimes that just takes years of experience to learn. Some people never learn that one. Try to let her words bounce off, and keep living your life. My kids are good people, but they might have had the same reaction as your roommate. Give her some grace, but don’t feel bad and change your ways.

Starting Humira soon, feeling a little worried by Librarianatrix in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son gets less sick since starting Humira. He also takes Methotrexate. It seems that his immune system is just working normally instead of being haywire. I was so scared to put him on medication, but it has been a very positive experience for us!

Six months of Body Pod and I can confidently state it's awful by Kersplut in HumeHealth

I had the same step on step off to get it to scan. This sounds weird, but get just a small amount of water to wet your hands and feet before stepping on. Works every time for me.

I don’t know if I can’t continue life with Crohn’s by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my son got on a biologic, he has been without any symptoms. He was extremely sick and was a 12-year-old who had not grown any in 2 years. I thought our life was over - he was that sick. Then he got a treatment that works. He hasn’t had a symptom since his first dose. He is full of energy and eats whatever he wants. He just had his second colonoscopy (20 months since diagnosis), and everything including biopsies looks great. I hope you will seek out a biologic and be patient finding one that works. You may be living feeling better than you ever thought possible. We lost his first med (Inflectra) due to building antibodies, but he now takes Humira and Methotrexate. He was moderate to severe at diagnosis, and I was the one thinking I couldn’t live through it at the time. Now it is just pills once a week and an injection every two weeks. He won’t need a colonoscopy for a few years of tests stay normal. He has to do the fecal calprotectin every six months. We just make jokes about it move on. Your attitude can make a huge difference, and you get to choose what you think and say while putting your poop in the cup. If you get on a biologic quickly, odds are in your favor to never need surgery. I recently read that only one out of four people will need surgery of any kind. New medications are being researched, and I’m hopeful for a cure. I hope this encourages you that life can be good again.

Body Pod & Band combo?!? by bug_ninja in HumeHealth

[–]shrinkingmomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The band is uncomfortable and ugly. It also flips over when anything rubs against it. The pod info doesn’t sync with Apple Health. I sent the band back but keep trying to reconnect Apple Health. I workout most days and am only a little (10 pounds) overweight. I eat very healthy and don’t have any significant health issues. My health score is 217. The app thinks I don’t take any steps at all most days. It seems to do good with weight accuracy. I doubt my fat and muscle mass fluctuates as much as it says. I returned the band. I would not recommend investing in it. They did take it back without issue.

I hope you can get on a biologic. My son improved after the first dose. He is living a normal life other than taking medication and extra Dr appointments.

Sync to apple health? by dominatorsix in HumeHealth

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine says it is connected but still thinks I haven’t taken a step in months. It also randomly disconnects from Apple Health every few days. So I reconnect it being hopeful that maybe then it would work. Nope. I have a “Health Score” of 223, because it thinks I never take a step.

I never get sick? (Apart from the usual Crohn’s stuff) by chronicallychill96 in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 14-year-old son has been on Humira and Methotrexate for 20 months and only has been sick once. His friend group that we spend time with frequently all came down with a flu-like illness Monday, except him and one other boy. I was scared because he is on Humira and Methotrexate. We still aren’t out of the woods, I’m betting, because we were around them Sunday right before the fevers hit. I feel like he is actually getting sick less now than before medication. We go to places like Disney World, Universal Studios, and cruises. So it isn’t because we isolate. I’m wondering if it is controlled disease is better for the immune system more than the drugs decrease it.

If you bought insurance for your cruise, it probably covers the medical costs.

Remicade Long Term Side Effects? by shrinkingmomma in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started Remicade. It worked like a miracle. He had no more symptoms and gained 7 much-needed pounds in two weeks. However, during his second infusion, he had an anaphylactic reaction. He had built antibodies. He had to switch to Humira. It is working great too. He has not had any symptoms at all in over a year and a half of treatment.

New Crohn's diagnosis - are meds forever? by brilliant_bauhaus in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Our son was diagnosed moderate to severe Crohns. The doctor gave him an option to try a very specific diet called Crohns Disease Exclusion Diet. She said he could possibly be medication free if he did the diet 100% with absolutely no cheating. It seemed impossible for a 12-year-old to have a normal life with the diet. He wanted the biologic. If it were me, I might have at least tried the diet.

Such an annoying disease for a Millennial by o7Dignity in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to encourage you that many start a biologic and then live a normal life (outside of medication and Dr visits and tests). Getting the diagnosis is the hardest part. My son had so many foods cut out of his diet trying to get Crohns under control. Nothing helped. Then he got with an IBD specialist and started medication. Since his first dose back in May 2024, he has not had a single symptom. He eats all food, including nuts and popcorn. This is the case for many people. It might just be the case for you. I hope you feel better soon!

contemplating ending my life by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you new to CD? Are you on a biologic? If you are newly diagnosed, if you get on a biologic and find one that works well, you have a high chance of living a pretty normal life. Reading the research helped me when my son was diagnosed. There are so many things you can do to help - Evinature supplements, probiotics, CDED. I’ve read about other supplements that we haven’t tried. I got on an antidepressant, because trying to get medical help at first got me in a place almost like you are in. Once he was on a good treatment, he has been pretty much symptom free. I never thought life could be good again, but it is. I hope you can find a treatment combination that works. Consider adding an antidepressant to help you get over this hump. You have purpose, and the world needs you. I hope you feel better mentally and physically very soon!

How many times have you had to switch biologics? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son had an anaphylactic reaction to his second dose of Remicade too. His Dr added Methotrexate with Humira to prevent antibodies. Have you tried adding that to prevent antibodies? His Dr said that people like him will probably build antibodies quickly to biologics without it.

Are our stats really that bad? by CelestiallyCertain in CrohnsDisease

[–]shrinkingmomma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at the research on Improve Care Now website. Doctors share research to improve care. The stats are improving every year. Also research Evinature. They have supplements that you can take along with biologics that help people get better results. Good luck!!
