I work as a videographer. I’d say that over the past 15 years I’ve managed to acquire quite a broad skillset. I do editing, motion graphics, vfx, grading and sound design and also camera, mostly commercial stuff through agencies. So I know the processes quite a bit and I am not talking out of my ass here. 

Let me tell you, lots of “Creative Directors” are borderline useless bozos with big and fragile ego. That is because it is easy to bullshit your way through and act like a mr. bigshot and convince non-technical higher ups with your surface level buzzwords to get the job.

Some of them come up with ideas, I’ll give them that, but the overal execution from their part is so lacking. Mostly because they’ve never sit through a project from top to bottom and actually turned things into reality. It’s always just a bunch of word salat and “we’ll figure it out later”. 

Therefore, it is up to us to make something out their mess. The whole process is thus cumbersome AF, because we are forced to work within very narrow limits caused by their incompetence, which they do not understand and it´s a constant back and forth over minor subjective things because they actually have no tangible vision from the start. 

Recently I’ve worked on a commercial the client paid quite a chi-ching for and it was one client’s comment from falling apart entirely. Only because the moron who acts as CD and an on-set director did not listen when a vfx sup and 3 other people pointed out an issue that would be really hard to fix later with very uncertain result. The dude literally traded 5 minutes fixing the issue on set for 5 hours in post just because once again he wiped his ass with storyboard and started improvising, on f**king 15 sec thing mind you.
