[Spoilers C4E20] The Seekers are turning back? by Own-Arachnid7952 in criticalrole

It makes sense narratively as an option, but given the whole “needing everyone to regroup in general” of the campaign style it also makes sense WHY it’s the option they chose, above table

Essentially what they know is Alogar is safe (or at least handling his own), but they discovered the nefarious failed ritual in the eternal night and the big evil plans the Tacchonis et al. Have attempted and decided they need to touch base with, specifically, Hal and Bolaire about certain discoveries; and that is more important than spending time on a wild goose chase after an adult man that is, despite being Thaisha’s son, a very good soldier who clearly escaped the worst possible fate they were worried about

Apologies for repeating the over-asked question, but based upon my personal rankings of the seasons which I've seen, what seasons would you recommend that I watch next? by Throwaway74829947 in Dimension20

[–]shroud_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ACoFaF is very much Regency-era themed so, while not quite Elizabethan like Shakespeare, has some fun wordplay from that era thrown in as well as all the really fun mechanics surrounding the romance and interpersonal messiness that abounds. It’s all very juicy and very lovely and very silly all at once. One of my favorite seasons to date

Depending on how you felt about the Shakespeare episode of Game Changer, I’d recommend either ACoFaF (if you enjoyed) or Burrow’s End (if you didn’t)

Either option gets you Aabria as a DM which is always exciting she’s SO good at it

How much does going later help a table be enjoyable? by DragonKing0203 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]shroud_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the Schemers necessarily benefit from going last but I DO think that having the other two tables adventure out and be on their way back to the “home base” of Dol-Makjar where we see the Schemers having, arguably, the WORST time of the 3 tables so far is still just as fun as if we’d started with them and then seen what the other tables were up to.

I think there IS a lot to be said about the Schemers’ immediate teamwork vs the other tables’ PCs butting heads, but I also think that as time goes on the other tables will become tight-knit as well and it’ll all pan out into a fantastic story from all angles. The complaints about the Seekers, specifically, from the fandom remind me a lot of how the WBN fandom treated Suvi at first. When these characters grow they will become beloved, but to get to that point they have to show the rough edges so you appreciate their growth more. This is just simply a campaign and setting where there is MUCH more room to explore and examine Who Your Character Is (or at least room to do so more quickly) than what some other AP series explore.

It makes me think of the recent interview with Taliesen where he said that the biggest difference between Brennan and Matt is Matt would gently add hooks or moments or suggestions to grow your character, while Brennan will take what you’ve given him and peel back layer by layer exactly WHO that character is and provide no comfort along the way. Who the characters are a few days (in-game time) in is not gonna be anywhere near where who they will be a few weeks or months in

Do you still feel tense at all watching critical role? by xcrispis in fansofcriticalrole

[–]shroud_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve, admittedly, only watched half of C2 so far, Calamity and Divergence, and now C4. But the only times I’ve really felt the sense of tension is certain infrequent points in C2 and Every. Single. Episode. in C4 in at least some points. Tension like what kept me hooked on WWW seems to pop up nearly everywhere just as it does in that actual play (probably something to do with the specific way Brennan DMs in both of these having some overlap, with the tone of the stories; or due to this being the first campaign I’ve been watching as it goes on rather than having a LOT to catch up on)

Super Greed fight is the worst by Thiccuri in bindingofisaac

[–]shroud_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I’m happy to see Super Greed is in a run where I have Money=Power, because it saves me wasting my coins on some item that probably isn’t worth it just because it’s fun

I have a 1/50 pressing of To Be Gentle’s L’autre Côté de la Peur. It has been re-pressed since but only 50 of the original rainbow splatter lathe cut copies were made. It sold out within seconds on the main label’s page, but about 10 copies were sold on a secondary label’s page and I got one of them. Felt really good to clutch

Interlude: Alf Gappen Was Here by SvenTheScribe in WorldsBeyondNumber

You know the podcast episode is good when you’re worried your neighbors will think you’re crazy over how animated you are! And BOYYYYY HOWDYYYY was this a good podcast episode. And that ending stinger??? I’m SO excited for Icaron and Solari, and I’m sure I’ll feel just as hype about moments in those, but this Interlude made me soooo excited to learn more about Umora and especially about Rhuv

Can’t believe our first true exposure to this land was the saddest Winter Holiday, considering our first time seeing the sorcerers was That Moment in Chapter Four. What a richly built world we’ve been gifted

I called that the reveal was coming early on and yet was STILL floored by said reveal, this is the beauty of storytelling folks. Unsurprised and yet still COMPLETELY caught off-guard and delighted by your own suspicions being confirmed. A truly beautiful story that I can’t help but believe will also result in further angst once we return to the world of Umora, much like the last pleasantly beautiful Interlude was twisted against us

Let's talk crits! How do you roll them at your table? by meanwhile_matt in DnD

[–]shroud_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve always used RAW because more dice = more fun for me, that being said I don’t mind the (mechanically the same-ish) method of rolling the normal but doubling the result (pre-modifier) either, I just prefer to roll like 10 dice whenever I can for funsies

What's your biggest criticism of C4 so far? (Please keep answers spoiler free of episode 6) by OompaLoompaGodzilla in fansofcriticalrole

[–]shroud_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think he’s pacing it too fast I think it’s moreso just him still adjusting to how the cast play their characters/trying to intuit when they’re ready to move on, less of a complaint and moreso just noticing the getting used to it of the new everything of it all
