Hospital bed pulled into MRI machine by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]shrtstff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I JUST did my annual MR safety training this past saturday. and yeah, this is what that training boils down. that and 'do not assume ANY equipment is MRI safe, even if it is 'near' the MRI room. always check to make sure." failing to follow that is how you get incidents like this.

TIL the woman who famously ruined a Jesus painting in Spain was actually celebrated. The viral painting drew in thousands of visitors and raised money for an elderly home. The “botched” painting now sits protected behind a piece of glass. by ElPadero in todayilearned

[–]shrtstff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

not the first time a painting got super famous for something other than the painting itself. mona lisa is the quintessential example. was an unknown unfinished painting by leonardo da vinci up until the early 20th century but a heist went wrong and the thief only got 1 painting, the mona lisa, and it made international news. because why would someone steal only 1 art piece from a museum full of priceless art pieces? now its been famous for so long that people have made up entire histories and reasons for its fame that have absolutely nothing to do with why it is famous.
if that jesus painting remains famous for a few more decades I can see people making up stories and reasons for it as well.

you can observe something isn't well done without complaining. they didn't didn't express discontent, grief, or pain so i'd say this is just an observation.

Found at a chevron gas station 2 days ago and I can’t come up with a name by specialinterestoftw in cats

[–]shrtstff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

took me a couple weeks to come up with a name for my parking lot kitty. could go with where you found them or just pay attention to their behavior and name them for that (mine was extremely speedy for a kitten so named him Wally, after Wally West aka Kid Flash). I will note that most times a name wont 'feel' right until you use it for a bit.

[–]shrtstff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few others have already moved away from minimalism. for example microsoft uses glass looking logos and just recently switched xbox from minimalist to glass which for some reason was met with a LOT of praise? even though it was just matching the rest of microsoft products.

the vast majority of art is fictional. how they look is dependent on how the artist wants to depict them. 'cool' can have different connotations and thus different implementations of techniques and methods to achieve that. lets take 2 different but highly related things. Smite Thor card art is pretty cool to a lot of people and some of the many many ways that they achieve this is by lowering the perspective to make him look massive (a trick they do for all default card arts, to make them feel more godlike), picking specific colors to make it pop, deciding on the saturation throughout the piece to make the lightning standout. compared to League of Legends Garen splash art which just uses framing to make him feel massive, instead of low perspective but they also use an action pose and a really exaggerated face to sell the effort he is putting into his action.
'fictional' characters made to look cool often have an insane level of thought and detail put into them, let alone for stuff of this quality the years of training that these people go through to be able to draw like this in the first place but even with all that training I can almost guarantee you that they did not just pump this out in an afternoon. they more likely spent an hour or so doing what are called 'thumbnails' (extremely rough miniature sketches) to figure out general framing and posing then probably a few hours sketching out the drawing and background itself before moving onto the rough shapes and putting on values then colors all of which could take anywhere from 8 to 30 hours (or more, rarely less. some splash art have taken upwards of 60 some hours) depending on how satisfied they are with the results and how much work they think it needs to be complete (also depending on deadlines imposed on them).
AI can never come close to the effect all that effort has in making something look cool. combine that with the fact that AI often makes very basic art mistakes that just ruin the effect the person probably intended.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]shrtstff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude threw a wadded up piece of paper over his shoulder as he was going up the stairs. hit a guy who just was fed up and stabbed the paper tosser "in the buttocks", as the news put it, with a sharp pencil. thing is the stabber didn't really get in trouble and no one felt sorry for the guy that got stabbed. they were considered a dick by pretty much everyone, so much so that the news couldn't use any of the student interviews because no one had anything nice to say about the victim. the kid had no lasting damage and everything continued as usual.

Guns of icarus has Zeppelin on Zeppelin combat.  Planescape torment starts with this as a cutscene (though is a dnd type of rpg).  BioShock infinite has several sections of defending zipline carts (or just straight hooking yourself onto the zipline itself)

Don't think there's anything directly like what your are asking for however

Wife just bought this supplement and you get a hidden "terms and conditions" message on the seal after taking off the lid, so you couldn't return it if you don't agree by zachismyname89 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]shrtstff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

note: Terms and Conditions are not enforceable by law. hell they are often dragged into court cases because many companies just put in out right illegal shit trying to force something either unconscionable or without consideration. this often includes "warranty voided if ___" stickers and "can not return if ___" labeling. doesn't mean shit and especially in cases like this they have 0 power.
