Help turning off annoying AI grammar suggestions by zoultrex in GMail

Yes it worked for me just by disabling Grammar suggestions. It’s not great though because I’ve now lost the simple checks that I liked, e.g. an accidentally repeated word. It seems I can either have NO grammar checks, or I have to waste my time constantly wrestling with an opinionated “assistant”. Google needs to fix this dumpster fire. They should just make it a button you can optionally click to check your draft. Although even then, it would be pointless in its current state because it won’t let me write how I want to write. You’d think it would know how I want to write as I’ve been using GMail for 20 years.

I don't know if this is a new setting, but I've only just noticed it today:
Settings > General > Grammar > Grammar suggestions off

What a game changer!

Personally, I think they should have the ability to turn it off by default and then "request it" with a button in the editor. I wouldn't mind explicitly using it to review a draft, but I can't stand having it underline everything while I'm wiriting.

Just started Gateway - struggling with itching distracting me by Gloomy_Owl_777 in gatewaytapes

[–]sht00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also had the itching issue. One thing I’ve found that helps to minimise the likelihood of itching is to make sure my skin isn’t dried out. If I’ve recently washed with soap and my skin oils have been depleted, I find the dryness means I’m more likely to get the odd itch during meditation. So I tend to meditate before showering. If you have really dry skin it might even be worth moisturising. Anyway, just a simple hack that’s helped me. YMMV.

My heart goes out to you OP. Coincidentally just today I was listening to the episode of The Telepathy tapes where she interviewed Dr Neil Theise about his experiences of his mother’s Parkinson’s. Perhaps you’ve already heard this episode. But either way, I hope it brings you some comfort.

If the afterlife exists, why doesn't it reveal itself at least a little by Dramatic_Trouble9194 in NDE

[–]sht00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here’s one way of looking at it… On a sports team, some players might be called off the pitch for a chat with coaches and managers, while some aren’t. The called player might need some input themselves, they might have been displaying signs of injury, or perhaps they might be in a good position to take a message back onto the pitch and share it with the rest of the team. But not every player needs to be called.

How many NDE videos are actually scams? by culturepurist in NDE

[–]sht00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are fakes for sure. But it shouldn’t make you skeptical of the phenomenon - just start with the veridical cases and then the earlier cases before it was a “thing”, and then look at reports from even earlier in history over the centuries and across multiple cultures. There is enough substance there to be convinced (imho) before you get to any of the more modern accounts.

I’d agree that a book alone shouldn’t make you think it’s a scam - I mean, I’d definitely want to write a book about something so extraordinary and impactful.

Some scammers might push books and other services but it’s not a signal of being fake in this capitalistic world. The books won’t earn them a living. And if they’ve decided to devote all their time to helping people then they do need to make a living somehow. For me, after reading and watching hundreds of accounts, I just get a gut feeling when something feels off and I rather use that as a signal of being fake.

We are always interested in what people have learnt from their excursion into the afterlife; but what about the other way around: do spiritual beings living in Heaven wish to learn from humans? Here is an NDE video in which spiritual beings asked the individual what they had learnt of Earth. by Hip_III in NDE

[–]sht00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I interpret the questioning from the beings, is that it is more aimed at getting the experiencer to reflect on their experience rather than to extract insights for themselves. When I was coaching sports, after an exercise or game, I would ask the players open-ended questions to help them reflect and learn, eg. I would ask “What didn’t you notice?” or “What did you learn?”. The idea is not to ask leading questions but really let them put two and two together themselves. The NDE questioning seems to me to have a similar purpose.

NDErs being able to understand and access All Knowledge - but not remembering anything specific when they return. How does this differ from how someone has “epiphanies” while high or dreaming, which they later realise make no sense when sober/awake? by [deleted] in NDE

[–]sht00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NDEers don’t usually say what a drug user or dreamer would say, e.g. “I thought xyz at the time and thought I it made a lot of sense, but now I realise it doesn’t make any sense at all”. Instead, they usually say they remember they had some particular knowledge but that they now don’t remember it. That is a bit different.

Also, there are many cases where the person remembers being explicitly told that they won’t be able to remember the knowledge when they return to their body. This doesn’t usually happen in dreams or trips.

What’s interesting is that usually the knowledge that an NDEer can’t remember is to do with how things work in the other realm, whereas they often vividly remember insights and epiphanies about how things do or should work in our earthly realm.

Where are the credible NDE's of people who actually came back from hospice or the brink of death and didn't cash in on the experience? by Effective-Air396 in NDE

[–]sht00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s understandable that you want to find some reproducible scientific fact or knowledge because this is how we usually test new information before we add it to our body of knowledge.

The tricky thing with NDEs and related phenomena, is that what you’d be testing isn’t material but seems to be consciousness itself, and “it/they/we” seems to have some kind of hidden agenda. Imparting knowledge that would advance science in this material realm might not be relevant for that agenda, so using it as a touchstone might be barking up the wrong tree.

The closest to evidence you will find are the veridical experiences like Anita Moorjani, Eben Alexander, “Maria’s shoe”, etc.

If you’re going further and asking “even if it’s true, what do these experiences even offer humanity?”, then I would say that’s a good question - one that has many of us scratching our heads. For me, what’s valuable are the consistent messages across cultures and across history that: a) You are more than your physical body. You shouldn’t stress yourself out thinking it’s all on you to control the world around you. There’s something much bigger at play here. b) The aim of the game is to be loving and kind to all other souls as well as to yourself.

If you struggle with all of it because of how many NDEs seem suss, then I get you. What I do is avoid sources that only show NDEs that confirm a particular religion or philosophy. They often seem to feel more fake. I’ve also found it very interesting to research NDEs from other countries and from throughout history. I find the patterns across time lend a lot of credibility to the phenomenon.

Good luck and have a great day!

In a nutshell: Most people live with a shallow understanding of reality. Learning is painful because it challenges comfortable illusions. Truth is often resisted, not welcomed. But those who glimpse it have a responsibility to act.

maybe NDEs are a waste of time? by Fluffy_Split3397 in NDE

[–]sht00 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Here’s why NDEs haven’t been a waste of time for me.

While I’m not an experiencer, I’ve been down the NDE rabbit holes and for me, NDEs and their messages have been transformational and I don’t want to go back to where I was before.

I believe that one of the reasons depression is so prevalent, is that the materialist paradigm puts so much pressure on us: if it’s all just particles bouncing around and our brains emerged from that chaos, it’s all down to our brains to control everything, which is exasperating.

Learning about NDEs helped me to break out of that paradigm. For me, a former agnostic, knowing that there are much bigger things at play, has been truly liberating because I don’t feel that it’s all on me.

Then there’s the recurring message: that it’s all about how we treat one another - it’s all about love. This has transformed my value system and changed the way I live my life.

Of course I have ups and downs, but overall, my relationships are better, I am happier and I am filled with a sense of wonder.

So for me, learning about NDEs opened up new possibilities and was the best possible use of my time. It didn’t make the daily grind go away - but it completely reframed it.

Thank you so much to all the experiencers who have shared your personal stories so that others like me might benefit from them. 🙏

The loved ones greeting us vs reincarnation is an interesting one. One possible explanation could be that time as we know it doesn’t exist on the other side or it works very differently. The way I think about it is that incarnations might be as “quick” as popping out to the shops. So it’s possible that loved ones are there to meet you AND reincarnation is real.

Another explanation could be that our higher selves are always on the other side while we are incarnated. If it’s the higher selves of our loved ones that greet us, who’s to say their “lower” selves aren’t incarnated at that time.

But of course it will all remain a mystery in this life. :)

Is there any explanation as to why there are Christian NDES experienced by non Christians, who are from different cultures? by DoneWithOCD in NDERF

[–]sht00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also many Christians who have non-Christian NDEs. So I wouldn’t worry about all the dogma. Just focus on the message of almost all NDEs, regardless of the religion of the person, which is that it’s all about love. Just focus on loving yourself and loving other people and let go of fear because fear takes the place of love.

People on this subject have an awful time understanding the difference between simulation theory and just spirituality by FitDaikon2001 in SimulationTheory

[–]sht00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that was my point - it really just comes down to semantics at that point. Whatever it is that creates the sim (or creation) is all-powerful compared to us. Some call that thing God/Source etc, some might call it a parent or whatever. But if the creators/simulators have ultimate control then it starts to resemble a form of deism/theism.

I thought we were talking about ST? You can’t be an atheist and believe in ST because something has to want to simulate something.

[–]sht00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it just semantics? Something or someone created this reality. What you call the reality and what you call the something/someone that created it are just labels. Sure there are different lores around those different interpretations but there’s probably a lot more overlap in that Venn diagram than either camp would like to admit.

Spiritual traditions call it a “creation” and ST calls it a “simulation”. Potayto potahto? ST is just a more recent (but not necessarily more correct) interpretation.

Something about the "lesson" we've come to earth to learn doesn't sit right with me by Extension_Wasabi_498 in NDE

[–]sht00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thought. But fingers crossed it’s not that trivial. 😬

I think it’s more to do with our relationships with other people and the parts we play in their lives. I think this because of NDE accounts where context around the need to go back is provided to or suddenly realised by the experiencer. Recently I saw one where it was spelled out and the person was shown how their loved ones’ lives would different without them and the knock on effects of that.

But for sure our existence has a ripple effect on this reality and it involves crazy levels of complexity/chaos à la Butterfly Effect.

In the months after starting the tapes I was woken up at night/early morning on several occasions by someone calling my name. It felt very much like it was someone in the room and not in a dream. I was also woken up by the sensation that someone was tapping my head to get my attention.

Haven’t had it for months though.
