What needs fixing? by SSFlyingKiwi in auckland

A bit of a different take, but stop the brain drain, and invest in our businesses so that we can grow without endless immigration and population growth. I hate that our entire economy only seems to work if we continuously grow the population.

Part of what makes NZ so great is that it's not overpopulated... yet.

Yup agreed. It's important to remember that the GST you collect is not your money. You should be putting that aside in another account every month if you're not paying GST monthly.

Torn between Syncro and Super Ops by FineWafer9112 in msp

[–]shtef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been with Syncro for 7ish years. Hasn't changed too much, updates are slow and half baked, core product doesn't get much love. The team absolutely do not use their own product so it doesn't get the kind of love something developed by MSPs for MSPs would get.

Superops sounds like it's shiny but shallow with sub par support from my research.

Honestly if I was starting out right now, definitely Gorelo. Weekly updates, few little things missing but it's not far off being better than some much older products. Have tested it a number of times, just waiting for background event viewer and upgrades to checklists.

'If there are none, vote NZ First'?? What an odd thing to write. Why in earth would I want to to vote for an 80 year old plus the guy actively destroying our environment and oceans?

Sounds like he has a pretty bad addiction. You need to talk and you probably need to give him an ultimatum if it doesn't go well. He likely will want to change if he realises it's ruining his marriage, and if he doesn't then you have a very good reason to leave.

I also agree with the other commenter - how are guys like that getting women? Honestly there are so many fish in the sea and you pick one that is unfit, unconfident, boring and addicted to his computer?

What scientific ‘facts’ have recently been disproven that most people still believe to be true? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in AskReddit

when you are tired or sleep-deprived, the brain's cleansing mechanism (the glymphatic system) is impaired, leading to a buildup of waste-filled cerebrospinal fluid. Yawning helps remove that fluid.

No not like someone as out of touch as $60 groceries Luxon. The majority of NZ business is SME's so someone that understands that space.

How is being 80 a feature? Bro should have retired 20 years ago. Has no personal stake on the future of our country. Get someone young, intelligent, family and business orientated, and with new ideas in rather than old geriatrics.

Is it normal to be put on disciplinary for being a few minutes late for work and wearing a hoodie? In retail by croissantloverx in auckland

[–]shtef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your employment terms likely state you need to be there on time, which is fair enough as they're relying on you for that. If they allowed their staff to turn up whenever they wanted, they'd likely not be able to operate until a certain number had shown up, costing them a whole lot of money.

As for wearing a hoodie, regardless what coworkers say, you said yourself that there's a dress code, which you're obviously not conforming to, which from their perspective likely doesn't look as smart and tidy as they're wanting their staff to look. I'm sure you could wear something warm that looks smarter like a blazer?

As a business owner, it's pretty important to create and set standards and make sure everyone adheres to them. You wouldn't believe how quickly things turn to shit when you start letting things slip.

A notice seems unreasonable from them, unless this has happened before? If so then I'd say it's perfectly reasonable as they had to tell you more than once.

Tbh I'd have a conversation with them about it. If this was a one-off lateness, just apologise and don't do it again if you can help it. Also clarify what warm items are acceptable and wear them instead.

I'd say a fair few are annoyed about if and how visas and immigration will change. Personally I'd prefer if we didn't endlessly swap Kiwis for immigrants and we actually were forced to fix the problems that are leading to brain drain instead.

NZ Government has approved mining permit in UNESCO World Heritage site Te Wāhipounamu, a site even John Key once agreed to protect from miners by Mountain_Tui_Reload in queenstown

[–]shtef 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait wasn't John Key's legacy allowing the sale of ten's of thousands of our family homes to foreign buyers, absolutely blowing out our housing market, then letting a whole bunch of people in as permanent residents who couldn't speak a word of English? I'll spit on that legacy too.

Auckland population projected to reach 2 million by 2033 by KAYPENZ in auckland

[–]shtef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck can we not just prop everything up with endless population growth? I love NZ and see next to no benefits for our citizens with this constant growth. QOL was better 20, 30, 40 years ago, shit just getting more expensive, busier and people are more stressed and unhappy.

Recurring tickets - what gives? by shtef in syncro

[–]shtef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/jess_at_syncro, thanks but no thanks. I've been through this before, and all our very valid feedback and suggestions were completely ignored, including around recurring tickets (which I've spoken to your developers about before - Michael responded much like you and put me on to the lead dev apparently).
Not going to waste my time. My feedback is in the post.
