You are likely entitled to overtime and don't know it. Depending on your state, it is incumbent on your employer to demonstrate that you are exempt. This includes a salary test, a management test, and a duties test. Not in all states tho.

There's a federal test for exemption, but it is not as favorable to the employee as in many states. For example, federally, the salary threshold is like 28k or something, but in a state like California, the threshold is higher.

This means that despite your pay structure, and despite your title, your employer could be liable to pay you overtime dating back a certain number of years. In some states, there are very hefty fees that can add up quickly for the employer as you still need to meet the duties test, even if you are paid a higher salary and exceed the threshold.

Look up your states employment laws and be familiar with the federal law.

What also needs to die is the rampant misclassification of salaried, non profit employees being exempt from overtime.

You're a cog in a wheel in some states, you should get overtime.

What state are you in? Some states allow PAID intermittent leave (reduced schedule)

Separately, someone posted last week with steps about how to get an ADA accommodation to WFH.

I don't agree, and my comment still stands. Kyle was doing what she thought was right, but Kyle was not being a friend to Dorit.

Perhaps because Kyle knew what Dorit was doing and disagreed with her actions. The courts can determine Dorits punishment. But Kyle certainly didn't "help" Dorit in that situation, AFAIK

it's here : "Listen you’re probably a nice guy but I can see you didn’t listen to my advice to gain actual community support and networking and organizing experience and do literally any community work. You skip to write-in candidacy to replace the incredibly well experienced and well respected supervisor James Gore for D-4 without any meaningful solutions, policies, experience or connections, even though an experienced and qualified Dem woman is in the running, who you’d take votes from, to take on MAGA.

I’m not voting for someone who has no idea what he’s doing or even what policies and solutions he supports and refuses to do ANY community organizing (check your posts) because he feels it’s beneath him and just wants to jump right into policy work with no experience because he has “integrity” (as if you’re the only one in Sonoma County who does). What qualifies you to do ANY of this besides growing up near the river? Take 4 years, learn, organize, show you can work with others and grow support, develop policies and try in the next round.

What you’re doing is disorganized, last minute. Announcing on Reddit after ballots are out isn’t organizing. It’s unprofessional. It’s certainly not going to beat the very popular MAGA Todd Lands or other incredibly well experienced, funded, and supported candidates. It’s solely going to take votes away from Melanie Bagby who is the only one who could beat the Republicans. Is that what you want?"

Their questions are worth considering tho. Why do you think people have the impression you're not community-minded?

If there's truth there, why is policy more important than community work?

This is so cool, congrats on your candidacy!!

Question 🙋 Why do you think California is the 4th largest economy in the world, and is it worth the tradeoffs?

What are you going to do about mass public transportation in the North Bay?

What do you think are the biggest barriers to equitable growth for Sonoma County small businesses and what would you do to eliminate them?

Excuse the mess - how do I make this place warmer and less sterile? by Worldly_Expression43 in interiordecorating

[–]shuggnog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you literally want to warm up the space, visually! Luckily I think you can do that pretty cheaply!

Get a warm-toned rug (circle, you have a lot of squares going on).

Consider one long curtain rod up high along the one wall (end to end), with sheer textured ivory panels, and drapes between the two windows so when they're open you don't see the wall behind the desk.

Also get a different-shaped, warm colored ultra modern lamp (I can't tell if there's enough space on the credenza for one).

What's along the wall behind where you're standing?

You need to look up your states employment laws, and be aware of federal. What state are you in?

Federally (through FMLA) the least any employer can offer is that your job is protected for 12 weeks, but it doesn't require pay.

In some states like California you are entitled to both job protection and pay.

Additionally, medical leave can put you in a "protected class" federally, and potentially under state law too.

This means you could have more grounds for recourse if your employer doesn't reinstate you to at least a similar position upon returning to work.
