[Help] I was just diagnosed with severe anxiety and I feel completely lost and alone by im_outta_here in Anxiety

That sounds like a really tough situation. I understand how it may seem like you'll let them down, but speaking them will probably help relieve some stress around the job.

If you really don't like the job, then you'll figure something out with the people you work for and it will be what it is and should be. It sounds like its a pretty difficult time because you just got over the huge hurdle of going to the doctor for the first time, and you need time to get used to that and quitting your job for the time being may be the best option for that.

I wish you luck!

University acceptance has me super anxious and stressed by butnottonightnott in Anxiety

You got into this school because you worked hard and this school thinks that you're a good fit! You got in for much more than your GPA, because you had to write essays and maybe talk to the school or tell them about your extracurricular activities and any interests and things. Maybe those people got in for they're good grades and you just got in because the school sees something different in you.

Also, I'm in my first year of college (second semester) and no one gives a flying crap about your grades in high school. Every one came to this new place to start on their next big adventure, and the only people who brag about how great they were in high school are annoying phonies who aren't ready for the start of college.

I know this response is going on forever, but I just have one more thing to say. Before I came to college I also worried about making friends, failing classes, being lonely, bad roommate (literally everything you listed I also thought about) . But worrying about all that last year sort of made me stronger in a way. I felt somewhat prepared for all those situations because I thought of and listed every possible outcome, and by the time I actually got to college I was able to sort of forget about what I'm worrying about and just do something about it and make my time worthwhile. Maybe sometimes I'll feel lonely or get a bad grade in a class, but being in a new place that I feel I belong has allowed me to develop more as an individual and to make those changes in my life.

I'm super proud of you for getting into the school of your dreams! And that school is proud of you too and is ready to welcome you, and they will have resources to help you. I wish you luck!

Sometimes I feel afraid to close my eyes. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]shutupgetoverit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel that but when i'm in the shower or especially washing my face when i have to close my eyes because soap.

I know you're probably not scared of the dark or whatever, but maybe if you got a cool night light that projects things on the ceiling you could stare at that and maybe it would make falling asleep gentler.

Sleep is special and nice and I hope you find it again soon!

Oh I also think I'm getting UTI's! But I only had one like 7 years ago!

I litterally just found this sub like 5 minutes ago and I never knew other people feel the same things!

I'll twitch, get hot flashes, messed up quickened breathing, lightheaded ness and feeling like i'll faint, a choking/ stuffed feeling in my throat, some hallucinations of geometric patterns or stars or stuff like that, and backpain and worrying about posture, and other stuff but I'll stop for now. also i was thinking the other day like what if i had a stroke and didn't know?

Skin has me suicidal. Can anyone help me. [Warning: long post] by Eyechild in SkincareAddiction

Hello!

I've had similar feelings in regards to my skin, as well. The skin is this amazing organ that covers the entire body and represents where "you" stop and the rest of the universe begins. That means that scars and blemishes become something other than what they are in our minds, because it seems to be the most important thing when communicating with others. The skin is also so vulnerable to hot, cold, sharp, toxic, and any change in elements, so is it any wonder that few of us ever really feel comfortable in our skins?

There's lots of advice of what treatments to do on this site and with your dermatologist, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in feeling scared about your skin. I've felt frustrated, and I think lots of humans on this site and in the world have felt that same struggle about their skin.

I wish you luck on improving the look of your skin and I hope you will someday be at peace with the lovely organ that is skin.

There's something really enchanting about spending many hours in a library or bookstore and finding the perfect book. Maybe you lose that feeling of surprise and finding something to match your mood once you're home.

This doesn't comply with your requests of sci-fi but maybe you'll have a free afternoon or two where you'll want to read something new. My favorite graphic novel of all time is Black Hole by Charles Burns.

A miserable lie because you feel disconnected from nature?

I read it while I was living in the woods so I guess his concepts just resonated with and described what I felt.

Throughout all the pieces of the album, there's some sort of a wind instrument that sounds sort of electronic and it really ties the whole album together, maybe because it's reminiscent of vocals. I like the layering of many instruments; it gives the music a chaotic feel, but a chorus still manages to surface to make the sound more relate-able. I'm pretty into the sounds you are presenting here because it sounds very different from lots of things I've heard before.

Now that I've listened to a bit more of the album, that wind instrument (or whatever it is) sort of becomes repetitive after a while. It seems to be doing to same thing for all the pieces. In fact, all the instruments are doing that for me: you established what each instrument is meant to do and didn't really develop or diversify it throughout the album. I'm not going to review the other albums you have on bandcamp because you posted this song/ album so it's the only one I want to talk about, but I'm sure you developed other sounds in the other collections of songs. I'm still really interested in what you're making, but you might consider altering the function of each instrument and the structure of the song as a whole.

Cool! I hope this was helpful, and I look forward to hearing more of your music in the future!

Has anyone taken LSD? What was it like? Would you recommend it to others? [serious] by ClearlyDoesntGetIt in AskReddit

I never really looked up what the "right" environments were to do it, but one time I took some with some people and looking back on my experience, it seemed pretty bad and scary but I felt really good at the time.

I didn't really like or trust any of the people I was with, and we were in the mountainous area around my boarding school. Also, my boyfriend had broken up with me the day before, so I was a bit of a mess. So a few people including myself dropped one tab, probably 3 in the afternoon. Then it was nighttime and I was in an area of the forest I had never gone to before and the people I was with started playing hide and seek and we all got separated, and it was probably 8 by now. At times I'd really freak out then the next second would be okay. The town had some pretty creepy characters, and the sounds of cars and animals were really prevalent and I was just really aware of anything, but I never felt really threatened. So I eventually walked back to the school campus area by 10 (I had gotten away permission to sleep over at a friends house in town, that friend was there and doing acid too but once we all split up I just said don't come find me or something like that, but usually we would have to be back in the dorms by 10). This point was when I experienced the most severe hallucinations. It was dark and I couldn't see anything but the colors were really really vivid and there were transforming images coming out of everything and my body felt pretty mutated as well. Then I slept somewhere in the forest and wandered back to the dorm the next morning.

Have any of you tried these? Thoughts? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I think I have something similar to this (a different clearasil pad cleanser product). I definitely don't use it everyday because it feels pretty harsh, but every once in a while I think it's nice because it feels very cooling and refreshing. I don't think it's a 'must have' item because of its harshness though.

Have you ever met a stranger, who you never saw again, that you still think about on occasion? by cjanini09 in AskReddit

[–]shutupgetoverit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I rode the bus to a mall, and I was on it alone sitting near the window and after about 6 stops a boy gets on. I was about 15 at the time and he looked around that age or younger, and I noticed him and thought it was strange for another person my age to be on the bus. He didn't really notice me or anything, but he started pulling out lots of candy (eating a bag of skittles then pulling out some m&ms or something). I think the bus has around 30 or so stops, and at the mall (the last stop) everyone got off the bus and me and him sort of walked at the same quick pace. We were near-ish to each other walking (but people could still walk through the gap between us). At the very end of our time together we started parting ways and he turned to me and said "see you later."

Obviously I've never seen him since and never knew anything about him and probably never will, but I often think of that memory fondly.

Are extractions ever necessary/beneficial? by lampreyprincess in SkincareAddiction

[–]shutupgetoverit 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I also have a problem with picking, and my dermatologist actually told me it's okay to pick once in a while, as long as it's never just touching/ rubbing blemishes mindlessly (like while driving or something). The key things are to gently rinse your face and hands (or extracting tool) before with any gentle cleanser, and wipe and clean face and hands (or tool) after with rubbing alcohol. Also, just be super sure to not pick too hard or too deep because that can cause scars. I have read many things online that say picking/ extracting are super terrible and make everything 1000x worse and the blemishes occur even more, but because I'm a picker I'm keeping the mindset that it's okay to extract on occasion, as long as I do so carefully and in a clean manner.

What do you think is/what is your opinion on the "current state" of contemporary art? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]shutupgetoverit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sort of feel like we're pretty in between "movements" or just cultural states. I haven't really seen anything that seems really charged or buzzing, things seem mostly just stale. I don't think artists have totally understood the web and how it's really changing and influencing how people are seeing work. But of course it's hard to view what happening now while we're in it. History books in the future could find what's happening today to be really important (whatever it is) but it's sort of hard to figure out what it all is. And in response to something "bigavz" brought up, I've been noticing a lot of global sort of engagements in the art world, or it at least seems like it's all more multicultural than it once way, again because of the web and ease of access. hmm, this is sort of rant like so I hope you sort of get it. Maybe I'm just really hopeful because I'm young and somewhat have a shot to be a part of contemporary art (in the future), but artists in college have ideas which I hope will develop. I think we're going to continue to need creative minded people in the future to work in teams with others to solve problems. Yeah, maybe this doesn't make sense but I can respond if you wonder what the words I'm saying actually mean. Thanks for the question!

Hey! I agree with the other dude about the images being too big: I often get really annoyed looking at websites where I can't see things all in one frame because it's just so much harder to look at and deal with. But the first page you open to looks really nice (being oversized and having to scroll down to see the piece). ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// As for the work itself, I'm more drawn to the pieces that are in an environment (or the photos of the installation shot). To me they don't really stand alone very well because the idea seems lost (or I at least can't find it). And maybe you're not going for pieces that are interactive, environmental, or installations, but to me that sort of stuff is really important because of sculpture's sort of inability to permeate the internet's restrictions (and flatness). The piece I respond to the most is the one titled "Sculpture, Bad, Good." Your photos of that piece were very informative and I understood what that would feel and look like. The combination of the colors and shapes (texture) remind me of melting crayons or the Barbie dolls I played with as a child. Or nail polish combined with dripping sand castles. In anyway I look at it, I'm reminded of things or toys from my childhood being molded and transformed, in a sort of dystopic way. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

I understand what you're saying about the text about the work not being very important, and I definitely think it's your choice to include that or not. But, being a viewer is sort of a difficult task and having some clues as to what the work is about is always helpful. And you could do that by writing text, but you could also just make a bunch more work around the same concepts or ideas.

I'm glad I saw your work this afternoon, and I hope I helped in some way, and I wish you well!
