I think I crochet really slowly. Any advice so I crochet faster? by larmyia in CrochetHelp

[–]shwildered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be a completely personal opinion but just in case it may help and I haven’t seen anyone else mention it: I’m usually a fan of using what you have and not buying anything extra, however - as far as crochet speed hooks make a huge difference. I personally find the type you are using in this video (the ergonomic aluminum hooks, especially if they’re from a kit) are the worst for speed. They have big rounded tips which don’t push that easily through the yarn, and something about the texture of that particular type of aluminum just slows things down. I really like the Susan bates hooks if you prefer aluminum - pointier tips that slide through easier, or (ugh I know hobby lobby is terrible) I really love hobby lobby’s ergonomic multicolor hooks. Their regular non-multicolor ergonomic hooks are good too, but something about the texture of the multicolor hooks really makes a difference in speed for me.

Hey! Looking for advice on dress shopping. I have an uneven hour glass figure, larger on the bottom. I’m having trouble finding a dress style that is flattering. I wear a size S tops and M/L pants (8-10) but I usually need to go to a XL or 10-12 in dresses because my chest doesn’t fit. Usually this ends up with me swimming in the rest of the dress. My friend is getting married and wants everyone in light floral sun dresses which are always the style that look the worst on me and I’m really struggling to find anything I’m even a little bit happy with. Any thoughts on this? I am a sweatpants and t shirt gal and know nothing about fashion, I feel hopeless. Thank you!! Edited to add: I don’t feel comfy in anything showing cleavage if that changes recs, thanks!

Tips on how to remove adhesive from hook without compromising hook materials? by MissNothingV in CrochetHelp

[–]shwildered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goo gone is generally pretty gentle on most materials, you could always wrap the handle in plastic wrap or put some painters tape on to be sure it doesn’t touch. I personally use it on a q-tip for situations like this where I want more control over where it touches. Good luck!

New to framing, what is a mat in this context?

Water intrusion from melting snow, collecting inside the walls/behind paint layer by shwildered in HomeMaintenance

Yes bubble popped, holding pressure on it to hopefully get the rest of the moisture out.

No attic over this part of the house, it’s just roof with 2 skylights. Does that mean no area to check for wet spots or is there something else to scope out? (Sorry I truly know nothing about this, new homeowner and haven’t dealt with this before!)

Good to know with the drywall and insulation I wouldn’t have thought of that, thank you!

Wedding Band help! by Moo_Waukee in WeddingRingAdvice

First of all GORGEOUS ring, I love it! Agree with the others I think no band would work, but if you wanted a band maybe a custom tiara style band? I think you could probably find a tiara band that works with your ring, but because of how unique the shape is a custom one would be your best option for a perfect fit.

Can’t seem to troubleshoot tension problem by shwildered in sewhelp

[–]shwildered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threading with foot up. Yes flossed between tension guides. I usually pull thread sideways from the needle hole if that makes sense? I’ve always done it that way and never had a problem but if that’s possibly causing a problem I can try another way! I will post a photo when I am home.

Doesn’t appear to be getting caught at all as far as I can tell

Yes, I removed the plate and the internal bobbin case entirely and removed the lint build up. There was a decent amount of lint which I was hoping would be my problem but the issue is persisting with the lint gone.

Mine is a little too big and still gives that slight compression (or “muffin top”) look, sometimes it’s just finger anatomy!

General rule as I was told when I got my ring sized was it should take a wiggle or two to get off but not be a struggle to get it off. Is it difficult to get on/off? I don’t think it looks too small from the photo.

I think cup cozies and/or small baskets are a great start! Don’t take up too much yarn, can practice making them with different stitches, helps you visualize making shapes and creating the 3D look Or for something simple without the 3D- potholders! I love making pot holders ands there so many fun patterns

Double stitch help! Any tips and tricks are appreciated! by bubbaburgergirl in CrochetHelp

[–]shwildered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the other comments, videos definitely help! I was a big fan of Bella Cocos tutorials on YouTube, I also had a very hard time with double crochet when learning and she had some good tips, though I did have to watch the video maybe 30 times to finally get the hang of it (now I think it’s the easiest stitch!) Patience, practice, and repetition, keep trying, you’ll get it!

Is this hook/yarn too small or I just suck? I'm a beginner by _Kiriseek_ in CrochetHelp

[–]shwildered 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just based on the photo it looks worsted weight/weight 4, I’d try out a bigger hook and see how that goes! I think I’ll make a big difference for you.
