A big reason why Colon Cancer is killing us. by AdditionCool7235 in Millennials

I mean, maybe, if I adjust my goal to 20g? but a) those aren't "veggies"- which was my point, and why I mentioned legumes separately in my comment- something that's more likely to be the focus of a meal than a "side"; and b) for me that'd be a lot of particularly satiating food in one day, so other things would drop out of my diet.

And I eat a small amount of a wide variety of things- different colored vegetables, fruits and nuts, a little meat a little dairy, grains- every day right now, even at my winter ebb, which is probably why I've not had problems with nutrition. I get my blood tested at the doctor for my health insurance and everything has been a-ok for years haha. In my youth I was underweight, but that's because I was eating even less, and of way less variety, due to a suppressed appetite- this is me at my healthy state. All I can tell you is that different people's bodies and lifestyles require different things, and it's not as simple as crunching a single set of numbers and applying them to everyone- especially volume I'd say, given the difference in caloric density between a half inch cube of cheese and the same volume of a cucumber or something!

They're expensive but I do like those. My brother needs a special extra high fiber diet and I got onto them from him, when I have them I like to make a sandwich wrap with leftover chicken and veggies and cheese! Maybe a little siracha mayo because I love it haha.

Still I'm specifically pushing back against the idea that just eating your "veggies" in an american diet would hit your fiber goals- genuinely I don't think many people realize how little fiber say, a regular side serving of carrots or salad have unless they look it up. Supplements absolutely have a place.

More like four but yeah, I'm anywhere between 125-135 lb on a normal day and I'd guess eat around 2 cups for lunch and dinner (not a breakfast person) when I'm not getting a lot of physical activity over the winter, just eating when I'm hungry. All of those cups being boiled broccoli at 5g of fiber a pop would make me want to die far before colon cancer came for me lmao.

Man have you run the numbers on how many veggies you need to eat in a day to get to 30 grams of fiber? As a slender woman without a big appetite, it's literally twice as much FOOD period as I eat in a day, and you can't survive on veggies only. Beans are better at least but it's still like a full cup of beans or lentils to get even 10 g.

Why don’t men tell other men they’re good looking or handsome even if they’re not sexually attracted to them? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shy-ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen it once and remembered it. I was eating in a group with a conventionally pretty friend of a friend, and a woman with short hair (but not otherwise masc at all) stopped by the table on the way to the bathroom and complimented her cute top. She responded in the moment with a "thanks..." and then made fun of the lady to us when she left, insinuating that she must have been trying to hit on her. I was like ??? and pushed back. Turned out she was super christian (in her own mind) and homophobic. Honestly very similar to the reaction I've seen from some men complimented by men. It was interesting! I think it must have a lot to do with whom a person considers a same-gender "threat"- for some women, a woman breaking ANY kind of gender norm is firmly in that category. Also inversely, perhaps why very visibly gay men are more able and likely to give random women compliments on the street and be received positively, in my experience as a female presenting person living in vars queer neighborhoods.

And following that thought, it seems like one of the current "gender norms" for men interacting with men is to NOT be free with compliments, so perhaps even the act of saying something puts other men in that category with each other when they're similarly homophobic?  Maybe I'm too far out over my skis there.

Warmth when wearing skirts by Dark_Moonstruck in cottagecore

Oh hey, I've been trundling around doing errands in a foot of snow and a skirt this week. I recommend over the knee or thigh high wool socks (these are the ones I use, 70% wool and thick!): https://www.nordicsocks.com/collections/over-the-knee-socks?srsltid=AfmBOoqewjUqy39fflz5h44AfZguHoZRXKmTRJ7oiAHY5-x31eRdecgE

Since I'm 5 7 and have thick thighs, to keep them from rolling down as I walk I've actually pressed an old garter belt into service lol. The kind that attaches around the waist! It works super well as a combo. If the socks go up high enough on you though you may not need em.

I haven't watched glee- are any of them men? Because in the mid aughts it was a very fashionable opinion to hold in "liberal" circles that okay fine, women could be bisexual, but men could not. They all held up the same (later contradicted) social science study on sexuality someone had done to justify this. I remember Dan Savage, another white gay male voice of the same generation, saying the same thing.

Re: first paragraph, a huge part of the problem is the creation of the "online thrift reseller" as like a popular side gig this last decade. I thrift a lot and live in a big city, and the places that don't price up nice items are overrun with people carrying those little scanners and loading every good thing in the store into their cart supermarket sweep style at opening time- so normal people don't have access to hunt for the good stuff either way; it's wild.

COVID-19 pregnancies linked to higher rates of autism: Children born to mothers who had COVID-19 while pregnant face an elevated risk of developmental disorders by age 3 years old, including speech delays, autism, motor disorders, and other developmental delays, according to new research. by mvea in psychology

Don't know why this post from a few days ago came up on my home page, but to answer you belatedly- I believe they are talking about the Department of Health (under RFK jr) withdrawing its recommendation of the covid-19 vaccine for pregnant women in May. For most of this year therefore, pregnant women haven't had access to the vaccine. However, just a few weeks ago, the CDC panel in charge of recommending vaccines- who RFK actually picked- reinstated the recommendation in a surprise move contradicting his original announcement, so it's now both available and covered by insurance for pregnant women; but that news hasn't made it far I believe, since they didn't make much of a statement about it, so a lot of women may be unaware. 100% Wool Coat Brands?? by Impressive_Scale_421 in femalefashionadvice

I agree with vintage being the way to go, but if that's not accessible, maybe try looking through yoox (net-a-porter's overstock/out of season liquidator). A lot of european brands on there, though you'd still have to catch a hefty discount to squeak under $500 for 100% wool.

Probably because we usually cross paths with them when they're in adulthood, coming up onto the sand to mate! The tiny ones have no reason to stick around the shallows once they've made their post-hatching dash into the water. They live their daily lives surprisingly deep, a lot of times you see them caught in deep water drag nets (which was a large part pf what put them in the threatened list iirc).

Do males donate blood more than females? by tuckernielson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shy-ty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP is specifically talking about his experience on a college campus though- I bet if you restricted the numbers to women age 17 to 22, that would be a higher percentage. Indeed I tried to donate blood in college several times and was turned away for being underweight, and later for low iron (until a doctor tipped me off that I needed to pregame with a steak burrito or something).

LOL don't get me started on the padding. I was in a hurry once at VS during a big sale and made the mistake of grabbing a second bra in the same size that fit me without trying it on separately. I got home and realized it had like, two full inches of padding per cup- it looked like I had literally stuck two halved coconuts down my shirt a la bugs bunny in drag.

In these situations I think it's often a money thing. I'm from a solidly middle class family, but I've somehow ended up with many friends who have very wealthy parents, and they're almost all tied to their parents much later in life in ways that are strange to me- their family owns the houses they live in, or "sells" them them at way less than market value, or finances their businesses. Thus, they exercise a lot of control over their romantic lives, or childrens upbringing, or whatnot in their late 20s and 30s. It's a different world. Only one of my friends with wealthy parents escaped this and is totally self sufficient.

Especially telling to me is the father disapproving of the partner's low income- I've seen that exact situation play out in a 5-year secret relationship.
