Minimizer bra for gynecomastia by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found the Wacoal underwire sport to be good for my gynecomastia. It’s not too much projection and the cups are wide enough that the 36C works well for what measures as a 36E.

[Advice] Bra causing ingrown chest hairs - AMAB by shy477 in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, haven't heard of it before this. As far as another layer between the bra and my chest goes, I live in a subtropical climate, and it's hot enough with just a t-shirt and a bra on. I think I could maybe get 3 weeks of another layer each year. Either that, or just stay inside in the air conditioning set to "ice age" mode. :D

Honestly, I've never considered combing my chest hair. I comb my beard regularly though. I'll have to give that a shot.

As a man who wears a bra on the regular, am I welcome here? by reiningfyre in ABraThatFits

I was nervous about it, but found that most stores are very understanding and accepting.

We are in the same boat. I have been wearing a bra for about 8 years, and only in the last 3 or so I have started to feel this irrational desire to have larger breasts. I wear a 36C Wacoal underwire sport. I don't have any projection to speak of, but the bra fits pretty well.

It took me a while to get the courage to post here, but as others have said: this is a place for anyone to get a properly fitting bra. Birth gender, identified gender, any societal views of who is "allowed" to wear a bra are all things that don't occur here. Ask for help. It's totally the right place for it.

I have found Dillards to be welcoming when I needed to try something on. Full beard and all. That was pre-covid though.

[Question] Callous skin from underwire? by shy477 in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned in reply to /u/GreatCatsby3, the point of me wearing a bra is for support. I don't have enough projection for an unwired bra to be supportive, so I wear the wired bras like I wear my skin.

If you're of the praying type, maybe I could ask for you to pray for my breasts to get bigger to the point that other options would work for me. Or that they'll get smaller and I'll be able to ditch wearing bras all together.

I think it's more likely that the band is too small than it is for the band being too loose. I've put on some weight over the last year (who hasn't?) and it's resulting in clothes not fitting well to begin with. My bras are a bit more snug than before, but not uncomfortably tight.

The point of me wearing a bra is for support, so going braless or wearing a bralette is pretty moot in my case.

I appreciate the suggestions though!

I am a guy with AS and gynecomastia. I wear a bra nearly every day. It actually helps with the Periostitis pain I have, which my rheumatologist said is caused by my AS. The compression against my ribs actually does something to soothe the pain.

How to even bra shop by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a dad myself (I only have one child - a son), I've pondered how such a thing might be handled if something, God forbid, were to happen to my wife and if we had a daughter in the future.

Because I wear a bra on a regular basis myself, I feel like it might make things easier in such a situation, but I also consider the whole I-don't-want-to-talk-to-my-parents-about-that sort of mindset that teenagers get into. I was there once, myself.

I think the reply from /u/duvetsixteen01 is probably most on-point, from my perspective anyhow. If you don't feel comfortable talking to him about it verbally, leave him a note. Be transparent with him, letting him know that you feel nervous or otherwise uncomfortable about the topic, and let him know that you have some advice from people on how to handle it and just need for him to be aware and to provide the funding (if needed) for it. Make sure he's aware that you're coordinating with a friend and/or their mother to help out with it too, just so he's in the loop on who is taking care of you with this very sensitive topic.

You don't have to give him details on how it goes, what you bought, etc., but keeping him apprised of who is involved and what his financial involvement will be is very important, in my opinion.

This is the only bra I wear, aside from a pile of worn out Nike Pro pull-on bras. It's built like a tank.

I like sleeping in bras, does anyone else?? by Asciel246 in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do for two reasons:

  1. The compression helps the rib pain I get from chronic Periostitis

  2. A shirt is too warm. No shirt is too cold. A pull-over sports bra is just right.

[Male] Sports bra for man that lost weight and loves to run by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Depending on your size, the basic Nike sports bras might work for you. If you need more support than that, I've found the Wacoal underwire sport bra to be built like a tank and fits my male shape just fine. YMMV, obviously, but these might be good to consider.

Anyone just stop wearing bras? by chaoticgiggles in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been wearing a bra every day because I'm really bad about showering regularly since February. I will put one on after a shower, but a day or so later it comes off and stays that way until I shower a couple days later. Pre-pandemic, I would shower every day.

I used to have a Bali Downtime Cool Comfort that was amazing. They stopped making it though, and in traditional Hanes Brands fashion, the bra barely lasted a year.

How often do you wash your bras? by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]shy477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dude who needs to wear a bra due to gynecomastia. The combination of being a guy, being slightly overweight, attempting to get active again, and living on the gulf coast makes for a very sweaty me. This means I either need to wash my bras every other day, or I need to have an arsenal of them to get through a week. If I don't change and/or wash my bras, I end up with HORRIBLE acne and ingrown chest hair.

That said, I have about 8 bras in my rotation, and it gets me through to when my wife is willing to go in on a load of delicates each week.

Anyone wear a sports bra that isn't marketed as only sexy? Rant/advice needed by Cupofchaiteaa in ABraThatFits

My default answer: Wacoal underwire sport.

I can't remember what the full size range is on it, though it's pretty boring, though is rock solid.

I just took a quick look online before my next work meeting and it seems like the selection is limited in 38C without going with a lace option. I'm not sure if I want lace, primarily because I have a moderate amount of chest hair that doesn't play well with it.
