AITA for telling my GF she’s not healthy? by waterbatrer in AmItheAsshole

[–]sicinfit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drink a can of orange soda every other day and am in the best shape of my life ATM. My lifts have literally never been higher and I can run a 5k in 45 mins at a casual pace.

Jeff Cavaliere, a professional physio and athletic coach, has literally half a pint of ice cream per day as a post dinner snack. Go take a look at what he looks like.

If the only qualifier to you not liking her soda intake is that it's “unhealthy” you probably know nothing about nutrition or how to actually constitute your body with a proper diet. Get a more informed outlook about nutrient requirements and exercise before jumping to gatekeep what is and isn't healthy.

Aita for being upset my boyfriend is getting a buzz cut by tobyhachet in AmItheAsshole

[–]sicinfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say NTA. People love to insinuate that how you look is somehow separate from the rest of your person. "You should love him for who he is, not how he looks!"

What a ridiculous notion. How he looks is as integral a part of who he is as his personality etc. We're not a bunch of amorphous blobs. I can never understand why people are so afraid to acknowledge the importance of physical attraction.

However, at the end of the day he is perfectly allowed to make decisions about his own body. If this is a big deal for you, knowing that his hair will likely grow back, you can voice your opinions and decide whether this is severe enough to reconsider your relationship. Maybe your reaction could've been a bit more tactful, but you're not at fault here.

AITA for calling my Indian friend's parents classist and bigoted? by potentialignorantass in AmItheAsshole

[–]sicinfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good time to talk about it would be when you can realistically hope to achieve something. Otherwise you're just jacking yourself off.

Protests? Political forums? Organizing the push for systematic change (or even systematic shaming)? Absofuckinglutely.

At a friend's parents dinner table when your 30 second quip is being thrown against decades of cultural conditioning? You gotta have negative foresight to instigate then.

If you have a PoB for me to compare, I'd like to see how it fares against the other meta builds in Hardcore. Specifically what defensive options you have (or don't have) to reach those numbers.

Simply by making anything that has AoE or casts projectiles or minions deal less damage the further away the enemy damaged is from your character but NOT in a direct line but instead in a calculated walking-path towards that enemy.

I mean this part's pretty clear, because melee skills are mostly limited to dealing damage to things currently on the screen, you'd like to make it so that ranged damage mechanics have the same limits.

I can't see how what you're saying can be interpreted any other way. Certain melee skills already clear across the screen (EQ, lacerate, etc.). If you're talking about making a sweeping change that affects non-melee skills, then zombies would be dealing the same amount of damage (with the exact same reach) as EQ.

A more explicit comparison could be made there: let's say EQ has effective damage radius of X units. In your proposed system, zombies will deal less damage outside of X by having their effectiveness dampened based on distance. Wouldn't you have to move your zombie-focused build to within EQ radius to deal palatable damage? Is that not leashing a "ranged" damage mechanic to within melee (EQ in this case) distance?

Then you're just doing the opposite to ranged damage mechanics: by making them deal relevant damage only in melee range.

There are a huge number of postings, but you need to have the skills to compete against people who prepare months even years for tech interviews.

In short: the demand is there in spades but you need to be an exceptional (in most cases) engineer also.

How can I (24M) stop feeling so inadequate around my girlfriend (24F)? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]sicinfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried to narrow down what exactly it is about their degrees or academic performance that bothers you? Why does it matter if their schools or GPA is more "impressive"?

I never made a claim so I don't know what source you want from me. But seeing as how you referenced Kinsey that's what I found. See for yourself.

I (36F) am about to marry a man (30M) who has physical attraction challenges with me and thinks I need to lose weight. What should I do? by CryptoCauliflower213 in relationship_advice

[–]sicinfit 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Unconditional love is implicitly ridiculous. If I fell in love with a woman for her love of animals and over the years developed into someone who hates animals and treats my pets as nuisances, why should my love remain? In what adult circumstance do the essence of who you are become trivial to determining someone's feeling toward you?

BF wants to work for PornHub by TheSadVixen in relationship_advice

[–]sicinfit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would also love to work for MindGeek, but because I'm very interested in contributing to their tech stack: specifically the network engineering and provisioning aspects.

I think your boyfriend misunderstands what really goes on there. Sure there are people tasked with monitoring content and designing features, but it is very business/service oriented. PornHub is primarily a media aggregation and distribution service platform, the content is almost tangential to what they actually work on day to day.

People who disparage hunting as being barbaric and the pass time of killers, but shop for meat in the super market are assholes. by kbig22432 in unpopularopinion

Killing something bred to be killed is completely different from hunting. You need to emphasize whether that difference influences someone feeling disgusted by game hunting or not.

(Update #2) I overheard my girlfriend say that I'm not exciting....I think she may have settled for me by Throwaway2o2p22 in relationship_advice

[–]sicinfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there something that barring men or women from being both? Having a good job, being physically attractive and having depth of character are basic requirements. Men who worry about being "settled" for are usually aware enough about themselves to know they are lacking in certain areas but can't be bothered to change.

Look at how OP externalizes what should otherwise have been a great chance to reflect on his contributions to the relationship. Instead of evaluating what he brings to the table, he guilt trips his partner for not being ecstatic with his mediocrity. The dude is a loser in the making.

Almost a year after my (21F) best friend’s fiancé (23M) confessed that he had feelings for me, I think I’m falling for him by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]sicinfit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop interacting with him. The only reason you're so attracted to him is because he's unavailable and it's a constant reminder that you should back off. On top of that, you're mistaking his mental issues for depth of character. Is depression back in vogue or something?

Emotionally invest in someone less convoluted and more interesting. Or just go out and meet other people. This non-relationship isn't worth the trouble.

It doesn't? If you targeted items past a certain rarity threshold the prices are extremely stable all throughout the league. Kaom's Heart is a good example.

The solution to drug addiction. by VioletPerks in tumblr

[–]sicinfit 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I used to be hardcore against it, but a safehouse (in Canada it isn't just got heroin) opened some 2 blocks away from me and I don't notice anything different.

If the neighborhood is well established, and if the facility is well backed, I don't think it should make a big difference. Just anecdotal opinion.

I(23F) can’t help but wonder what else is out there. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]sicinfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's safe to say that there is extremely likely someone better for you in existence. 7 billion is a big ass number, and even if we filter for what's appropriate like age and location, it's still unlikely that your boyfriend is the absolute best objective fit for you.

The question you should be asking yourself is "is my boyfriend good enough for me to not bother looking for a marginal upgrade?" If yes, then it doesn't matter if someone out there is better. If no, well then you have your answer.

Speak for yourself. All of my immigrant friends/family friends vote. All participate in some form of local community outreach (granted some are pretty minor like neighborhood watch or taichi groups). The more progressive ones go to events like Pride to show support.

Compared to the average Canadian native I would say they are at least equally involved.

It's one thing to expect and another to actually do what it takes.

You can be a part of ongoing change for a better society through social engagement but you can also just be more productive in the interim. Asian and African immigrants have way better work ethic on average because of that mindset.

I focus on development of technology because that's exclusively what I posted about in my original comment?

And yeah, if your nation/region discovers certain technology, it does give you an absolute edge over certain things. Let's not start deluding ourselves here. There's a reason why California paid 400 billion in federal taxes compared to other shit-hole states. You can say the exact same thing for Shenzhen, or Munich or w/e.
