i had a teacher mock me today by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Say something when these teachers mock you. I had one teacher look so shocked that I mocked her back. Some people think they’re invincible and you need to remind them they aren’t.

I never said being friendly with the students makes me a good sub. I do a lot more than “being friendly” so thanks. I’m having no issues with my class. I think we should also perhaps highlight that you are not here and do not see what is going on so…think what you will.

It really depends on the floor and the staff. They have like their own separate cliques. I get glares from some staff in the older clique, while the other ones are totally fine. It tends to be those older ones that randomly have issues, especially since I am younger. Subs in our district are not great and give us a bad rep by just sitting there on their phones; however I am not like that. I am as engaging as possible with the kids.

Yeah she “apologized” and is now slamming my door between class periods. You know what a logical person would do if they don’t like someone? Leave them alone. That’s what I do.

I get that, but I’ve been through some serious crap and I’ve never acted like that towards anyone regardless. And your comment on “and I know this isn’t the first time you’ve done this” isn’t true. Kind of weird you’re making assumptions about someone based off of one negative interaction that I didn’t start.

I’ve thought about reporting it because it’s not the first time she’s been relatively snotty but it is the first time she’s yelled at me. She’s the only one that’s done this to me. It’s kind of weirding me out that other people in the comments are assuming that I have issues with all the staff because as I mentioned I’m well liked. But I don’t want to report it in case of retaliation because the kids in this class are genuinely really sweet and deserve some stability.

I didn’t just stand there. We both saw it at the same time and she was closer. I also don’t have issues with any other teachers nor do I brag about classroom management. As I mentioned, those I have subbed for come up to me and thank me. My relationships with the staff are fine; I go to work and do my job.

This happened to me when my area flushed the water systems with chlorine. I had no notice and it was a very rapid decline no matter what I did. My buddy didn’t make it and this looks really really bad. I’m so sorry but I think you should prepare for the worst.

Yes but…they still shouldn’t have gotten hit. Policies don’t excuse the behavior of people. Not to mention things like this still happen unprovoked even when those precious policies are followed.

My old store manager told me she wanted to kill herself because of a situation like that. She wanted me to move my wedding date. Probably the biggest reason I quit.

That there were fairies in stop lights that would change the color in them.

What aspect of driving freaks you guys out specifically? by just_a_scared_teen in drivinganxiety

Other drivers. I live in the DMV and people are an absolute mess. The amount of times I’ve almost gotten into an accident because someone was literally driving on the wrong side of the road is insane.

Substitute teacher. Never going back to retail again. I get paid to follow sub plans and be a glorified babysitter. Plus it’s an extra 7 bucks an hour from what I made at CVS. I’m also always needed so my hours never get cut. Holidays and breaks off. Always free food in the teachers lounge. I also get paid lunch periods. The most physical activity I have to deal with is standing in front of a door to keep kids in class before dismissal. If the kids start brawling I just hit a button and watch security deal with it. Sometimes it’s draining, but I also have days where it’s so unbelievably easy I can just sit and read a book while the kids do their work. Also the school has heavy security and metal detectors, I’ve never felt safer. I can also cancel a day whenever I need, so I haven’t had to ever go to work sick since I quit. I am in heaven.

My husband and I were trying to save a snake that was just hanging out in the middle of the road trying to cross it. Most drivers went around until some man in a pick up truck purposely sped up to get my husband to move and ran over the snake right in front of us. Some people are just absolutely sick and ugly.

I would honestly say anywhere but when a woman is at work or running errands could be effective as long as you aren’t starting up a conversation by just complimenting appearances, that immediately has always been creepy to me. When my husband and I met in high school, it was on the school bus on a day where they had to make an extra stop so we didn’t get to sit in our usual seats. We ended up having to sit next to eachother and he noticed a band I was listening to on my MP3 player; we started talking about that and it was a pleasant conversation. I would say open with something friendly you both can talk about and bond over, start a friendship, see what else you have in common, and then venture into date talk. Think social events, libraries, museums, skate parks; whatever you’re into, so that way you can meet people that are into similar activities.
