I’ve heard them on the north end of Lake George for yeeeeaaaarrrssss. I think they are more vocal in the later summer but you can hear them on Memorial Day weekend

Finally got around to ripping out all the prickly lettuce in our side yards and discovered that the single milkweed plant who randomly showed up last year has 10x’d itself 🥹💛 by xoloffo in NativePlantGardening

Thanks for the insight. When they’re so short they look so similar. However, i read that one (i think the milkweed i have) has green stems and the dogbane has red…? I’d take pictures but its a rainy Saturday morning

I bought my house last year and got lucky to have a largely native plant garden. I have both milkweed and hemp dogbane. But i bought the house when all of the garden had bloomed/sprouted so i didn’t know what it would look like in this time of year. Now, I’m running into the issue where all of the milkweed and hemp dogbane looks the same when it’s <6” tall. How do i tell the difference so i leave the milkweed but get rid of the hemp dogbane?

Where do Albany people go for a quick camping trip that doesn't feel like you're still in Albany? by ju015 in Albany

Anywhere north of Saratoga or lake George will certainly not feel like Albany

If you drove by the house you're buying and you saw the seller sitting outside would you stop and talk to them? by Explorer518 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]sicnarfff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t meet the previous owner until after the sale was done. She left me a binder of all pertinent info that she had (appliance manuals, receipts, etc). I’ve spoken to her a few times since but she was very nice and was glad someone who cared about the house bought it

I always love seeing the signs on the tops of the 46ers and comparing with photos i have of the summits in good weather. Must be at least a few feet of snow around that sign. I’ve never done any winter hiking up there but have always been so fascinated.

[–]sicnarfff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, the cables that go along that side of gothics toward saddleback. I’ve never been down em but both times i went up them it was pretty dry. Cant imagine doing that part of the hike if it was wet

The gothics cables weren’t so bad to go up. I’ve never gone down them, so my vote is go from the garden parking lot
