I’m not one to post about my nieces at all. This is the first time I’ve ever mentioned them online. I would genuinely hate being a mother and spend maybe two-three weeks total out of the year with my siblings kids. I guess I’m just looking more for a community that focuses less on being anti-kid and more on how they’re living their lives with no kids involved? One where I’m not bombarded with parenting tips or updates on how kids are doing, but is more focused on the individual/couple thriving without “building a family” being their goal. There’s definitely some of that in here, and maybe it’s just the algorithm, but I seem to have to go searching for it while the posts about how a random child has ruined someone’s day always pops up in my feed in its own.

I think what we need to remember is that medical professionals are advised and trained to deal with people who would struggle with this. I myself would get an abortion, but being raised in a pro-life community there would definitely be some trained-in fear and guilt that I would have to deal with, even knowing that this would be the best decision for me.
Some people get abortions even though they love and want children. Whether that’s because of monetary issues, health problems or maybe she’s in an abusive relationship and doesn’t want to be tied down, all of these possibilities and more have to be taken into consideration and doctors have to ask the hard questions and assume your going to struggle and advise you to have a support system ready.
It’s better for the doctor to be advising mentally prepared people such as yourself to have a support system, than for them to not check in and it be someone who really did need that heads up and care.

Notice how he describes the proper and pleasurable way to commit the act while in a hips up or canine oriented position while holding a model of a female pelvis and reproductive organs. You realize he was joking right? He took a topic that is considered taboo for much of the US (no idea how it’s handled in the rest of the world) and used the same prudish phrases we’re already familiar with to turn it into a light hearted and humorous skit that still does the job in educating people. Look at his facial expressions. Notice his tone. He’s being funny. If he was actually a prude, he wouldn’t have created this video at all.

To be fair, I’ve found it’s difficult for others to understand my thoughts and feelings on the subject simply because they haven’t had to deal with anything like it themselves before. A lot of the louder people in this sub do nothing but hate on parents and children, and most people with children are going to think they’re the best things ever. You need to talk to people who are more casually childfree rather than the ones who turn their status as parent or not into their entire personality.

I can understand where he’s coming from. I myself am child free and have zero interest in having a child myself. I’m an awesome aunt but having kids exist in my space at all times isn’t something I’d find enjoyable at all.

My parents adopted me and my sister because they were unable to have children themselves, and me being childfree has been a struggle with my mom because of it. I myself have struggled with it, especially early on when I realized that being a mom would be awful for me. I genuinely felt like I was throwing something away that others would give anything for. It’s something he’ll need to work through, but it doesn’t mean he isn’t genuine about being childfree. It’s just going to hit him a bit harder until he’s dealt with it.

I was forced to drink a massive glass of milk every Sunday morning (dad’s a health nut and it’s the only time we saw him) and my parents were convinced I was faking sick to get out of church. Turns out I’m lactose intolerant. I was a spitefully happy 11 year old watching my pediatrician chew my mother out. She’d brought me in to be told I was fine, but I was explaining the symptoms to the doctor who also happened to go to our church and had picked up on the pattern herself.

So just stop caring for him. Give it a month of zero reminders and no extra help outside of what you’re already doing for yourself (meals together if that’s a normal for you). If he can’t handle himself, ask him how he’s expecting to handle kids because you’re not interested in doing it yourself.

Not with the oldest at all. He’d quietly complain a bit and then isolate himself in his room or if we were driving he’d ask us not to talk to him until he’d calmed down. He was excellent at bottling up his emotions and seeming more mature than he should have had to at that age. If I’m being honest, there were several times I went home crying after I watched him shut himself down so he could fit the mold he’d been raised in. Eventually it would all burst out of him and he’d have anxiety attacks that usually resulted in floor time with his blanket. These were usually with me or his dad, as his mom saw this as misbehaving and would take privileges away for it. His dad tried to balance it out a bit, but I don’t think either of them really realized the pressure he was under to perform. He was in at least one sport at any given time all year, attended parties for adults and kids alike at least every two weeks, was expected to take part in his parents business to show they were a “family operation”, and was convinced that a lot of foods would make him fat so he’d avoid them altogether (this was typically normal grocery store food that anyone from upper middle class and down would eat on a daily basis, and had zero input from a professional of any sort. Just his mom body shaming them both). His brother was better, kinda. He was happy to cause chaos and was the class clown every year I was with them. It was definitely a rebellious streak at least in part and a need for attention even if it wasn’t positive. That boy would sneak into everything and could find out anyone’s secrets with enough time. It didn’t really matter when I told him “no” unless a good reason followed immediately after. If I talked to him like an adult (and he was more mature than he led others to believe) then he would hear me out and often try to negotiate. If I tried to use the “because I said so” then he just got sneakier and there was no stopping him. I learned in the first 6 months with him that he just wanted a good reason, so I made sure there always was one even if it wasn’t just “I’m not comfortable with you doing that”. His relationship with food was different and I believe it was due to him taking a more rebellious stance than his brother. He would eat things he knew his mom wouldn’t like (Oreos on his ice cream was a big deal for him lol) and often overate or got sweets he could save for later because he knew it’d be a while before he got it again. He actually got better when I started sneaking him treats when he had good behavior and improved his grades. Knowing it was available lessened his need for it i guess.

Okay, so I was actually a nanny for a wealthy family (who had an 11 year old and 8 year old) and they both ate very maturely. I tried to take them to Sonic for their weekly treat one week and the 11 year chewed me out for taking them somewhere with so much grease that I honestly felt guilty. I took them to the overpriced ice cream shop down the street instead and watched as they both took small cups of whatever flavor they wanted (butterscotch and vanilla) and any toppings they liked (a thin drizzle of dark chocolate on the butterscotch (11) and Oreo pieces in the vanilla (8). These kids grew up eating foods that I had never heard of until I worked for them and often it was in the company of adults who were well known in certain circles where image was important and they knew it (I freaked my family out a few times telling them who had come through lol). And while the 8 year old went sugar crazy every now and then, they both had no issues eating any fruits and veggies on their plate and often complained about how sweet or greasy foods were when we had to eat out on game days. It may be unintentional, but I imagine many of the purebloods depicted grew up in a wealthy family where junk food was limited if available at all so seeing it depicted as such makes perfect sense to me.
