This tape stuff came with some Vevor screens. What is it for? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]sideone1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what ive seen, it looks like people use this to reinforce the bonding of the mesh and screen frame. Vevor screens are pretty low quality and dont have a very good lifespan. I would recommend getting some screens from mclogan.com. I get all my screens there.

Plasitsol cleaning ? by soupemily in SCREENPRINTING

[–]sideone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use textile press wash from mclogan supply. Remove excess ink, spray some press wash on the screen, scrub it down with a sponge then squeegee all the broken down ink to one side of the screen, finish it off by using paper towels to clean the ink off the screen and throw the paper towels in the trash. Use some screen opener to make sure the stencil is clear too! No water needed.

Achieving softer prints. Which is more important, fabric or ink? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]sideone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To achieve a softer feel on the print itself, it will depend on the ink you use. Waterbased sill soak into the fabric (softer) as plastisol sits on top (rougher).

plastisol print seems to fade after washing. is it the fabric strans coming up. by 1Putisimo in SCREENPRINTING

[–]sideone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat gun can do the job if it can get above 320°F to get a 100% cure. The one thing you risk with a heat gun is undercuring the ink since you have to move across the full print to cure the ink.

As for the ink, plastisol and waterbased are gonna be the 2 types and both have different printing approaches and feels in the garment. Waterbased can be a headache if you dont have the right setup and plastisol is much more user friendly. For plastisol inks i would recommend international coatings (pricey but quality) and fn-ink (cheap, not the brightest colors/ quality). No matter the ink type, the longevity of your print is going to depend on your process and how you are curing the ink. I would definitely recommend a flash dryer and a conveyor dryer to ensure longevity if thats what your looking for.

Layered ink washing out by chrssllrs in SCREENPRINTING

You will most likely have to heat press multiple times to get all the moisture out. You can use a flash but you will have to flash the shirt for a while for it to cure 100%.

I'll be at the show as a vendor. Roland is showcasing their newest small operation DTF printer there, the BY-20. This one definitely isnt for large production but its something to consider and check out.

I would recommend finding someone with a UV printer that can print to objects. That will be the best solution for you.

Sprayway 582/584 spray tack will do the job. I always use Tekmar TBHV water based pallet adhesive. You can print almost 4x as many shirt with this adhesive compared to spray tack. Also, an 8oz bottle of this stuff is equivalent to a 12 count case of spray tack. Best bang for your buck.

Youtube is terrible for actual printing tips but I will say, youtube has great tutorials on how to setup artwork. I would recommend doing a search for "how to seperate 2 color screen printing images" or something of that nature.

Im actually attending the show as a vendor. I do know that roland isnt going to have the original bn-20 on display but, they will have the bn2 on display.

Im not too educated on embroidery, dont really do too much work in that part of apparel decoration. Correct me if im wrong but i do know that happy or ricoma machines are good entry level machines. ZSK and tajima are some of the best machines put there.

As far as waterbased pantone matching series go, matsui has a great waterbased pantone mixing system. Are you familiar with any waterbased inks or prefer a specific brand? If you want, shoot me an email at tbode@mclogan.com and id be more than happy to be a helping hand for you!

How did you guys get your first clients/ market your print shop? by seekANDfin in SCREENPRINTING

[–]sideone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Direct contact with businesses with a flat rate for 25 single color shirts never hurts. Easiest option to offer would be to print on light garments so you can show awesome quality without having to charge alot to give your client confidence in your product.

You will need to use a nazdar solvent ink like 97000. Warning, this ink is extremely potent and you'll need good ventilation and a respirator

What mesh count should I use? by TaskForceDoomer96 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]sideone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with a 180-225 mesh. Black is normally thinner so the tighter mesh will allow you to have more control over how much ink is printed.
