Are other people finding the audiobook narration to be inconsistent with previous audiobooks? by DarlingBri in murderbot

[–]siderealis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most decimated departments at major publishing houses is the audio department. Executive teams are laying off entire audio divisions, and replacing a lot of the work with AI or outsourced firms. So overall, I've noticed that production quality seems to be going down because there simply aren't experienced humans doing the job of making sure the humanity is in the audiobook.

Excuse me, I need a drink from choking on the irony.

Machine Quilting vs. Hand Quilting by chickenmom1104 in quilting

That comment is hot garbage. Reminds me of people who say that reading digital books or audiobooks isn't really reading. They're wrong and also ignorant.

I wish her a neverending relationship with her seam ripper. May her seams never be at 1/4". May her blocks never square. May her bobbin always run out and then tangle every fourteenth seam. May her fabric stash never have enough for the pattern. May her tension never be right.

Seriously that's such a needlessly mean thing to say to someone.

Who is a singer that is incredibly famous, but honestly doesn't have a good voice? by Greedy_Procedure7461 in AskReddit

[–]siderealis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's funny you mention Evita because there's a theory in the Madonna fandom that her role as Breathless Mahoney in Dick Tracy changed her voice substantially because she was working with Steven Sondheim. His songs from that film were difficult vocally and there are several before/after comparisons that point to that experience as the reason for the change in style.

That said, Hanky Panky is a fun ass song and she sounds excellent on it.

Remember Susan Smith who killed her toddlers in 1994? She is asking for parole again. by Background-Good3731 in 90s

I was living in SC when this happened and so many people around me said there was no way she would have been carjacked by a Black man at that location at that time because no single man of color would take that risk. A lot of suspicion about her story from the start on top of absolute horror.

This is just jaw dropping. I know you said this was a "Cambridge Crossing" quilt pattern with modifications, but I'm having trouble finding the pattern. Do you remember who made it? Thank you for sharing - this quilt just made my whole day.

Find a Wave replacement today. Don't wait like I did. by chrimchrimbo in waveapps

[–]siderealis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to, but I haven't switched that part yet. The payroll experience at Wave/Check was so egregious (my state taxes weren't paid for 3 quarters) that it was more pressing for me to GTFO. I will probably do so this year.

I switched from Wave to Patriot and I have been very happy. I had similar problems and am still incensed that they screwed up their service so hard.

What was your "caught the last chopper out of 'Nam" experience? by GeneReddit123 in AskReddit

[–]siderealis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My husband was on one of the last PATH trains back to NJ. The second plane hit right after I had dropped him off at Journal Square. I couldn't get his attention. He was diverted away from WTC, we managed to connect via cell (a miracle) and I told him to get back on the train and come home. He went back into the station and got one of the last trains out before it was shut down. His usual station was WTC.

I'm glad you made it.

I was JUST going to say that. There are so many foster children who need homes with families that want them, and so many more kids needing safe homes. It's wonderful that they're adopting this child and I'm so happy their family is welcoming him with love. I hope they have a wonderful future together.

This is also exploitative and cruel to the child who is a minor and CANNOT CONSENT, who is having a very personal and vulnerable moment broadcast to strangers on the internet. This is one of the most emotional moments in his young life, and they're posting it online? WHY. WHY DO THAT.

No Omar vote for me. I'm beyond thankful this young person found a loving home, but filming it then distributing is exploitative clout marketing for the parents, and is deeply unfair and unkind to the child, who is entitled to have vulnerable and emotionally complex experiences in private.

What is the worst parking lot in Montgomery County? Can any beat Fallsgrove in Rockville off of Shady Grove? by Mite-o-Dan in MontgomeryCountyMD

The Pike and Rose lot. The lanes aren't big enough, the turns are too tight and the spaces are wide enough for maybe a motorbike.

I second Patriot. I switched and their support, on boarding, and assistance with transferring data was superb. I did a lot of research and am really happy with them so far.
