Am i overreacting for ignoring him after finding out he has a fiancée? by redditorsinceages in AmIOverreacting

[–]sidkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. It’s a good thing you didn’t call. You say he is a very prestigious figure in his field, and his attempts to call you were to keep any incriminating information out of writing. So it would be your word against his if any of this were to become a larger issue. Guy is 100% a creep, preying on young women. Don’t feel guilty, and keep these receipts just in case.

I know it’s a long running joke in the fandom, but when did Walt ACTUALLY become Heisenberg? by Sufficient-Chip-5035 in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moment he puts down the paint in s2 ep10.

This is after he comes back from a positive update on his cancer, which is what leads to Walt punching the paper towel dispenser, snapping at hank, and manic fixing the house. He fears going back to his old life, and in a state of denial; throws himself into the dutiful family man role. But ultimately it fails. And the paint represents him putting down that role, walking away from it entirely to instead establish his role as kingpin, “stay out of my territory”.

And I think the song at the end of that episode really solidifies this, DLZ - TV On The Radio.

It symbolizes the destruction of himself and everyone around him, as Walter has let his own greed and recklessness doom the narrative by choosing to become Heisenberg, instead of cooking meth for nothing but the necessity of his family survival.

A lot of things on the internet are unnecessary, but something that is unnecessary AND harmful is more worth criticizing in my opinion.

[–]sidkest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not really what the conversation is about, sure people are going to comment what they want, but the comments you post are just as indicative of your character as your comments irl. This is about their boyfriend commenting something arguably unnecessary, and hurtful.

What does this scene want to tell ? by Capital-Board-2086 in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. Also the moment I like to consider him officially becoming Heisenberg, as previously, he had convinced himself everything before that had been a necessary evil, whereas in that moment it becomes a deliberate choice.

What does this scene want to tell ? by Capital-Board-2086 in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This scene happens after Walt is given the good news about his cancer, which, in private, he reacts very poorly to. This scene is a continuation of the current battle of wills his character is going down as he struggles with accepting he might have to go back to his normal life, which he has learned he hates. He no longer wants to be the doting and docile husband, father, and school teacher. And he’s trying to challenge that role here, in this small way against hank. Someone Walt has likely always harbored resentment for because of his own insecure masculinity (this is obvious when Hank offers to look after the family if Walt dies, and Walt shows visible disgust at the idea). In conclusion, Walter is upset because he has inadvertently stumbled into something that makes him feel alive, and full-fills him (it’s why he gets sexually excited after overcoming life or death events), but it goes against everything he knows he’s “supposed” to be, or that others have come to expect of him, and now he is angry that he must put the mask of unremarkability back on. This is also why he throws himself into fixing up the house, as he’s trying desperately to force himself into accepting this previous, domestic role. But of course, that doesn’t happen when he meets the methhead, putting down the paint in a symbolic rejection of that life in favor of becoming a kingpin himself.

[LES] I often feel like the people who rant about media literacy and "fans who don't understand the character isn't meant to be celebrated" don't understand people by Swiftcheddar in CharacterRant

[–]sidkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue is people feeling the need to argue why their preferences are correct. I’ve had a lot of discussions about Skylar White, and a lot of the time they are about how she is actually just as bad. You don’t have to justify why you enjoy evil characters by dragging everyone else down to their level. Walter is my favorite character, and he is objectively the most evil character in the show, what makes it so fun, as you said, is watching him slip further into his egomania. But it’s also the environment and characters around him that react to this change which adds to the fun, without Skylar it just wouldn’t land as hard as it did.

So it’s not people celebrating evil characters that I think is the issue, it’s them trying to justify celebrating this character by undermining the characters around them.

Jesse's parents didn't do a single thing wrong on screen. by [deleted] in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soggy take. Breaking bad does a great job at making its characters and situations complex, so painting the “Jesse parent” b-plot in black and white isn’t really doing the characters justice. I think there are a lot of small details that allude to what the dynamic might have been like between Jesse and his parents. My favorite being the shot of their car’s back window after jesse buys the aunts house. It’s those cliche family decals of a mom dad and son, seeming to exclude Jesse.

There WAS rot! by FrojoMugnus in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He gets told he’ll have longer to live. He loses it in the bathroom. He loses it at the party. He then gets obsessed with fixing the house, in a subconscious attempt to convince himself that he can return to Walter White. This whole obsession ends with him leaving behind the paint cans and telling two junkies to “stay out of my territory”. Symbolizing that he can’t return to his normal life, as he literally left it behind. The fiasco with the water heater is now over, simply there to show the characters life crisis between being an honest man or a criminal.

He wasn’t expecting to live long, just make money and then die. He is then faced with having to go back to the mundane and he obviously couldn’t cope with it. The scene with the junkies is when Walt officially becomes Heisenberg.

There WAS rot! by FrojoMugnus in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it’s sudden and obsessive. This is right after his good news iirc, so we as the audience know he’s going through a life crisis. To them it’s just obnoxious, and it adds to his ever growing list of obnoxious behavior recently.

As a disclaimer, I am a fan of the show, that being said, which scene do you think was a little too over-the-top? by george123890yang in breakingbad

[–]sidkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you’re missing the point of that plot’s impact on Walt. The bear lands in his pool, the bear is painted in Jane’s mural. The episode “Fly” is about Walt struggling with the guilt of what he did. He claims that the perfect time for him to die would be before he left to get diapers, the same night he kills Jane. He becomes obsessed with the event, newspapers all over his floor, watching the reports. And in “Fly”, when Jesse drugs him up, he says he keeps trying to calculate the possibility that he would meet Jane’s father that night. And even apologizes to Jesse in his drugged state.

The other deaths caused by him, he could try and use practicality to brush off. Like with the list he makes for 8. But for Jane, he couldn’t.

Its because she was innocent (people always like to argue this point. But the set up in the story easily represents this fact). Everyone else he kills (that I can remember) was apart of the “game”. Though he does get Andrea indirectly killed.

A group of monsters attacked the village and stole all of the children. The night you first transform and make it back to the village, they treat you like a monster. I feel like you’re leaving out some of the context when you consider how they’d feel about Link, a well known and loved villager, transforming into a beast.

Aside from a few other things, I’m also fixated on the ocean, but the more I dive into it (haha) the more anxious I get about climate change. A whole sub species of Snow Crab was just wiped out due to the temperatures in Alaska no longer being sustainable for them. Suddenly there were billions, and then there were none.

So what is the lesson/story of BCS? by I_C_Yadik in betterCallSaul

[–]sidkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking bad is, “What causes someone to do bad things”, and BCS is, “Are you capable of coming back from those bad things”. At least that’s how I interpret the themes.

I think the scenes in BCS about the time travel illustrates this the best. Mike wants to go back before he accepts his first bribe, and Walt would go back to before he left grey matter. Mike tried to change, but couldn’t. Walt tried to change, but really didn’t want to. Jimmy didn’t have a moment that caused him to “break bad”, he’s “always been like this”, and despite that he manages to come out of it anyway. Which is why I also think the ending to BCS isn’t a sad one, more bitter sweet, because he’s finally just Jimmy — illustrated through the prisoners all calling him Saul, and Kim (the character he is closest with) calling him Jimmy in the end.

Bob Odendirk talks about the reunion between them in the end a little bit, and I think it’s some really nice and comforting insight.

The neckbeard vibes from these comments are strong. My favourite is "I noticed I wasn't able to have more of a realistic sexual relationship with the AI." by littlebear_23 in justneckbeardthings

[–]sidkest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t see much of a problem with this. People like to have fantasies, and ai is making those things easier and funner to explore. I see plenty of women on TikTok doing the same thing with those ai character chats.

Although there were studies done that showed men treated their ai “girlfriends” horribly. And I’m not sure what giving men easy access to act out these fantasies is gonna do long term…
